Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Brockman 🙅

Riccardi 🙋‍♂️

Riccardi and Freo is like dogs and Lobb situation. Play their career best footy every time they play each other and then fool the oppo into thinking they’re a good player.
Like Tabs & Essendon... there has to be at least one real casual Bomber fan out there that only watches Bombers games and doesn't follow the rest of the league that must think Tabs is one of the best players in the league

Appears Sturty confirmed for next year!

DOCKERS FORWARD HITS TRIGGER

FREMANTLE has taken care of most of its list management decisions already in 2023, including former first-round pick Sam Sturt.

The 23-year-old signed a one-year deal for this season last September that included a trigger for 2024.

Sturt is understood to have now hit that clause and will remain at the Dockers next year.

After being taken at pick No.17 in the 2018 AFL Draft, Sturt has been forced to deal with plenty of injury setbacks across his journey, managing only four appearances across his first four seasons in Perth.

But things have changed this year. Sturt has played 11 games so far in 2023, including the past eight straight.

So last year when he wanted two years, we only offered 1 with a trigger, no wonder there hasn’t been a new contract announced, it was already there and the club knew it. Nice one!

LOW DRAFT PICKS EXPECTED

CLUBS are bracing for a low number of picks to be used at this year's national draft with a pressure for list spots across the competition.

West Coast list manager Rohan O'Brien last week told Gettable that the Eagles were anticipating using "four to five" picks at this year's draft as they continue their rebuild, but that level of investment is likely to be the outlier as a number of clubs expecting to potentially only use two live selections.

Last week the AFL announced its list of invitees to the Draft Combine in October, with 61 players to test and meet clubs across the three days. The lower number of players nominated for the Combine has seen clubs believe there could be another low total of selections used in November.

Last year's tally of 59 live picks equalled that of the 2020 intake, which was a record-low number of picks but came after the COVID-hit season.

There were 65 picks used in the 2021 draft, meaning the average of 61 picks has become the new normal.

The addition of the pre-season supplemental period as well as the mid-season draft has made for other avenues to get onto AFL lists, but the national draft numbers are remaining low. – Callum Twomey

RUCK PRODIGY

Veteran rucks Rhys Stanley and Jon Ceglar, both 32, have decisions to make on their futures.

The Cats are excited about the upside of young tall Toby Conway (taken with pick 24 in 2021) despite a foot injury which derailed his season.

The plan is for the 20-year-old to get some exposure at senior level next season, but he will need at least one of Stanley or Ceglar to stay.

The Cats are not expected to make a strong play for Melbourne’s Brodie Grundy, as the club believes Conway is the man to take it forward in the ruck.

The Geelong Falcon, who has grown to 206cm this year, was All-Australian at the national championships in his draft year.

The Cats have previously shown an interest in Dockers big man Sean Darcy, but the star ruck has said he’s staying in the west.

I'm still not convinced Barrass is staying at WC. It's just too early to speak of such things, even when injured, and I think Sydney didn't want to lose Chad and two firsts for him after O'Brien called them and put the hard man talk on.
Pretty public announcement and Cal Twomey spoke about this on Gettable yesterday. That the word from the man himself has been strong. So strong that Sydney have already moved on to other targets (he has clearly spoken with Sydney recruiters). You never know during trade week I guess as Sydney might have another crack but it will take something pretty special to prise him away.

Yeah, all of this has “Barrass staying” talk has been since Rohan was on Gettable.

Then Gossage was the source for him staying, who’s either playing the mouthpiece, or just parroting RoB’s interview

He’s an unrestricted free agent. Sydney won’t be paying anything for him
And I doubt we’d get much compo
We would get zip compo. Cant see him going over to Sydney. He would at best have 1 more year in him. We may find a way to keep him as rookie security as his leadership at Peel has been very good. He and Davies could step in as replacements.

O’Brien doesn’t strike me as much of a hard man.
How long is the there at WCE anyway? He’s had some bad misses at the draft recently. I guess he did grab Oscar Allen

Best chance is that he retires and signs for peel as a regular WAFL player. We would have his leadership then just he wouldn’t be able to play.

Kind of depends I reckon. If we were to draft a mature aged KPD to replace him would you still want Hamling, Davies and Draper at Peel? Peel Reserves would be a disaster for the development of Davies or Draper imo.

Kind of feel the same way about Knobel and Riley Smith eventually tbh. They'll come a stage where Knobel might be better than Smith but we won't know until Smith or Reidy isn't in the side.

Gettable podcast saying Liam Henry atm is 50/50 short term contract with freo or exploring vic options. Don’t think it would hurt anyone if he signed for two years and then explored his options end of next year ala Tucker and Meek if he’s still unhappy
Just don't think they've got good mail on Freo on there

Was moreso guessing

When knobel is ready then Reidy gets the sack you'd think

Problem is knobel may walk to another club if he is any good
