Wasn't the Matt Carr incident also against Saints?
The incident I'm thinking of was Launceston 2005 when we were down by 1 point and Matty Carr pinged Aaron Hamill dead to rights holding the ball inside 30 metres of goal inside the last minute and the Ump swallowed his whistle allowing the saints to escape from that one.

It made the return fixture that year even more karmically sweeter

The one where the umpire offered the defender if he wanted Matt Carr to retake the shot at goal or accept the behind? I think so. My fuzzy recollection I see red & black so either Saints or Essendon. It wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn't another Saints debacle
No, that was very bizarre though. Even when the umpire did realise he had made a mistake he couldn't care less.
No the other one was when late in the game Carr was penalised and could have cost us the game. A holding the ball decision I think. In our forward line.

Except it's not Friday night, it would be mid-afternoon on a Friday WA time if the rumour is true, at Norwood oval.
I reckon that might be breaking point for following AFL for me - in the pecking order when all 18 teams are in the same city for magic round, they schedule our game against the shittiest team at a suburban ground when most of us are at work and school? Nah, I'll be done with it.

Rumoured Gather Round fixture (unsure if time is Adelaide time or Eastern time) :

Round 5, 2023:
Thursday night -
Adelaide v Carlton, 7:40pm, Adelaide Oval

Friday night -
Fremantle v Gold Coast, 5:10pm, Norwood Oval
Richmond v Sydney, 8:10pm, Adelaide Oval

Saturday -
Brisbane v North Melbourne, 1:10pm, Adelaide Hills
Essendon v Melbourne, 4:10pm, Adelaide Oval
Port Adelaide v Western Bulldogs, 7:50pm, Adelaide Oval

Sunday -
Geelong v West Coast, 1:10pm, Adelaide Oval
GWS v Hawthorn, 3:20pm, Norwood Oval
Collingwood v St Kilda, 4:50pm, Adelaide Oval

Called it

I thought it was round 24… I retract my earlier comment about us being Saturday prime time. We will most likely be playing Gold Coast at a primary school somewhere.

If true, pretty uninspiring round to be honest, don't have any real interest in any of these matchups.

Also, 100 percent not surprised that we'd get shafted to some random SANFL ground on a Friday afternoon lmao. This leagues a joke sometimes.

Yeah i just noticed that 3:10pm on a Friday arvo.

What an absolute disgrace.

I live in Sydney so it doesn't affect me but how on earth the AFL can justify that is incredible.

As long as Carlton get another prime time game though.

I don't care about when it is or who we play, but Norwood better be decent ground because I hate watching Tas or NT games due to the **** weather and unprotected grounds. That North v Eagles game where kicks were returning to the kicker because the wind was so strong sticks with me as does that Saints v Port ****fest last year in Darwin.

I would say its similar to Freo Oval

I mean, I'm in Brisbane and I'll still miss at least the first quarter in transit from work. I'd hate to think about how many Freo fans (or the % of Freo fans as a whole) will miss either most of the game or entirely miss it due to this scheduling.

It's disheartening to know you're that much of an afterthought to the AFL that they'll schedule a game when over half your fans can't watch it.

I have been to Norwood oval many times. It's a good suburban ground.

It's unique with those wooden grand stands on the wing and one of the goal ends.

I'm definitely going to this freos vs sun's game

So as a semi finalist last season, the times for our three released fixtures are:
  • Round 1 away on a Sunday arvo,
  • Round 3 home on a Sunday arvo,
  • Round 5 away on a Friday arvo.
The good news is though that there may be a road trip on my horizon.

The more i think about it the more of a disgrace it is for the Freo faithful in WA.

Why don't the club just release a statement FFS calling out the BS.

Its not like we get any favours anyway so shit-bagging the AFL wont affect us too much.

I'm more worried about the break between games.

Derby Sunday night, then the next round, then round five Friday afternoon. Perhaps we get a win and it goes:
Round 1 - away
Round 2 - home
Round 3 - home derby (Sunday)
Round 4 - home (Saturday)
Round 5 - Friday afternoon away

But I'm expecting us to play Saturday afternoon in Melbourne off a six day break after a derby, fly home, then a six day break flying to Adelaide.

Exhaust the squad early and we can feel that part of the fixture for months.
