I don't understand why the AFL persists with a Richmond/Carlton opening game for the season. It's never a good game.

The best game to start the season would be a Grand Final rematch, played at the winning teams home ground. Give them the ability to unfurl the flag at the beginning of their year.

The difference between the Blues and Tigers with their kids was stark. Cripps shoves 2 kids like a cop with a prisoner and *s them off as soon as they run through the banner. Tigers bring their kids up the race with players chatting to them, high five the crowd down the race, get to come to the front and run out on to the field with the players.


They're the little details that make them a good club.

They persist because bums on seats, one mob has 70k and the other mob is Carlton so the AFL go "oooh money", yet year after year after year the launch of the season is middled, uninteresting and a cripple fight. Then you have something like this where both sides did SFA but played ping pong for half a game, break happens, people get yelled at to do better and here's 5 goal (almost trebling score) v 2 goal (almost half their original score) quarter.

Long may it continue so that cricket becomes the bigger sport to take over the coverage, because the AFL certainly doesn't deserve it on effort provided thus far.

She was a Carlton fan a few weeks ago, probably doesn't even know her own name. Just happy that there was a picture on it.
