Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Grundy will be a fine ruckman when he's the main man. It was such an odd decision for the Dees to chase him when they already have Grundy.

The rumours are very strong now that Henry wants to go to Victoria. Who knows his real reasons but there seems to be a lure to play in Melbourne.
His last few weeks have provided us an insight into his future potential. Henry is a gifted footballer whose body will develop and strengthen and with that his confidence to attack the ball and be more effective at winning contested ball.
It’s only my view but I feel he will be a big loss on the wing. Damaging wingmen who can deliver inside 50 are so important. I think we suffered with the loss of Acres (not in any way due to his inside 50 delivery though). Another important hole in the list to fill, we are unlikely to get much for Henry as a free agent after all of our development effort. A shame we couldn’t hold him. Only those inside the club will know the real reasons.
Do you think he will ever be able to kick more than 30 metres?

If he runs 20 and kicks 30 that is fine. He is starting to run and carry now.

.
Most of the time he runs away from people, he is very unaccountable on a man, especially if they are a goal kicking wingman like Martin.

He does need to improve his accountability. I watched the Freo vs Bris mini last night and many times Ah Che who was playing on the wing opposed to Henry got loose on a chain of possessions going forward that lead to a goal. Then there was even one occasion, where after quite a delay in the umpire forcing Cameron to kick over the mark, he put the ball in a dangerous position for Ah Che to float across the front of the pack and take an unopposed mark about 20m out from goal with Henry watching on in the background.

It is a balance. You have a defensive winger like Hughes which was of no benefit to the teams ball movement. You have Henry who has worked on maintaining his width and getting back d50 to be a release but also helping the defenders. Yes he has no depth in kicking but does run and carry. He also needs to continue to run and carry more as the best wingers have much greater metres gained.

There are areas he needs to continue to work on but he has improved and become a more consistent and valuable wing asset. It is a real shame for him to go but we need to make the most of the situation and get some good trade currency. If I see and read Colon huffing and puffing about Freo playing hardball I could end up feeling the need to hurt Colon.

He beat Martin and Acres never has anyone anywhere near him. Sometimes Henry runs away from congestion to give himself space. I feel he us replaceable but he has been pretty good for a few weeks now, with last week probably being the least if them.

Worner, NOD, Stanley, Johnson. Brayshaw and Chapman could all play wing.
We need a winning culture, and he hasn’t bought in.
We need dog hungry players and he has no ties.

With all due respect Stanley is the only natural winger amongst that group.

NOD is an inside mid we tried to turn into a winger. It might work.

Worner is a half back we tried to turn into a winger before moving him back to the HBF again.

Johnson and Brayshaw are inside mids that can play a bit of wing.

Chapman looks to have the attributes to play wing but I’m not sure he’s actually played there all that much. If Young stays midfield I’d be hesitant to move too many more players from the backline either.

We need a specialist winger imo. Stanley and Williams are the only other two on our list really.

Nod played wing /mid for Perth and the state team.

I thought Worner was drafted as a winger and we moved him to the backline?

Pretty sure Worner was drafted as a winger, played a year in the wing when he went undrafted as an 18 year old

If he has no ties currently it is because he has sold out - The Ties — Tied To Culture

Pretty sure you can pre-order though.

He played wing the season we drafted. Before that he was a half back.
NOD definitely played a decent amount of wing for Perth Colts. I can’t comment on his WA performances. I saw a couple of the Perth colts games live. He also played a few stints in Perth league on the Wing.

His first season with Peel after drafting him was delayed and he spent a fair bit playing half back flank.

He had a massive PS end of 2021 and if you watched him playing half back for Peel 2021 vs his form for Peel on Wing as well as his promotion to Wing with Freo was massive improvement. Almost unrecognisable. This year injured, delayed start, brought back too early into AFL team and just an all round disappointment. Really hope he can have a massive pre-season and hit ground running. Go back and watch the late season game vs Bulldogs at Marvel where he won himself rising star award. We need that player back on one of the wings.

Get a pre season into Stanley and Henry would be playing for Peel again.

Was VERY impressed with the way he attacked the game and his foot skills…… OH MY!

Looks a great find. Credit to Walls (again) and agree with Henry, like Logue the writing is on the wall. He knows he will be fighting for a spot in the 22 next year.
