Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Let's look at it from the other side. What would need to happen out of the likes of Switkowski, Schultz, Frederick to make the acquisition of Pickett gilding the lily?

I'd like to remove the reality that the tall forwards will dictate how the smalls perform but it's not possible. Melbourne could have Tom McDonald back and taking marks, taking shots at goal and the Melbourne smalls suddenly look to be under performing their previous highs.

There's plenty of scope for Pickett to improve though. Even just with consistency. But building a bigger tank is something that often comes only with seasoning.

There is plenty of scope for his fitness to improve his 'apparent work rate' to the likes of Schultz where he will absolutely blow Lachie out of the water on output.

Kid seems to have jumped the shark but I'll withhold judgement until he's played a bit this year after a solid pre-season. Jury is still out.
full of confidence...love to see him deliver ...been there before with sonson.

coaches are backing him in...I like it

You really think Bob Murphy is blowin smoke?

Pickett has back to back 40 goal seasons after only 3 years in this league. Who even was the last guy to kick 40 for us?

I'd take Kozi over any of our small forwards every day of the week, easily.

Same stat as Jesse Hogan.

"Excuses" is not really a thing. They're either factors impacting or they're not, which can be logically made a case for either way along with whatever evidence there might be.

He asked why I don’t like him

Soon as he’s not taking up a spot on Freo’s list I wish Liam nothing but a happy life

I have been waving my pom poms up and down for him for a while now. He is the perfect replacement for Walters and would instantly place us in top 3 conversations. The main reason I had against trading for Jako is that I wanted the draft capital this year to land him.

We have depth, and I would prefer trades to include players from areas of depth. Pickett in a trade for Lobb or Logue for example, balanced with lesser picks. This year I could see an unlikely but plausible scenario where Henry, Sturt, Treacy or Brodie request a trade.

On some level the club agrees with you given we have Stubbs training.

Can you imagine having a talented son playing juniors and this guy approaches you with his card. Would you trust him with your son’s future.

This guy.

Lack of innate competitiveness is not specific enough
Well "innate" competitiveness is an adjustment from your post above that adds some specificity. (I reckon you made a accidental omission from your last sentence in that post that changes the tone of the post significantly)

A key point being made upon your entry to this topic is the lack of observable evidence for dislikes (and tone thereof) though. "Excuses" is a thing that sounds like it has some evidence feel to it, but really it's a deflection.

I'm struggling with these photos (besides their inherent offensiveness). Does this guy work in an abattoir? Did he hire a corner office in the city for the purpose of ruining a cheap suit sitting in a bath?

Personally I think there is only one spot on the list and that’s Walters.
But that won’t happen till 2024, and I think Henry is impatient.
The reality is he doesn’t tick enough boxes at this stage to play wing.
Another way of looking at it is that Bolton goes into the centre for minutes
Then back forward, similar to Sonny at his best, wing is a specialist position.

We are covered for running KPF’s but we are defo missing a true tall target man who operates 3.5-4 m above the ground , Tabs does all right owning the drop zone but he’s not much of a jump at the highest point type

Unless one of the rucks we drafted or Jacko surprises it going to hurt our chances this year and into the future , it’s all well and good to say move the ball quicker but it’s the AFL so you are doing a good job to do that without slitting your own throat

Agree. As I said, not desperate for any KPF.

A slightly different type of KPF as long as they’re high quality would still add quite a bit to the list though.

Honestly though Reidy until a year or so ago was mainly a forward who rucks a bit. The club probably thinks they can develop Knobel in that way too.

L.Serong at this stage is clearly too short for the type of forward you describe. I see he’s done some defence at training - I’d still be happy enough to add him if he’s got that flexibility.

Same goes for small forwards imo. We’ve got plenty of them but it’s clear we lack a natural goal scoring small forward. Not sure Richmond really had one in their premierships though. They had more forward/mids similar to Walters/Switta and pressure forwards similar to Schultz/Frederick imo.

For me when looking at our list we have 30-32 players easily capable of playing good AFL footy. I was never concerned with the numbers of our depth. It’s just whether we can replace a few select structurally important players on our list. There’s one at each end that look like they don’t have someone to replace them and they’re perhaps the two most injury prone players on our list.

The last 5-6 spots on your list of 42 (i.e. excluding Cat B rookies) can be used to develop players for the future. Providing short term depth for the best 22 is probably out of the equation at this stage. Unless we think Stubbs is best 30-32 straight away, I hope we go for the highest potential out of Stubbs and L.Serong tbh.
