Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

There is just zero chance of hamling staying around on the list for next year. That’s pretty clear after the weekend.
Colyer
Wilson
Benning
Hamling

All definitely gone.
Henry - seems very likely based on all the commentary.
Reidy - wouldn’t be surprised if we delist but it will just be another state league ruck replacing him and he’s probably just as good as anyone else that’s available. One more year for him then whoever is projecting the least promising out of him and Knobel will get the strnadica/Scott Jones treatment at the end of 2024.
If we only delist 4 or 5 this season they will be a sizeable cull next year.

Banfield, Corbett and Kuek can consider themselves very lucky to have next year as contracted players.

It would require their first this and next even if we had to send something back but I just dont see it happening. I think Geelong are starting a proper clean out of older players and need more draft picks, not less
Agreed - aren’t they saying they are hitting the draft this year?
Also, they have pick 9, and that’s it. No second or third round pick. It seems implausible that Darcy would go to them now..

If Geelong put such a deal in front of Darcy that he can't say no to it then he has to try and get there. But, and it's no small butt, we aren't required to make that a cheap outcome. I remember them demanding more and more and more when Jordan Clark was not playing for them but under contract.

I'd want their top ten pick, I'd want their first round pick next year and I'd want them to have to lose a player this year for another first or second round pick and I'd want that too.

Geelong can't afford from a list management perspective to commit so much into one player. That will mean six first round picks into Jeremy Cameron and Sean Darcy.

It's the same reason why we can't afford to buy a superstar key forward on huge money without losing someone too.

It's just not going to work. Scott Lucas has already said Sean is playing at Freo in 2024 anyway.

I would prefer to have him and Cox signed for the rest of the decade before Christmas.

3 Firsts for Sean Darcy? Come on now.

Champman giving off Nathan Freeman vibes

Yes. Because we are talking about a club who has an average first round pick of the last four years at the draft of pick number twenty. (#21, #17, #25, #19).

First round picks are not all the same. Obviously.

I half want Darcy to go so that I can waste 9 days of my life listening to trade radio and another 100 hours in the lead up to the draft, but then I remember that if we trade him, he wouldn't play for us next year and that makes me sad.

Get the poooowwaaaaaaahhhhh

AAaaaand we're back with TRade RAdio Early Mornings with Kane Cornes and I'm Sam Edmund talking about the BREEAking news about Freo big man Sean Darcy requesting a trade to Victoria, what do you think Kaneo?

He's a really good player, potential best ruckmen in the competition and very young - but with Luke Jackson there do Freo really need him?

So you think a second round pick will do it?

I don't think so Sammy

I do, I don't think Freo will stand in his way after getting Jackson.

That's basically how the Adam Cerra discussion went.

Best case scenario is we KEEP both Henry and Sturt.

Keep Hamling for one more year to give mature protection for Cox and Pearce and allow Davies and Draper to develop.

Can move Corbett or Emmett to the rookie list or both if we need to upgrade a couple. They’re not getting taken by other teams let’s be honest.

Take the best small forward we can get, one with pace and goal kicking ability. Collard or Sanchez? We need a Walters replacement and the acid needs to go on guys like Switta. He must do more than fade in and out and must kick more goals

Colyer, Wilson and Benning gone

More pick next year to look at Fyfe and Walters replacements
Need to be careful moving Emmett to rookie via delisting. He becomes a DFA for life. He hasn’t done anything wrong down at Peel.

If Hamling is to stay then he would be the one I’d delist via Rookie along with Corbett.

That would still only give us 3 ND and no rookie list selections. I really can’t see it being that minimal. You have to remember that Treacy and Banfield need to be upgraded. So essentially those two upgraded and replaced on rookie list with Corbett and Hamling.

Then the three list spots are for Colyer, Benning and Wilson. I really doubt that would happen. One extra ND spot for Henry if as expected he seeks a trade.

After further reflection I can’t see Hamling being retained. I don’t mind the idea but feel he is likely to be cut.

I've been a decent plugger of Emmett, I like what he offers but I dont think giving him DFA is something that's going to hurt us. We'll trade at least one player in as well, we almost always do (Brockman, Trey "Stable Pony" Ruscoe)

We’ve not traded in any players twice in the last ten years. Of course it’s more likely we do trade someone in but it’s certainly not impossible we don’t.
