Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Well it’s not surprising is it?… we gave acres away for that so why wouldn’t saints ask for the same from OOC Henry?
Yes I know circumstances a bit different but that’s the way St kilda will be approaching it.

We’re a pushover club when it comes to OOC players and those two VFL dinosaurs will push us all the way in this deal

Reckon there’s going to be quite a few people get a reality check when they see what we end up accepting for Henry

If they offer a F3 only send him to the PSD. Make a stand. Player doesn’t get to the club he wants and it makes Young look like a dick to his client

100% It wouldn't even be a statement to do so. A future 3rd from a finalist is basically at the end of the draft these days.

But we've also heard we asked for 13 + player so theirs a chance (probably near 100%) that journalists talking crap to generate interest in a nothing trade period.

The reason we accepted so low for Acres was because we had no ground to stand on when we offered him only 180k. It showed how little we valued him, and we were happy to let him go, so we had no right to ask for anymore. If Saints want to use that as an argument then it's quite easy to point out how different the scenarios are. FWIW I reckon this will land as a second rounder with us asking for a 1st and them offering a 3rd.

Treacy adds tackle pressure workrate and halves contests.
I think Logan is the better player, but not by that much.
Not enough at this moment in time to justify selling the farm for him.
If Logan comes in he will be taking Treacys place.

I’m most intrigued by Sturt this off season. Will he work his bollocks off and go to another level again?
Been a big believer always in this guy. He’s capable of kicking bags regularly. There is 40 goals in a fully fit and focused Sturt over a full season I’m sure of it. Has some much needed class to compliment our grunt too.

Sturt needs to be able to play a hard working forward role, he’s not good enough in a tall forward role to displace Amiss, Jackson or Treacy. He doesn’t hold ground and bring the ball to ground like Treacy does. He needs to go up and down the ground. I think he can get there.

Sturt definitely isn't and never has been key forward.

He's a finisher and now he defends he'll get the chance to finish. I agree that covering more ground will make him more dangerous too.

Now we get to see what Bell is really made of. People seem to be split 50/50 on whether he is a good GM or not. If he folds and gets **** all compensation for our very own NGA product, there will be no more debate. He is already on thin ice for the Acres fk up so he needs to get this Henry trade right. Walk him to the PSD if we don't get any good offers or better yet, don't give Henry the choice and trade to the highest bidder. Nothing in the rules to suggest we can't do that.

I am happy for the club let Henry go to the draft.

Yep, very similar stats except Tabs was playing in a much better team and always had the massive tank so got to more contest.

Now factor in that Treacy is 5 times the defensive player, 5 times the field kick and useful in the ruck and you have twice the player at the same age.

It also doesn't show aerial contests and that would be interesting because I swear Tabs got outmarked a lot early days.

And really it doesn’t matter what the reasons were at te time , the fact is that was a bad trade outcome on our part and very good for Carlton.

Put it this way … remember your reaction to the suns demanding a second rounder for sharp last year?

Your first thought (rightfully so too) was I can’t believe they’re asking for that when they give p7 and bowes away for nothing or p19 with Brodie , or p11 for p27 in the original sharp deal etc etc.

When your club gives up assets so freely/is known to be a pushover at the trade table (ours when it comes to OOC players) it sets a precedent, rightly or wrongly that other clubs will follow.

Personally I think we ll still do the trade and we don’t walk him to PSD (would love the club to do so on this one tho)
But I can’t see it being more than their second or f2 at best
