Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Still need a gamebreaker. Someone who can rip a game apart from midfield and or forward.

That's the unicorn if he reaches his potential. The questions are 1) will he get there and 2) if so, how often will he do that ripping apart thingy, because he won't be doing it every game

Our effort at the draft only last year was the most telling signal to me that we have absolutely no ******* idea what we are doing. Taking a project WAFL defender over literally ANY of the the quality tall young forwards still on the table was one of the single dumbest draft decisions we’ve made in a long time and we’ve made heaps of ‘em.

Actually thought it was the perfect time to add another KPD to our list tbh.

Ignoring the other weaknesses on our list of course.

JOM to HFF playing upfield. I think he has linked up ok. Just not fitting in well with centre clearances.

Given our situation with Jackson, Knobel and Reidy on the list, hypothetically if someone came for Darcy would we look at it…

if the rumours of Naughton wanting to come home are true, would Darcy be enough or would we need more? Three way trade him with someone…

or

Do we use the currency to get multiple high picks and fill the gaps.

onions is about the only one with currency I could stand giving up tbh

Our midfield is already crap, imagine selling the player who projects to be the best ruck in the AFL just to risk it all on Jackson putting it all together

I don't see that type of player in him. I think he could be a dominant ruckman because he could expose 95% of ruckman at ground level, but he ain't doing that with Darcy around.

I think he will be a good player for us but we sacrificed pick 13 and probably a top 8 pick this season. Invest those two into the forwardline and we are one step closer to the premiership.

By the time those picks would have developed into a good forward you would hope/expect Jackson to be at/around his peak anyway. Same amount of waiting.

Yes but at the cost of our forwardline. We made a choice to invest into a midfielder when we have a bottom 5 forwardline.

If the price of Jackson will be considered to be the best possible outcome for a first round pick then he will never live up to it.

Last five drafts.
2022 no first, obviously
2021 Amiss, Erasmus
2020 Chapman
2019 Young, Serong, Henry

Now, we would bite the hands off to trade Amiss, Young and Serong for the draft picks they were taken with to have them in our squad. Put another way to avoid confusion, we would trade #6, #7 and #8 to get Amiss, Young and Serong.

Chapman I think would also fall into that category but he is more in the draft pick range we traded last year for Jackson.

Erasmus and Henry, right at this point, if we were offered picks #9 and #10 for them both we would consider it, certainly Henry for #9 even though it didn't cost us that.

I want our first round picks to work out, every one, but they don't all go on to be stars. They don't all go on to be serviceable players.

The cheapest you get elite talent is at the draft. It's still a lottery ticket.
