Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

I find it so strange that players who are 18-19 years old don’t know where to position themselves. It’s like they lose all confidence entering the higher grade. It reeks of an over complicated game plan.

To be fair to the young players they get told where and how to play at AFL level. They also tend to go from being a star in junior, PSA or colts footy to being the lowest ranked players at the club when they get drafted.

I think they can get a bit overwhelmed by it all in their early days.

You are on the money with the over complicated game plan imo.

Not really.
18–19 year olds hardly have game plans and play out of contest, instinct. The top tier stand out, then come into the professional environment suddenly they’re exposed and not close to the level.

yeah clearly wed rather bring in a sam taylor than a ruscoe i think that goes wihtout saying

but i think picking up ruscoe doesnt preclude us getting one of those guys. if were into them the right moves will be made so that we have the spots should they be available i have no doubt of that

if the recruiting staff see somethign they like in ruscoe than i dont see an issue bringing him over on a short term deal to see if we can develop him some more, i think hes shown a bit in his short glimpses personally
My only problem with picking up the likes of Ruscoe (disclosure; I know nothing about him, but am referring to serviceable fringe-depth type players) is we have a bit of a record of giving them decent contracts. 2 years maximum for anyone in this category for a token draft pick.

Personally I think Hughes and Hamling are enough depth with Draper and Davies pushing up for opportunity. We still need to fit Chapman in.

When virtual reality gets really good I'm going to make a fitness app called "team defense" where all you do is follow a ghost Mario version of an AFL player as it runs around for 14km and never gets a touch.
This would actually help me.
Suck at self motivation and solo exercise. But will run til I die in a team environment. (Admittedly, that’s not long right now)

We were death riding North Melbourne this year, and we were one of the only teams that lost to them.
The irony is North's adeptness at going along with the death riding got them a compensation package that de-valued the pick we were death riding them for :poo:. A case of be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

Further ironies upon ironies, our North loss might have actually increased the potential to benefit us, by counter evidencing the case for compensation.

Phantom Draft
Some one posted in bigfooty main draft forum. Neale not in the phantom draft of Afl.com.au in 2011. He is not even mentioned in the possible rookie list as well. How did we find him? I was not in big footy at that time.Any one here like Chris 25 talked about Neale before draft atleast as a chance to be drafted ?

Some of those picks are interesting in hindsight.

Blokes like Ben Brown and Brody Mihocek feature but weren’t drafted until a few years later.

Interesting draft though

Mihocek did end up at collingwood many years later

Cam Eardley just won a premiership with the Sharks

Ben Brown ended up going a couple years later

Hamling ended up at the dogs as a DFA a few years later

Hill came to Freo after 3 prems

Even tho we miss out on Neale in this redo, we actually would have been much better off and thats after 2011 looked like a good draft for us with Sheridan, Croz, Neale and Sutcliffe

Sheridan and Crozier were massive duds.

Cannot believe Fremantle drafted 3 of the same types. All played the same position, more or less. But hey, love the half backers

Only Sutty was drafted as a half back flank from memory. Crosier was a forward and Sheridan a winger. And to be fair that is where they played most of their footy for us.

Probably because Sumich(Hackdorn) keeps bringing it up 😒
As much as I’d like to believe that, don’t think Barrett listens to those guys, not when he has club contacts.
