Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

We will essentially have nobody thirty or older contracted beyond this season when round one comes along unless Walters extends in preseason like last year.

I agree he looked miles off AFL standard for most of the season. Undoubtedly very talented and I thought showed it in the last 2 or three games.

Will have to be a flanker at AFL level due to lack of core strength and a knack for bodying opponents. Means a further lift in running and defensive intent even over what he showed in his improved phase at the end of the season.

Can make it ar AFL if he can bring the effort as he is so tall and athletic he'd be a nightmare for the 6th defender.

You know, I read the discussion about Kozzie Picket and I think my price I'd be comfortable with if it happened would be like pick 10, then I remember that I was always confident Adelaide should and would give up at least their pick 5 for Rankine and that I also rate Pickett higher than Rankine and struggle to reconcile those two scenarios. Is this just a classic BF "dont pay much when they pick you" type thing or is Rankine worth more than Pickett?

Probably about the same. Reckon Rankine has generational talent but Pickett has actually done something.

If he went to a team with pick 10, that's about all they'd get though. Maybe a little more.

I'd argue Rankine would've performed better than Pickett if they were both at the same club but who knows, probs worth about the same

Rankings potential looks anything I think that's why people would pay up

Rankine knows he could be one of the best players in the comp. Pickett wants to be one of the best players in the comp.

I don't think Pickett has much more ceiling to climb as a small forward playing in a team that plays a style to bring the smalls into the game because their talls aren't dominant.

I think Rankine has a lot of room to improve further.

Not a fan of Rankine at all. Strikes me as the type that will tease fans his entire career without ever really satisfying them. Big risk by Adelaide to pay pick 5 and $800k to a guy like that. He’s not a very physical player either so I’m dubious how influential he can really be in the midfield.
They certainly aren’t paying that price for him to be a 10 disposal a game small forward.

Have to disagree here. Seemed like it all clicked for him last year and he’s worked out how good he can be if he has fun with it. I think he’s scary good.

I feel like the Rankine hype exceeds his talent at the moment. Yes, he's good, but he isn't great ......yet.

He reminds me of Dustin Martin when everyone raved about his elite talent that he would display for a quarter or half, only to then go missing for the rest of the game. He's one big preseason away from developing his tank and body to be able to break tackles and be more impactful.

Haven’t we done exactly the same thing with Jackson

We paid way overs on what he produced last year , a low possession, low hit out back up ruck who can’t mark the ball

I was all for getting him but it could easily end up as a disappointing trade

Really good question. I have no idea. The length of the contract would concern me more than the $. Anything more than two years would be an error IMO.

Surely Fyfe and his contract are an issue for much later in the year.

The other aspect to the discussion is what his role will be given we have Erasmus and Johnson sitting in the waiting room for a midfield opportunity, and a number of lads looking for some chances in the forward line.

I'm not suggesting we wouldn't want Fyfe. But there is a bit of depth to the discussion about him.
