Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Regarding the whole Henry leaving scenario, I actually think with NOD Stanley and Johnson we have coverage for the wing positions.
I am including Johnson because with Young moving to inside mid we suddenly have the size we have been lacking and Johnson did a pretty good job on the weekend, pretty sure when he kicked that goal he was playing on the wing and he’s faster than most.

You could well be right. Only passing on what I’m told. The club was in the dark with Cerra right up till the day he told them.

I mean… I love your intel and you’re as accurate a ‘heard this from someone’ bloke on these forums. No doubt you’re privy to some inner sanctum stuff and no doubt it doesn’t always play out

BUT

If the club were in the dark about Cerra, they must operate 3 miles below the Earth’s surface in some bunker with no lights.

Every man and their dog had Cerra leaving.

I’d say 95% have Henry leaving.

For Cerra it was obvious.

I have no idea why Henry wants out. To put forth reasons would be pure speculation.

Do I want him to stay? Absolutely. Young players developing you always hope to stay.

Do I think he has another gear? NOPE. He’s had the wing to himself for the second part of the year and without sounding unfair (because he has broken out) he’s about as damaging as my 6 year olds off spin.

Believe what you want bro. My contacts aren’t some bloke. If you followed closely you would recognize that. I spoke to my man the day before Cerra announced he was gone. Did they have suspicions? Probably.
For anyone who listens to hase on SEN, I’m “The mate” he refers to. We speak weekly about footy, and I often tell him what I can without giving too much away.

This. I have no idea why Henry is contemplating leaving - as Eliza said, it's a 'curious case' - my money's on him getting very poor advice. What we do know is that he's not the second coming of Robbie Flower and has limited hurt factor, think Ed Langdon without the gut running and footy smarts. So let's just focus on getting something decent in exchange.

Can you tell Hase to stop trying to get rid of Sean Darcy!? You don’t trade out A graders

was gaff's measured when he was running away from his shadow?

I was curious about this, how exactly do the measure “distance traveled at high speed”? I’m sure there’s some arbitrary cutoff, 20km/h or 25km/h, though it says a lot that Johnson and Hunt were the only ones to make top 5 for both this and top speed. Have a feeling that his km were at a higher speed than Gaffs.

Edit: looked it up, “high speed” equals over 18 km/h so I would say even Gaff could rack up the km running up and down the wing at that pace, can he break 30km/h regularly, doubt it.

He likes Darcy, he just doesn’t want a large chunk of our money tied up in 2 rucks, which tbf is prob right. His view, is that if we want Darcy to leave, or he wants to leave, we have to cash in now, coz we need another high quality forward, and he’s a rfa next year.

This was my line of thinking too. But Jackson is good enough up forward and rotating through the ruck when Darcy needs a rest is fine by me.

If Darcy wants to leave we should extract a very good trade. If he stays we have a large chunk of money tied up in a gun ruck and a guy who can tear it up anywhere on the park, aka as a unicorn.

Yeh I’m torn on this one, but I think you’re right. It’s prob one of the rare occasions you can play 2 highly paid, high quality rucks. I know the people that matter think that. Hase made a good point to me. The reason he’s so good in the center bounce roving, is because he is so superior to his opponent. When he goes forward, a defender is much more athletically gifted, so he’s not as effective.

The thing with Jackson as playing number 1 ruck is how he goes against the top tier not makeshift rucks. When he has to shoulder this burden and the wear and tear of being jumped into and wrestled by behemoths. Pretty sure this will hinder and have impact on other aspects of his game like mobility and potential succumbing to injury

Not too long ago there was an argument we couldn't win without triple J fwd structure and needed Darcy in ruck. Win few games against poor opposition and now ppl calling to trade darcy

Wasn’t having a crack at you at all. Quite the opposite.
I know your intel is solid… pretty much said that in my post.

I’m just saying EVERYONE had Cerra leaving in and around these forums.

EVERYONE had him leaving pretty much from the moment we drafted him.

I think you misread my post. Said you’re solid.

I also didn’t say ‘some bloke’.
You misread that too.

You’re the ‘bloke’ in my post.

As soon as you scratch out the ruck on Jackson and put mid, treating the ruck like you do when you look at Treacy, the easier it will be to pay the mid 750k and the actual ruck in Darcy 750k
Darcy already getting $750k or so, possible even a little more.
Won’t he want $850k for the most lucrative contract of his career which is always the one you sign as a 25/26 year old?
Also I think the term is just as important as the annual amount for freo. He will want 5 or 6 years minimum and why wouldn’t he

I'm sure you are right here. I think we backed ourselves in and failed.
I still think it's the kind of risk you want the club to take.
It's impossible to know if COVID impacted or changed what would have happened, and he was the right fit for our list.

It doesn't help that there's a draftee recruited from WA sitting at #9 from the same draft that would have been even better, but you can't win them all.
