Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Ginnivan is unlikeable in the same way Ballas was. It's nice having an annoying player that gets under oppo players and fans skin when he plays for your team.
Disagree, Ballas left it on the field. Ginnivan plays the villain role and then actively drew attention off the field by complaining about being treated like the villain.

Not interested.

Doubt he'd want to come to Freo anyway, seems like a guy that loves the big bright lights of Melbourne.

Stephens hasn't impressed me. Looks quite average to me and not really interested. If he wasn't drafted so high, nobody would even be talking about him. McAsey is a stone cold dud, but the rest of that top 15 have all shown way more (albeit only recently from Henry and Flanders).
That McAsey pick is a generational **** up from Adelaide. Given the players picked up all around him, truly one of the worst picks of all time. Like, Saints have their Billings / McCartin's and Tigers have their Tamblings and co but a top 6 pick on a KPD that plays like 20 extremely shit games with like 10 straight open draft names of good to elite players straight after is something else.

This board would never let it go if it was us

Can I just say that I think Hase might be the worst list analyser for any "expert".

He's desparate for us to trade Darcy
Wants to bin Treacy because he doesn't kick enough goals (as if that was unusual for a KPF his age)
Thinks Erasmus should look to move on because JoM, Fyfe and Brodie are going to keep him out of the team.

I bet he'd tick off bringing Neale back this trade period for our future first too.

He's ****ing hopeless. Complete lack of foresight. Either that or he's trying to sabotage the club.

So true, we traded pick 6 & Lachie Neale for two players who just kicked 9 goals in the derby between them and people still act like it was a bad trade year.

I think it's important to split our trading and drafting (because one is horrific and one is elite) and I'm sorry but yes, effectively turning Lachie Neale into nothing was horrific

The fact that our drafting has been godlike makes our awful trading worse. Imagine what we could have done with the picks!

9 goals!

If you want to base it off this season I'm not sure he gets a game for us either tbh. Has fallen out of favour big time. He certainly wouldn't be a walk up start.

For small forwards Schultz is ranked top 10 for goals and no. 1 for tackles inside 50. Maybe it's time to realize he's actually a pretty good small forward.

Walters and Freddy aren't that far off in terms of goals either - defensive stuff they'd be down in Schultz I'd imagine.

Then people want to keep Sturt in the side. If his form stays the same I'm one of them.

especially seeing their biggest weakness now imo is their midfield, and they had Serong right there for the taking…

thank you Adelaide

So what is Schutlz worth in trade while contracted?

Hard to know imo.

He’s not as highly rated as the stats suggest. He isn’t the most skilful, most naturally talented and isn’t the quickest etc. but he just gets the job done.

It feels weird to say but I reckon he’s less valuable from trade perspective as small forwards that are far less effective.

Could be anywhere from the early second round onwards tbh.

I remember Walls purposely let it slip to Twomey ( I think) that we were keen on McAsey as Crows were big on him and Young. Basically spooked Crows to take Mcasey first at pick 6 leaving Young for us. We weren’t interested in McAsey at all of course. Shrewd move by Walls if true.

That year there was some rights and wrongs on both Trading and Drafting. Drafting isn’t an exact science so you forgive a few misses. But the trade up and picks released to pick up Valente weren’t great. Valente was well rated but slid due to injuries it seemed but we gave up quite a price to slide a few picks forward.

But selections of Sturt (17), Schultz (57) and Hughes (Rookie) were ticks.

Trading overall very much shaped by Hogan disaster, having nothing to show for Neale and not retaining a top 10 pick. Colyer was a decent addition at cost F4. Lobb a good addition and end cost was good but the fact that we split picks and mucked around to not end up with a top 10-12 pick was not a good outcome. So big fail the trading 2018.

The fact Adelaide selected McAsey at 6 is very different and unrelated comparison to us trading out Neale for net result of pick 59 - Brett Bewley, pick 50 - Brandon Walker and 19 games of Hogan) and also not retaining a top 10 pick.

Crows were always wanting McAsey but thought they might be able to downgrade their pick and still get him. They successfully downgraded pick 4 to 6 with GWS. They were in talks with Carlton to trade pick 6 to 9, and Carlton were trying to get Young. We then spooked the Crows by being "keen" on McAsey so they cancelled the deal with Carlton. Carlton didn't like that so they bid on Henry at pick 9. Worth noting that pick 4 was originally Carlton's but they traded it the year before in a deal for Stoker.

He is super valuable. Borderline A grader. Leads the league in tackles inside 50 and has kicked 32 goals for the season.

I wouldn’t trade him for a top 10 pick.

Sharp (or similar) is a no brainer if Henry leaves. We've seen with Brodie that there is a chance a bloke in their 2s can be AFL standard.

Williams and Stanley look promising long term but neither get much of the ball yet so probably a bit to work on.
Sharp was so close last trade period. Freo needed a few more minutes. I’m sure he will be looked at again.

I agree actually but was trying to be more realistic in my response.

I don't believe what we'd get for him would come anywhere near matching his output. Bit like Acres except about 15-20 picks earlier.

We're supposed to have "had interest from non-WA players". Looking through the OOC dudes this year and Hollands from GC is the only one I could see (other than Stephens who's off to North apparently) that might be interesting.

Absolutely nothing linking us to him and he's done basically nothing at AFL level but he was a #1 pick until he did his knee.

Flanders as well, unless he has already signed.
