Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Sorry for the intrusion.

Cerra would have been at Melbourne if we had the currency, but a deal was never happening. Jackson also would have stayed if we were prepared to match your bid but that was never happening either (And credit to Freo, you’ve got a star for 10 years).
Apology not accepted and I don’t believe Jackson was ever staying, no matter how much was offered

And Hawthorn just happened to have pick 1 when Hodge was there and 2 top 5 picks (one a priority) the year other teams were stupid enough to take Tambling, Deledio & Griffin in the top 4 leaving them Franklyn at 5 after having taken Roughhead at 2.

They had a lot of high picks after bottoming right out for a few years & put together their premiership list during that period. They picked up the likes of Birchall, Lewis, Gilham, Rioli all with first rounders.

They also picked the eyes out of a bunch of later picks, rookie picks, trades in those years including getting Mitchell for something ridiculous (Lachie Neale effect, 2 short too slow).

They got Breust with a rookie pick.
They brought in Gunston for essentially pick 24. Guerra for nothing except a preseason draft pick. Dew for next to nothing. Young in the rookie draft. The last few mentioned all played in the 2008 flag.

It was a superbly built list with a purpose built gameplan by a coach ahead of his time.
My one of my clients is friends with Roughead's mum.

Richmond didn't select Roughead because they felt that his dad was over the top and difficult to work with.

By the way, Roughead mum divorced his father because he was a d!cK.

I mean, I could write a thesis on it
  • Travel
  • Not big enough to have a "platinum" level sponsorship with local media to help with off-field s**t
  • Not small enough to warrant any kind of help
  • WA based team with only the ability to trade in club rejects or WA players
  • The draft, the number 1 way we can bring in talent, is compromised to a ridiculous degree of which we get almost none of the benefits of said compromise.
  • Our WA players arent even locks to stay anymore

* we rarely play on FTA; all our players are severely underrated over East; so the narrative is our players are worth less at the trade table.

Angus signed on in July, there was plenty of chance to pivot

We didn't see Acres in our plan, can't blame anything else
How I understand it was that we did pivot and a 2 year deal on significantly more money was offered to Acres after Brayshaw knocked us back but in the interim his manager had sought out interest from other teams after the initial lowball offer from Fremantle and that's when Carlon made their offer.

Darcy unlocks the full potential of our midfield + luke Jackson. One of our most important players and leaders at the club just coming into the prime years for rucks, let's **** him off for some more magic beans!

Draft day dopamine makes people go mad.

You're the first one to say we put out a revised offer for him

All the messaging from last year was the offer was a slap in the face and we left it at that

Noone here ever said they wanted Jackson value for cerra btw

He was a comparison
Lol

No one said we wanted Jackson value for Cerra we were just directly comparing his trade result with Jackson.

Jackson > Cerra

Therefore no great shock here ....
Jackson trade value > Cerra

The main issue in this debate is you & Taylor think Cerra is comparable with Jackson.

Nothing wrong with that but own it and stop trying to muddy the waters.

To sum it up you rate Cerra far higher than me and I obviously rate Jackson far higher than you.

For the record - Freo Bigfooty has become a bit of an echochamber.

I did. I’d rather have Cerra than either of the other 2.
So would I.

We got a better deal for Cerra than the Pies did for Treloar so not sure how this plays into the Cerra deal was massive unders.

Cox & Cameron > Briggs and Broom

Maybe rucks are over rated.

Two firsts would be handy.

…. Just saying
By that logic, you'd take the Pies forwardline over the Crows then? You can absolutely get ruck dominance in a game. It probably wouldn't be my choice to stack, but it can work.

No team is strong in every part of the field because there is a salary cap.

It would be the Treloar -> Pies price, which was 2x1st with a 2nd going back. Think both ended being pick 7s.

We got way less than that.

It was mentioned on here several times last year that we revised our offer after Brayshaw re-signed.

Evidently our final offer had a performance based component that meant Acres could have earnt more here than at Carlton (where all the money was guaranteed).

But he decided to take the guaranteed money.
