Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Does he have much trade value at his age? Doesn't fit Hawks profile. A kid who does is Henry. Can't get a game with us, but young enough and with elite skills. Someone will want a crack at him.

Henry for Brockman?

Tabs is 30 in a couple of weeks and even though he was all we had for a considerable amount of time, he's played 120 games across eleven seasons.

The only thing holding value for him at all is that he is contracted for next season. If another club will offer him three years he should request the trade and Freo should facilitate it.

You're right that Henry would be more likely to attract interest.

Trade Taberner to Hawthorn for Brockman.
As much as I like this option, I'm not confident Hawthorn would feel the same. A 30 year old injury prone kpf with questions around how he would fit the Hawks forward structure with Mitchell Lewis and kozi already occupying kpf spots - both much younger than tabs.

Tabs would be more appealing (in theory if fit) to a challenging team light on KPFs. Not sure who that describes, if anyone.

Collingwood are who I think could most use Tabs, GWS are the one who most need him. Richmond if they feel arrogant. Essendon could want him purely so they don't have to play against him.

Agree pies are obvious here

Cal Twomey on the gettable podcast also said he expects Darcy to sign an extension with Freo. Colin Young confirmed that Freo have a lot of meetings re contracts over the bye, so hopefully with the noise around Darcy about to extend means we're about to lock him and Treacy in for a couple of years at least, ideally with Cox too

Makes for an interesting debate- if given the choice, would rival clubs choose Henry or Tabs? (If trade capital is the same). Would be leaning towards Henry personally.

Collingwood or Melbourne? Reckon we'd be lucky to get a future third for him but better than nothing. Sounds harsh given his 10 year history here, but I'm all for trading Tabs. I just don't reckon he can work in well with our forward system - regardless of ability.
Edit: Tabs currently contracted to end of 2024, so if traded you would imagine we'd have to pay a chunk of his salary for next year. (Not the end of the world depending what he's on).

Henry for Brockman?
Henry for Brockman would be pretty redundant yeah? may as well keep Henry.

They are very different players. One is a pure small forward, the other is better suited as a link up player on the wing like Gaff.

And even if you want to view them both as small forwards, Brockman has superior pace, kicking depth and natural forward craft.

The choice should be his but he is very handy depth. I would keep him if we could. Brockman shouldn't cost too much anyway.
agree. we're getting a bit used to having few injuries. Tabs in the wings should someone go down at a key point would be very handy depth. Rather that than rely on some 18 yo prospect for a key game.

Have you watched them both play? I want Henry to make it as much as anyone but he's been very poor at afl level. Brockman has been quality. It's a massive upgrade.

You might be right but I think they really like Worner. I’d move both Wilson and Wagner first personally
You’re right about Worner. An article on the Freo website just now. The article also has this quote from Mr Bell:

“We have players like Nathan Wilson, we’re liking what Corey Wagner is doing in his first year at the club. We feel we have some real depth to our list at the moment.”

Cox is the one that worries me; if he left then I think that sets us back far more than any of last year's trades, and in conjunction presumably with Pearce a couple of years later to Tassie rips a big experience hole in the backline, even with some talented key position defenders being developed. I just can't help but think that all the talk at the start of the year about getting Naughton or Pickett must be driven by some trade that we were inevitably going to have to make because someone was tempted by a massive contract, and I can imagine Adelaide being a tempting prospect for him if the offer was there, given they seem to be on the rise again.

I would rather we retained Cox and lost Treacy than the other way around.
