Injury 2023 Injury report

Collingwood advises Nathan Kreuger has undergone a reconstruction on his right shoulder after injuring it at a training session prior to the holiday break.

While no firm timeline has been placed on the key forward’s return to play, it is expected Kreuger will be available for selection within the first six weeks of the 2023 AFL season.

Midfielder Finlay Macrae experienced a stress-related back issue in December last year. His load has been managed with the 20-year to resume running in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, key defender Darcy Moore has started running after a bone infection (osteomyelitis) delayed his start to pre-season.

Lol, I know this sounds harsh, but honestly, I wouldn't even bother with Krueger anymore. You can already see how this is going to end.
Good side by side mindset there

Reckon no one feels more devastated than about this than Kreuger himself. Casting him aside with a mentality of "don't even bother with him anymore" is pissweak.

Would either MaCrae or Krueger be a long term injury, the good thing about Krueger,s is that it is the other shoulder this time but hoping he is back by rd6 fills me with fear.Well at least Darcy is back running that is great news at least.

Saying Krueger will be back in the first six rounds of the season after a shoulder reconstruction sounds a bit optimistic to me.His shoulders are a huge concern, you just never know when they’re going to pop out during a game or even at training.

If the expectation of the club is that Kreuger is available within the first month and a half of the season, it's not a LTI.

It’s a long season, give Kruegs the time he needs to recover and then build confidence in mcgoos. Not in the best 22 just yet anyway, but will be handy back up when Mihochek needs a rest later in the season

Id give Krueger this year to prove himself otherwise delist. We will never go anywhere of we keep carrying injury prone players like we have over the past 10 years. Sounds harsh but you have to be to win flags.

In an alternate universe, Pat Cummins, Mitch Johnson and Brett Lee didn't survive the bigcricket injury culls and go on to have great careers.

He won’t be back within that time frame. I’m not 100% on this one, but hasn’t the LTI morphed into an inactive list? Whereby once you’re on it that’s it for the season? Which is clearly no chance of happening unless we put Shade in charge 😂

And I think him playing a final last season only worked because while did put kreuger and roughy in the inactive list, we only used 1 of those spots in the MSD, so Kreuger was able to come back as there was a spot available.

You might be right about not being back by R6. However, the MSD last year was held after R11. Provided no hiccups I can't imagine Kreuger would be out until then, so is there really much point putting him on the inactive list unless the club is enamoured by both Markov and Steene and can't make a decision?

My assumption from Jen’s reply is that if we move him to the inactive list for any reason be it MSD/ Steene/ Markov that’s it for the year because the inactive list is only for season ending injuries. Basically Kreuger’s absence won’t be freeing up a list spot because he’ll be back some time in May.

The curious aspect of the inactive list is that the SSP window shuts on Feb 15th (?) before the practice matches. I’d be pretty annoyed if I was overlooked for a list spot only for someone to go down with an ACL in late Feb…

The deadline used to be start of March I believe. I was surprised it was so soon. These trialists will have to rely on match sims to impress. The 18 v 18 would have to come soon. Basically 3 weeks a bit these two guys have to impress enough to earn a spot.

The 21-year-old re-fractured his right foot last week following a knock at training.

Dean was limited to two VFL appearances last season due to two separate injuries on the same foot.

“We are disappointed for Charlie who has had unfortunate luck with his foot over the past year,” Collingwood General Manager of Football Graham Wright said.

“While Charlie is an extremely resilient footballer, we empathise with him after being so dedicated during a lengthy rehab last season and over the summer break.

“Our program will wrap our arms around Charlie and ensure he is well supported as he recovers.”

Dean, together with the Club, will consult with a specialist before determining next steps.
