The question next that needs to be asked, how confident are we in keeping Rachele?

That completely shapes the Pickett scenario.

$64 question, isn't it?

From the outside, thus far, you would suggest at least in the short term, he is committed, however who knows in 4-5 years time where his life is at.

Seems to be a good bond forming amongst the young crew.

Hopefully Newchurch comes on and we won't need to worry about Pickett.

Back to focussing on good mids.
Given the training report it doesnt seem likely :(

Going by our use of first round draft picks, we should trade them for any proven quality. We're more likely to pick another player like Jones, Mchenry, Mcasey or Galluci. Draft picks are massively overrated imo.
well we took Thilthorpe with our 2020 1st and Rachele with our 2021 1st..hard to call them busts at this stage

They can be but depends on the pick. Pick 18 is different to pick one but people still group them together as a first round pick. I think a good list manager uses the draft and trades to build a list.

Should we finish bottom 6, I would love us to take our 1st to the draft but look to trade our 2024 1st with freo for Cox. I know he is under contract, but we might be able to tempt them and if we had to offer up one of this years 2nds (GC 2nd) then so be it - Cox would be a huge upgrade on Murray and fill a real need whilsyt still allowing us to snare a top 6 rated kid and a good 2nd round rated kid in what is perceived to bea very strong draft

Nick Murray has played 29 games of AFL and has done really well with that in consideration, maybe wait to see how he shapes up with another proper pre-season under his belt and game continuity before getting to excited about thinking of overpaying for Cox.

I'm a fan of Murray, and I'm happy to give him and Butts time to develop (say, a couple of years), the goal would be for at least one of them to develop more of an offensive game in that time. That said, if an opportunity to get Himmelberg (23) or Cox (24) comes up in FA, you take it

If that transpires, could be either one of Butts/Murray that is pushed out IMO. Reckon they're on pretty even footing right now

Our players are awesome as they play for the club, we couldn’t possibly consider players from other clubs as upgrades

Like you, I am pretty bullish on Murray's potential.

The post I replied to suggested possibly using a 1st and even adding a 2nd rounder for Cox...massive difference between that and waiting and taking him as a FA if he is interested.

What is the training news on Newchurch, has he turned up to training looking like Wilbur Wilson? ( In saying that, Wilbur was awesome and deadly over the first 10 metres. I can remember a pre season drill for the Dogs back in the early to mid 80s was to run from Elizabeth Oval to where I was playing tennis. Platten won by a good ten minutes, then came the next pack.

Wilbur was last by an hour, pretty sure he went "**** this" and just walked :)
