Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

I didn’t see a lot of him at Christchurch but what I did see you describe well. The game I did see they were dominant so he just floated around. The highlights I saw of his Claremont colts he was more close checking.

He did get towelled up by Jefferson. There was at least 1-2 goals where another KPD was on him and one of his teammates gave away a fifty. Jefferson looks like a good leading forward and the structure for WA in that game was a very open backline.

Watching him at Peel he is more lock down to the eye. As you say he has a lot of work to do in that area but doesn’t look out of place. Was average against Perth but I though he was ok aside from a touch of fumbles against SF. The weight of 90kg is a little deceiving but he is quite weak around the core and struggles to hold ground in one on one contests. I haven’t seen a lot of the intercept marks as yet so I find that promising to be honest. So far underwhelming but not too bad. Just my opinion based on what I’ve seen at Peel is he looks more like APearce. But maybe it is the fumbles that has given me that impression. I reckon he will be fine. He also looks like he would be more at home with an Xbox or studying maths.
I defer to you, never seen him play at Peel but I do know that he can kick and wasn't known for defending as a junior (i.e. Anti-Pearce). I'm glad to see they are teaching him to defend at Peel! Also suspect its probably why he doesn't look that impressive down there (not playing to his strengths yet).
Rumour is when he brings a girl over he gets his rhythm from this

The **** is that?

JVR was rated around our third pick. Which is about where he went. Erasmus and Johsnon were rated around pick 10. And erasmus would've been taken by then too. Get over it.
And in a hypothetical scenario if we took JVR at 10 ,Erasmus will be drafted to a top 8 club.... JVR will still be playing for Peel OR playing for Dockers with out any goals as the ball movement and supply from midfield and our forward system is different from Melbourne. At the same time Erasmus will be killing it in the AFL for a top 8 club kicking 1-2 goals , having 20+possessions and decent amount of tackles every week.. So we will be melting in that scenario as well.

Anyone know anything about this fella?

I was talking him up last year for a while but he was very ordinary in the Colts prelim which put me off a bit. I was still pushing him up for a rookie spot for us though. He gave me the same vibes that I got from watching Shai Bolton in the 18's. Definitely got talent and in an area we need it. So glad that we're keen.

Watch a team already choc full of good forwards take him the pick before us!

SVR has the same body shape as his
brother.
Definitely going to be a unit too.

Don't worry, we don't use the mid season draft on anyone good anyway.

Starting to think I wouldn’t mind that second pick in the Mid Season Draft tbh. If we don’t use it then so be it but having I’d be nice to have it available.

Can we put Taberner on the Inactive List? Last year I feel we would’ve been able to but this year the AFL has stated they’ll tighten the rules.

I disagree that JVR was a reach at ten and I always rated Johnson higher than Erasmus. We could have gotten:
Amiss (8) JVR (10) and Johnson (21).
But you seem to have watched more of Erasmus than me and Walls and co seem to agree so I'll take your word for it. I'll support him and hopefully he'll become the player we want him to!
All this talk about we should have gotten two forwards, have you all seen our midfield or what? We are crying out for a bloke like Erasmus to provide some grunt and stability to a midfield that lacks size. Erasmus is exactly the kind of player we most need right now, and people are saying drafting him is a mistake; talk about recency bias.

What sucks is that Ras plays a role that is going to require 3 to 4 pre-seasons before he is physically ready for it. I have no doubt that Ras will force his way in soon and won't leave it once he's in.

Cerra out and Mundy probably going into his last season. We 100% needed two inside mids. Who could’ve predicted what Brodie did last year either?

In hindsight we needed two KPFs as well but I honestly thought Treacy looked pretty damn decent year one.

FWIW I didn’t think JVR was first round quality at the time largely due to his speed and agility seemingly not being at the level of the elite KPFs (the exception would be guys 200cm tall which JVR isn’t). Amiss is a fantastic athlete as well as a fantastic footballer. A large amount of this board won’t want to admit it but most of the best players in the league aren’t one or the other - they’re both.

I think a good start (noting this season will likely be gone within a few weeks) would be for Amiss, Sturt, Erasmus, Johnson and Treacy (maybe Draper and Worner) to play every game from here on. We need to find out this year whether these guys have what it takes, and we're not finding that out at Peel. If Fyfe is not playing (either with us or at all) then he doesn't play either. As for the coaches, Longmuir has ten weeks to prove he has a game plan that wins games of footy, otherwise we make the change. The way we are playing, including the lack of confidence, is so far off what we saw in today's game it's almost inconceivable.

Took LDU a few years to have an impact so if Ras follows that path he’ll be fine I guess.

Yep. Good post.

The difference is that he would be playing straight up like Brayshaw, Cerra, etc, if we were starting from the bottom.
Obviously we were expecting top 8 minimum.
Reality will soon sink in and it will all be about next year.
AFL is brutal, and we got ahead of ourselves, it’s happened to plenty of teams.
It’s how we respond that matters.

AFL players have the following

*Talent
*Drive
*Athelticism
*Footy nous

The role players have one or two of those, the good players have 2 or 3, the elite ones have all of them.

Don’t mind that - a score out of 10 for each of those categories to rate a player.
For example
AB -
5/10
10/10
8/10
8/10
For a total of 31

BB-
4/10
6/10
5/10
5/10
For a total of 20

Etc

I’d argue that if you’re only 1 or 2 out of 10 for any of these you’re reasonably unlikely to be a good player.

I probably thought JVR was around a 2 out of 10 for athleticism (i.e. terrible) tbh when he was probably more a 5 (i.e. about average). He had an illness in his draft year.

Outside of perhaps saying Amiss has more talent I’ve never questioned JVR’s football ability.

The List Management team need to visit Brisbane and work out how they stopped losing players, and started bringing them in.
Well since COVID there was a trend of a lot of people moving from Vic/NSW to Southern Queensland. It has become a lifestyle destination for many.
Unfortunately never gonna happen in ol' perf. We can only compete for homesick west australians.
