A good player won't fix a poorly run club and rarely work out because they mostly go there for cash. A good player at a good club generally works out better because they have their s**t together already.

The thing that Lyon should bring is an ability to maximise a lot of guys like Hill, Howard, Snags, Butts etc. Even Billings and Clark types should be able to maximise their talent in a stable structured environment. He might not be a magic wand but at the bare minimum the structures and systems will improve from what we've had for the last decade. That should get us the most out of what we already have.
We're very aligned on all this.
Though I'm not looking at, or even interested in who improves or doesn't make the cut.
If we want to attract the best then we must first build the appropriate house. That is what Ross is here for.

The way the AFL reacts to this is insane in my opinion.

A large majority of the players would do drugs. The bloke gets filmed in a cubicle and now he is banned for two games.

They should be condemning whoever filmed him and nothing more. Society's views on recreational drugs are absolutely bizarre.
People are so quick to want to look down on others. Ginnivan doing drugs doesn't hurt anyone. I agree, the person who filmed into the cubicle should be the one being publicly shamed. Disgraceful behaviour.

The big unspoken issue is how these can affect the integrity of the sport.

Nefarious characters can try to influence results by deliberately putting players in vulnerable positions and capturing those moments. Then trying to use that to pressure players.

The AFL is much better off to have a forgiving policy rather than a condemning one.

He’s still an idiot. It’s an illegal activity and as a public figure he should know that the outcome will be what it is. If he was a politician or police officer or a heap of other roles, he would be sacked and hard to employ again. I don’t give a shit what he does but if you gamble and lose don’t come looking for sympathy.

Have just heard there's footage about to come out showing plugger66 in a cubicle munching on a tofu salad and sipping a kombucha 😲

You don’t think you’d get the sack for being filmed as a police officer or Polly?

Fair point, but surely everyone has a right to privacy inside a toilet stall?

players should stop saying sorry, becuase they are only sorry they get caught. A little bit of honesty.

how about the Collingwood players instead say, i just wanted to try, i had it last week, but didn't get caught next time i'll do it in my own home.

Did they get filmed snorting coke though? Helped that no mainstream media would show the story as well.

Probably but it's not like he wasn't taking drugs and it was made up. Like driving home drunk, he's made a call to do something illegal and got caught out and as a public figure he's wearing the pretty mild penalty that is dished out. After 2 weeks no-one will remember anyway. The outrage seems to be stronger from the people who want to be outraged by the outrage.

Let’s not put snorting some slugs off the dunny in the same category as drink driving please.

I agree. Drink driving is INCREDIBLY selfish with how dangerous it can be to others on the road. Can easily wipe some unsuspecting person off the road
So is drug driving, to be fair…

A pro sportsperson making the decision to snort ketamine that he bought off a stranger in a public toilet is pretty much a poor life decision that has ramifications that he's just learnt the consequences of. He's taken a risk and got caught. Millenials freak out at taking any responsibility for their own actions.

Do that in Bali and he's probably getting 5 years jail. Walk through Melbourne Airport with it and he's probably looking at potential jail time here.

Why is it always coke, FFS i want to see players taking shrooms and LSD.

AFL players need to expand their drug use.

Apparently Ketamine this time. He's pioneer.
