Genuine question, has Chad Wingard got anything left to offer a good side? Or more specifically a good forward line?

Turns 30 in a couple months and his stats are trending downward in a bad Hawthorn side. But at his best he was a 50+ goal small forward.

Don't get me wrong I've never liked him as a bloke. But if we could end the midfield experiment and just play him as a dangerous forward next to Rankine, and allowed Rachele and Pedlar more midfield time. Could he be a low cost/ high upside transaction for a couple years?

I’m not opposed to it, it comes down to cost for me. Hawthorn would probably demand a decent amount.

Not sure about Wingard specifically but a mature-ager to play as a small/medium forward would be a good option. Presuming Rachele, Pedlar and hopefully Rankine will spend more time in midfield in the next few years. We don't want to have to rely on Keays, Murphy, McHenry up forward.

Will Hayward after next season perhaps? I get the impression that Buddy (when he plays), Papley and to a lesser degree Heeney tend to dominate the Swans forward line. Doesn't leave a heap of opportunities for the others.

I could see him improving if he was in a team on the cusp of finals .

But port weren’t that upset to move him on. He’s a bit selfish and doesn’t seem to really buy into team culture.

He’d have to be really cheap to risk it

He’s just in the wrong bracket, if he was 2 years younger then you maybe take a punt that he’s still playing good footy when we’re really challenging but in 2-3 years where we’re hopefully right amongst it he’ll probably be done.

I doubt Rankine is going to spend a whole lot more time in the midfield as his career continues here. That seems to have fallen to Rachele.

Chayce would be an obvious target for any Tasmanian side. There isn't that many AFL standard players from Tassie around.
Agree with your new message but your previous post “basically confirms he would leave to join” the Tassie team seemed very off the mark to me. Perhaps I have somehow missed a quote but there was no direct or indirect inference in any way about him intimating he would be interested in returning home.

I think coach and player are keen for it to be 30% games time, who knows it may grow from there

Good sides have plenty of numbers that can spent time playing through the middle of the ground

I’m not sure about Wingard, but in general we should be starting to look at low-cost, possibly older impact players over the next couple of years, considering we seem to be coming into a contending window. Just to top up areas of need, fill any gaps
Agree with that. Talented players in last couple of years of career looking for a new challenge and chance for a deep finals contending side (eg an Isaac Smith, Mason Wood at Saints). normally picked off from a rebuilding team

I wouldn't personally go there. I remember thinking Hawks were getting bled dry for a guy who already started to decline massively in performance meanwhile you had guys like Kornes talking it up in the media as a match winner worth paying up for. Not sure if Kornes just trying to help extract value for Port or if his own personal bias having watched a lot of Wingard at his absolute best made him believe it. Either way performance in his final years at Port was nothing special.

Rankine has barely spent any time in the midfield in the last month. There may have been a plan to get it to 30-70%, but Rachele blossoming into a full time mid has seemingly put an end to that.

Yeah he’s a pretty complete midfield prospect. I doubt we’re in the range for him though, could be the first Tassie top 5 prospect since Kade Kolo
Probably will be guaranteed of being able to go to new Tas team if out of contract and team losing him will get a moderate compo pick

Did you watch the footage?

Hayward would cost a bomb

Very highly internally rated for his offence and pressure

Enough to be in leadership group already , Longmire absolutely loves him for his team first stuff apparently

He'll be a free agent

Good player, I think we have other holes to fix first.

Half back flanker (A grade)
Key Back
Midfielder
Ruck
I’ve always been a huge fan of Hayward and would love him but he’d cost more than we’d like

I’d be very happy with redman and our draft hand , more like ecstatic

Draft hand could get even bigger. I wouldn’t be surprised if guys like Schoenberg and McAdam either ask for a trade, or are even put on the block

Both Sloane and Tex looking like they can go another year, plus Parnell/Murray need to be upgraded to the senior list. List spots aren’t exactly going to be overwhelming. Can see us taking just two or three picks into this draft max

Hamill and/or EH to be delisted and put on the rookie list a la Moose/Seed, too

Would not surprise to see us try move up draft order but it’s not always easily done

Could see Hamill to rookie list

McAdam chance to be traded too for sure , sort of hope not too
