Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

I'd forgotten that was how they got May.

So we basically gifted them a flag while simultaneously costing ourselves one.

Noiiiiiiiice.

Get ****ed Rosich.
Let it go, everything is easier in hindsight.

It lead to a clean out and they haven’t put a foot wrong since. No list decisions are made in isolation so you can’t just switch one out for another and end up with our current squad plus King or who ever.

Hmmm in this instance it was pretty obvious at the time.

But yes, butterfly wings and all that. I'm pretty happy with our current squad - excited to see what they can do this year.

Weird one but watching those highlights I just can't see him fitting well into our team structures. He doesn't have the raw pace of someone like Frederick and his kicking action looks unreliable with an awkwardly high ball drop. He also takes way too many low percentage shots instead of doing the team thing. Tackles numbers are okay, but he is no Switkowski (Sam averages an extra tackle a game) and Frederick is getting closer too.

Perhaps if we could play him on a wing it might work out?

He kicked more goals than any Fremantle player last year.

I’m sure he stays at the Dees, but if he asked to come to Freo that is the only stat that matters.

it’s pie in the sky type stuff, but don’t know why he’s been completely ruled out.
The Dees books must be strapped with all the players on million dollar contracts, and he’s apparently not a big fan of living in Melbourne?

Didn’t realize how elite he was, he’s kicked 40 goals and so many of those have come out of nothing plays.
Would be a pretty handy Walters replacement

Not sure how pie in the sky it is actually. There's been a bit of smoke around Pickett.

Scuttlebutt is that Trent Rivers may look at moving home at the end of his contract, but Eagles would be all over that one. West Coast are getting set for a big play for Georgiades, so that may complicate things.

I'd be surprised if we didn't look at Sharp again at the end of the year. Will depend on what type of season he has.

There's also a small chance Jesse Motlop will come back to the club that supported him as an NGA. If he hasn't re-signed mid-season the Blues should start getting worried.

Going out, Liam Henry is the one who seems to be linked to a move East the most.

Got a feeling Henry is just trying to gauge interest early in case he doesn’t become best 22 here tbh.

We’ve got a bunch of non-best 22 30+ year olds (Hamling, Wilson, Colyer etc) that’ll probably be the first to go if the club thinks they have enough depth in their roles. I’d say Benning and Kuek would need to show a bit to stay on the list (more confident in Kuek atm). Sturt probably as well. After that it’s hard to see who else we’ll cut - and we’ll cut at least five going off history.

In the balance of things we’ll probably give Henry a one year deal if he’s not best 22. Why would he accept that if he’s getting offered 2-3 elsewhere?

If he becomes best 22 I reckon he’ll stay on a 2-3 year deal and we don’t bother chasing Sharp.

Wilson and Hughes will probably depart.

We have been active traders so I don't expect 5 cuts.

Maybe cuts or retirement:
Colyer, Benning, Wilson, Walters (not looking for a fight about this and expecting a good year from him, but he is a 'maybe').

Maybe trade in search of opportunity;
Hughes, Banfield, Sturt, Hamling, Worner (Henry could be here but I'll hold that back, but we can cover the others).

Wildcard:
Fyfe to GCS. ewww. But Taylor has raised it....

By cuts I meant departures from our list. Five changes to our is if anything conservative.

Hughes has another year to run on his contract after this year. I don’t think we would pay him out and can’t see there being a market for his services.

Just going to be depth for the next 2 years.
We wouldn't pay him out, but we have just brought in several mature players who look highly unlikely to be best 22. Other clubs may have a carrot of hope to dangle in front of him.

I’d be surprised if any club dangles a carrot of hope, he’s 30 next year and has never really locked down a position.

Fyfe and Walters leaving would be for the same reason, being offered bigger contracts elsewhere than Freo will entertain and both are unrestricted free agents.

There is a price point for both here and value externally. If a club like GC or St Kilda want the value of their marketability and standards and rate it higher than we are, they should take the last big offer.

I think Hughes will stay on until the end of his contract; he won't be of interest to other clubs but at the same time our club values him for his work ethic and mature body, and he is always thereabouts to potentially be in the frame if we lose a couple of defenders or midfielders at finals time to sneak in there.

I have no idea about actual drivers, but my guess would be that Fyfe's competitive drive will stem for a premiership rather than for crazy money at the end of his career, so unless there is an offer from an equal or better premiership team, and he is still part of the best Freo 22 then my bet is that he stays on.

I think the lure of a premiership would outweigh a financial gain at this stage of their careers.

Talking to Michael outside of footy he isn't in the position to leave the state. Nothing to do with football but mostly to do with family reasons.

Won't happen

Never.

They are both super loyal, bleed purple and only care about team success. To suggest otherwise is basically sacrilege.

Walters could get a nice offer from RTB, maybe a coaching job on the end of it, wouldn’t rule it out.
Won’t be much room up forward when kozzie comes over..

Does fit the Colon play to whisper to Ralphy about Liam maybe wanting out.
But could also be Kozzies management drumming up the close ties to Liam to get Melbourne to pony up.
They’d go sick losing another one to us!

How big could the market really be for Henry…
