Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

List spaces getting tight

Not sure it is tbh. Really depends on amount of useable draft picks etc we have available by the end of trade period.

Outside of players the club would really want to keep and recent draftees I’m not sure we have all that many out of contract in 2024. It’d most likely make list spots insanely tight next year unless we give one or two players one year contracts this year.

We’re possibly looking at two straight years of smaller than normal list turnover tbh. That’s reasonably fine by me if we keep the majority of our list together and can still compete post 2025 when Fyfe and Walters will most likely be done.

I think you're saying this anyway but the fact Naughton has kicked the same amount of goals given Mihocek basically got to start in his prime demonstrates how much better a player Naughton is.

I'm saying that Mihocek is currently just as good as Naughton - and was agreeing with a poster above that he's very underrated.

But yeah clearly you'd have Naughton over him for his potential and time left in his career.

We now have 4 significant wins on the trot and an increasingly powerful argument for not trying to fix what aint broke...

The next contract for Walters should be his last. He's 32 and while he hasn't ever been basing his game on athletic ability we are in the stage where his body being able to back up week after week will decide. Two years in my opinion, with the second year being a coaching contract where Walters is on the rookie list for salary cap reasons and he starts the year as a player but finishes the year as a coach.

31 goals from 13 finals, he always pops up and is always dangerous in the big games. Exactly the player you want around a young list getting finals experience.

I remember trying to steal Checkers, was when JL came over I think, was going to be one of those rookie list poachings


Good to hear about Sturt, means he was backing himself in, hopefully means we should give him another year

I think it’s time people start to realise that Brody Mihocek is actually a bloody good footballer.

He might not be as talented as some KPFs but he gets the job done just as well if not better than quite a few of the ‘elite’ KPFs in the AFL. He seems to be continually underrated - the only reason I can think of is his draft position.

If Treacy reaches Mihocek’s level combined with Amiss reaching his potential then we’re all good for KPFs.

I was very keen on trying to recruit him about the same time Longmuir came over, I was pretty disappointed when he signed on for Collingwood.

yep. We are obviously are going all in for cup by 2025 or bust. Publicly stated it, players know it, contracts show it, players age profile reflects it, current results indicate it. Takes a lot of everything coming together and a pinch of luck, but club knows 2024/25 are ripe for the picking.
