Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

No the point is you cite other rumours from other organisations. I.e. 'it has been reported'. Citing your own opinion columns is idiotic.
They've been unashamedly referencing their own articles recently, at least there's no pretence they're trying to genuinely follow journalistic standards, just going the tabloid route.

What they'd be doing is offering him $750k per season and then a million or two in property deals outside the cap. It seems clear to me that is how they operate with Dangerfield, Hawkins, Cameron, etc. As if Hawkins only gets 300k from them. Pull the other one.

Property is such a perfect rort, as valuations are subjective. Especially in large rural properties. Very easy for them to stitch up some massive perks that can't even be questioned by the AFL. Happens all the time. My neighbour passed and the kids sold the house for 25-30% unders because they couldn't be bothered fixing the place up for a fraction of that. Down on the surf coast and inland, you could easily find a player a 3 million dollar property that they end up paying 2 million for.
Every club does it, it's no coincidence that we started recruiting heavily as Alcock came in and again no coincidence that they all had fancy new houses

Unpopular opinion here.

If Geelong would throw us 2 first round picks for Sean then I say lets do it. It would enable us to pick up Edwards from Peel - one of our NGA boys who is regarded as the best ruckman in this years lot. Jacksons best position is as a ruck and Reidy can provide adequate backup until Edwards and Knobel develop

I have doubts about Darcy's longetivity. I reckon he will break down a bit in the future.

FWIW I think he will re-sign with Freo.

Geelong currently hold pick #11 then pick #85.

There's no way this deal goes through end of this season and having Sean Darcy in 2024 could literally be the difference between winning or not winning a flag - that's not being hyperbolic, he makes us that much better.

Very interesting.
If he is valued at that, that’s two first rounders this year and perhaps 2 future firsts?
Geelong’s hand sucks, probably will throw in players.

No way would touch that. He’s a must have and key for the premiership

No one in the history of the sport has been traded for 4 x first rounders.

Letting senior guys go pushes your window back though.

We're a stronger team this year with Acres and Logue but low balling them to leave makes sense long term. We're a couple of big bodies away from top 4 this year IMO.

Trading Darcy for 2 x first rounders makes us (potentially) stronger in 2026 but it makes a flag next year unlikely and impossible if Jackson goes down.

Then if we trade Darcy with an eye on 2026 we need to replace Fyfe and Walters, and potentially other guys who will be 30 when their careers could end quickly.

I say chips in on Darcy and try to win one with Darcy, Fyfe, Pearce, Walters, O'Meara.

I know the Eagles won a flag with Hansen and Q Lynch who were mediocre but they would have been in their mid 20's and 100kg each. It's unlikely we win a flag with Amiss and Treacy in their early 20's next year, we need the Unicorn and Darcy rotating forward.

I understand what you are saying and what I am saying is the way it is done now is almost exclusively idiotic.

Jounro says X - news anchor refers to that story as authority for a piece - 4x online publications run it - then clips are posted to Youtube and to website showing this story. All publications are owned by the same group and it was all ready to run before the first story was launched.

Day two is then reaction to reactions and then some other media company picks it up or their own radio station and then they have reactions to the reaction. In the meantime SEO is amazing and they are seen as an authority and the story is 'everywhere'.

That eagles side had arguably one of the best midfields ever seen. Brilliant midfielders kicking goals covers the output of mediocre forwards.

Hawkins is on 300k a year

He is taking massive unders to try win flags

The AFL give prize money to the clubs for winning finals and flags that the club can spread around however it wants without impact on caps.

I think it's a way for guys like Hawkins to be taken care of.

Then charge them for the meat.

Whenever someone says Dogga's best position is as ruckman, I wonder if they have spent more time listening to Kane Cornes and Co. than watching his games this season.

Dogga's best position is wherever the hell he plays, his versatility is part of his arsenal.

He and Swaggy in tandem has sides sweating.

Swaggy as the big bullocking tap ruckman who wins most of the ruck taps and Dogga winning clearances whether he is rucking, roving or in the forward 50.

I doubt it is a coincidence that Swaggy is in All Australian form and Dogga is having a career year.
