Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

What has happened to Treacy ? Is he on the out or not fit or not AFL standard or still to young .I had real high hopes for him
I tried to suggest him being named ahead of Banfield or even Taberner on BF a few times, but kept getting shouted down because he had an average game week 1 and he and Amiss were too young to carry the forward line.

I still maintain a forward line with Amiss, Sturt and Treacy is a winning forward line.

The caveat being we're kicking it to the leading player and not bombing it into a 3 on 1. And all 3 of those do lead to the kicker.

Man, there’s like 3 people on here that will support Banfields inclusion, I really don’t think you would be “shouted down” lol.

Can hardly get a kick at WAFL level..

That is not quite true; the last three games he has had:

6 disposals, 3, marks, 4 tackles, 1 HO, 1 goals 2 points (South Freo)
17 disposals, 9 marks, 1 tackle, 11 HO, 1 goal (Perth)
18 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 13 HO, no goals. (East Freo)

If you wanted to be super-critical, you could say that he is not kicking goals at WAFL level, but then if you watch the games, until the last game he was spending at least 40-50% in the ruck, and the rest of the time he has been playing a high centre half forward as a link man, in the same role as Jackson is playing at AFL level. This is evidenced by the higher number of disposals, the HOs and the smaller number of shots on goals.

Against South Fremantle he moved into more of a full forward position and had more shots on goal and more tackles in a losing team and losing midfield. The two points could have been two more goals and he would have had three goals for the game which again in a losing team would have been acceptable.

I think the real issue for Treacy has been the positions that he is competing for. We are tending towards a full forward (started the season as Fyfe, currently Amiss), a ruck / centre half forward (Luke Jackson) as our preferred tall setup and a high flanking forward (Started the season as Taberner, currently Sturt) who is either a tall or a medium.

Until last week Treacy has very much been playing the ruck / centre half forward role and IMO playing it pretty well, but Jackson has also been thereabouts as well and is a lot fitter and more athletic. If they continue him in the role against South Fremantle then IMO he is competing against Amiss and given that that is probably his best shot at getting in. I think they have liked what they have got with Sturt over the last three games as he is bringing more pressure than Treacy could at ground level and a lot more speed so he will have a tougher time pushing him out (Corbett coming in and then immediately out shows that will be difficult for him to win the flanking position). I still maintain that his best chance is waiting for either Jackson or Darcy to go down, and then he will get a role in his preferred position.

If Tabs was available would he be backed in? To me this is the problem, JLo won’t
change things around.
Jackson could be played like Blicavs at Geelong. We are getting burned midfield
and Luke isn’t yet a reliable forward option.
Treacy can play down the spine, and I’d even play him in Ryan’s position.
How many guys can you play that are hampered by injury?
Even pinch hit him in the ruck with Jackson, team is lacking size and physicality.
Cox also comes into consideration for a dual role.
Team needs to light a fuse, and players like Treacy, Erasmus as sub at least
should be given a proper go.
It’s like the call for Johnson, everyone can see the reward except the coaches?

He isnt going to play Forward/ruck over jackson

Why does Treacy have to be a ruck? Can he not just be a leading forward. Is it possible that he is not being played to his strengths? Are we Fremantling him ? I'd hate to see the young fella leave because of mismanagement .

I actually think it is the reverse; he is being played as a CHF/Ruck because that is the best use of his superior endurance and long kick.

I just don't see why we're not giving him an extended run in the 1sts to gel with Amiss and Sturt.

He's shown enough at AFL level so far in his career IMO to be given a chance
Because he had an extended run in the seconds with them and showed nothing unless he was playing time in the ruck.

I like Treacy and think he's got what it takes to be at the very least top quality depth for us but the thing that erks me about him is the way he runs around giving advice to every other player around him. Encouragement is good, but for a 20yo that's learning the caper himself it comes across from the outside as arrogance to be telling others how to play and what they should be doing. Come back to earth mate, and put all your focus on getting your own game up to the desired level.

This. Treacy has the one thing that Amiss doesn't have. He can kick a set shot from outside 50. He needs to sit at CHF with Amiss at FF. I can see a strong forward line with Treacy, Amiss and Sturt as the 3 talls. But like you say, it probably doesn't work while Jackson and Darcy are both playing.

Agree, trying to squeeze Jackson, Treacy and Amiss into the one forward line doesn’t work, I’d advocate for Jackson to spend more time up the ground as a mid/Wing with spurts as the Ruck, just like Blicavs at the cats, reckon he’d be more dangerous drifting forward with a mismatch on an opposition mid/wing than a full time back.
Which allows us to play Treacy and Amiss as the tall forwards.

We need to just bite the bullet and go Sturt, Treacy and Amiss in the forward line, with Jackson rotating forward. Fyfe can come in at some point if he remains fit and stays out of their way in the forward line. Yeah, they will be inexperienced but they will grow into it and get some cohesion working with each other. Shultz, Swita and Freddy can be the smalls. Let's build for a premiership window around 2025/26. If, for some crazy reason, a champion KPF comes available in the next few years (Naughton) we can look at it then. Likewise, if for some reason a champion small becomes available we can look at it too.

Tabs - too injured and not that great when he gets a go at it.
Banfield - honest worker but we know what we're going to get from him.
Walters - will go down as one of the best dockers ever but only gets played if he can kick goals and lock the ball inside 50.

If Fyfe is fit, he'll need to go straight back into the midfield.
He was in there in the last few years (when fit) and it hasn't worked. I'm just not sure he has the defensive capabilities for the midfield, at this stage, or the cohesion to work with Serong, Brayshaw and Brodie. I actually reckon the place for him when he comes back would be the wing. If he could provide a lead and mark down the line, that would definitely be valuable. He'd have to get himself super fit though. (Which is a question mark).

Good on the kid!!!! Theres no leadership being shown by any of the coachs at the moment

DGB still contracted til end of next year so would cost too much, pure speculative pick now

That entirely depends on personal circumstances when he isn't getting a game. Not playing and really unhappy away from home, cheap trade still.

DGB and Brockman.
