Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Banfield and Treacy upgrade means we need to demote a couple to rookie list as well.
Hamling - rookie (replace Banfield)
Corbett - rookie (replace Treacy)
Benning - draft pick 21
Colyer - draft pick 29
Wilson - draft pick 40
Walters (veteran) - 4th round draft (58) pick / 1st round rookie pick (5)
Henry > Sharp

Five new players

Henry, 52 > 29, F3
F4 (Freo) > Sharp

Wouldn't NOD be ahead of Sharp? Can Stanley play on the wing, I liked the small sample. With Young moving to midfield and talk of Fyfe back in there (of JOM/Brodie) does that give an opportunity for Jonno to move to wing?

Is Sharp required? Wouldn't he be down the pecking order?

We need to find an Isacc Smith type winger...

Not sure four-time premiership winning wingers are widely available.

I wonder if we will be a chance of going for gc pick 4. Surely they’d want a future 1st and by ladder positions only west coast, north and hawthorn to try before us. Unless they go another mid range team and 2-3 second rounders this year for the points or something.

Can someone ITK put my mind at ease re Schultz whom I rate for his 100% commitment (including going for goals, cf. with teammates who seem goal-averse). Is he contracted for future on decent money?

He's contracted for next season, so far

Have you seen the shape Noddy is in?

Have you seen the shape Noddy is in?

He was shocking this year but saw enough of him last year where he was running up and down the wing, showing pace, breaking lines and kicking uplifting goals... hopefully a big uninterrupted preseason

Showed more than sharp has...

Henry -> Sharp
Benning, Wilson, Colyer -> 3 ND picks
Walters to veteran list -> Rookie pick

Historic low turnover but makes sense

Pick 21, pick 40, pick 52 & pick 58 plus a pick for Henry (say 29) for 3 ND spots. We should be able to trade our picks and end up with 3 in the 20s draft night.

Potentially even one in the late first and in the 20s

Assuming we don’t need a pick for Sharp

If sharp is coming I think that means Hamling can start clearing out his locker.

I’m happy to see sharp come in on a cheap deal. One thing l like about him is that he has a booming kick, can punt the ball 60m with ease.
Nah, we are keen to retain hammer. Where’s the parallel? I feel we should have used him more and played cox forward more.

Similar tier imo. Sharp has him on running capacity easily (more so because Sharps running is elite), probably kicking range, mental consistency and injury history. NOD has him on contest work, I assume marking, and goalkicking especially when he's playing his natural game. NOD talked about doing off season work to get his body right to go inside and outside: if he does so, that might be the separator between them 2 (tho with Henry leaving, their spots aren't mutually exclusive).

More so about adding a player with a lot of traits we lack who will be a bargain if he's best 22 or even close to it and no real loss if he kinda flops. Similar to what fans hope Brodie's role can be in 2024.

Side note: if you combined Sharp and Brodie into 1 player, you'd get like the greatest midfielder of all time (except they'd still not be able to take a contested grab). Legitimately diametrically opposed skillsets.

I’m hearing Henry isn’t an absolute certainty to leave, but I admit it looks likely. I wonder if we look at brockman if he does.
This makes sense to me given the messaging from the club. I get hes highly likely gone, but I'd speculate it isn't (or wasn't) a fait accompli, possible we made our best offer and aren't prepared to budge in matching others?

This is encouraging to hear, Hamling is perfect depth for our tall defenders and allows us to play Cox forward if needed. I know spots are tight but would be really risky to let him go, we’d be a Pierce or Cox injury away from no tall backs!
