Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Yeah fair call, there's always lots of 'Óh he's a B grader' or 'We need A graders' posts. I was just saying we can't have all A graders. FWIW I think we almost have enough A grade talent on every line they're all just kids, another year of development and a couple A grade top ups if possible and we'll be right in the mix IMO.
I feel our forward line is missing a class small forward to medium. Plus a classy outside mid who can break the lines.

Losing Walters will hurt.

Yeah I think we are getting close.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Sturt isn’t offered a contract at all.

Again it isn’t what I’d do but he’s played seven games and he’s been on the list five years by seasons end. How much longer will the club continue to re-contract a player they hardly ever play? It doesn’t often happen.
3 of those years were wiped out with injury though

If he gets another injury then yes he is gone

List managers find a way and they'll get leeway from the AFL as long as they're not being too out there.
I doubt the AFL will give them concessions on this

GC were so keen to not cut anymore of their list last year that they traded away pick 7 for free, I just can't see them opening up 10 list spots to use a bunch of picks

Anyone else realise Stephen hill is only 32 recently?

There's an A grade winger that would have been deadly in our rise up the ladder, what could have been :(

I agree, but that's why I'm expecting GC to live trade as soon as the draft starts to stockpile the picks then.

I still think they will want to trade to a better pick as a priority, dealing their future first for points and hoping both that they have a super draft with their top 4 pick and then their academy as well as doing much better in 2024 so their first round pick they traded for that year isn't worth as much.

Live trading is an option for sure, will be interested with what they do with their picks from the start though, they have like 8 or 9 in the first 3 rounds i think

its possible they simply trade some into the future

We’ve actually got 36 on the Senior List not 35. And we’ve got five Category A rookies.

Expecting us to stay with the 36-5/6-2 structure next season tbh. We haven’t changed that in probably over a decade except for when the AFL reduced list sizes (we were still running with the minimum senior list before that). There’s salary cap benefits to having less on the Senior list - I think it was $80,000 per player but it’s probably more now.

We are not delisting either Treacy or Banfield so they’ll be on the senior List next year unless they’re traded. I can’t see there being too much interest in Banfield but with Treacy they’ll be interest we’ll need to see off to re-sign him.

I still don’t think it’s all that hard to delist or trade 5-6 from the Senior List tbh. There’s probably 2-3 we could delist and redraft as rookies quite comfortably imo. They’ll be plenty of room on the Rookie List next season. There’s probably even enough room for Wilson or Hamling to be one of those players we delist and redraft.

Think Henry will do his best to get traded - whether anyone wants him is another matter.

FWIW it’s not what I’d do but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Sturt delisted tbh.
It looks like we're both wrong...nuts.

Totally agree with the rest. Spot on.

That site is inaccurate usually

Edit: the inaccuracy is Schulz has been promoted back to main LY

The only inaccuracies of that site is missing that some players are on the Senior List that were I upgraded last off season.

You can’t have 35 Senior Listed players unless it’s due to something that has happened after the drafts. 36 is the minimum. For other clubs where it’s wrong there’s players that that were on the rookie list three or four years but are still listed there. That isn’t allowed under AFL rules so those players are actually on the senior List.

The AFL made exceptions to the rule that allows three years on the rookie list only. At the end of 2021 any rookie could be listed on the rookie list a fourth, in 2022 they made an exception for some Category B rookies. I can’t see them doing the same this year - it was all supposed to be lack of opportunities due to Covid wiping out the state leagues in 2020.

He said he was but wasn’t 100% sure
Yeah but that was just casual talk kind of stuff, if it had mattered and Will pressed him on it, you can tell he knew and would have said he is on it

Anyway he has to be on it as we can't have only 35 players, couldn't find the Bell quote tho, just murmurs from Foxfooty from ly

I really like Treacy he is a physical competitor but feel he's a bit overrated non here, lacks some of the finer skills and probably only a 50 50 chance to make it imo
ok he's starting to look the goods already! Also very pleasantly surprised to see he has an impressive extra burst of speed that we have seen a few times.

It's not about concessions, it's about getting creative, shuffling the pieces and doing deals with other list managers to get it done. It's happened before and it'll happen again. The reference to the AFL, was more about them letting clubs push it a little bit. Whether this would allow us in the frame is doubtful, but we'd need to get creative and show them how it could be done to their advantage, to be any chance.

They really need to just play him if they are serious about his development. He isn’t where he needs to be consistently but he works hard and is a competitive, and has some weapons which will pay off if he can bring them week in week out.

In some respects, the tabs injury may be a real boon for the squad in the long term if Treacy can hold his spot.

That said, he can’t afford another 4 touch game with players banging the door down to get into the team and the ability of Fyfe to swap to Treacy’s role.

Love his effort though, nothing better than when he has a big run down tackle.

I don't think the 4 possessions matter. He halves almost every contest he doesn't win and I think he is considerable better than (current) Fyfe at doing that.

I am only dropping him if he starts getting intercepted on and/or if Kuek starts kicking bags of 5 each week in the WAFL.

Just keep playing him for a few weeks, the confidence and consistency should come. And if not then go back for a run at the lower level.

iirc he created one goal for someone else with his work off the ball. I really just like the guy's intent around the physical contests.
