Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Agree with the long term sentiment. Serong would’ve been perfect to just try at Peel, develop and gain muscle. KPF is never negative gain. It’s a must.
After all Tabs was a Rookie Pick, same as Treacy.

He’d be behind Treacy, Kuek, Corbett, Sturt, Emmett and Banfield, not to mention the rucks Reidy and Knobel who will rotate through the forward line, even Draper thinks he’s more a forward than a defender, so Liam would be lining up for the reserves at peel.

There's going to be space on the rookie list at year's end.

Treacy and Banfield coming into their third season meaning they'll more than likely be upgraded.

Whoever we draft in the MSD probably has a free pass to 2024, if they didn't already.

My personal view is from the players' perspective
These 2 blokes were essentially teased with a spot, then that spot was taken away

Huh?

every year tens of thousands of uni students do vacation work aligned to their degree hoping to get a job at that employer as a result. Most of them don’t.

they do get valuable experience and the chance to get the job if they’re good enough.

same thing with apprentices and lots of others. You must have led a very fortunate life.

Is there a reality that Treacy has knocked back our contact offers ?
Maybe betting on himself to earn more? Or he wants to move back to Vic ?

My take is he’s already sighed on and loves it in perth but clubs just waiting for the right time to release..

Rumors have been he will move back to Vic if he doesn't get many opportunities this season.

Treacy is training and playing with a lot of commitment, he appears to be bent on taking a big step forward in 2023.

We have no idea what his future plans are regarding the rumours about moving back to Victoria are but there has been very little indication he is not happy here.

Given some luck on the injury front and continued decent form I can see him being a valuable member of our squad (and hopefully a regular in the team) this season. The future will look after itself and he will get a decent contract with Freo hopefully.

Treacy is at the stage of his career where he needs to be playing AFL or his career is in trouble. He needs to cement himself as an AFL player, if he misses a season of games after this year he would be a rookie selected tall with less than fifty games and no big break out games playing at a non-Victorian and non-noticed club.

If he were a first round pick it would be a different story. I want him to have a long career with us but I will have zero bad feelings towards Josh if he doesn't get a chance here in 2023 and another club will offer him security and game time.

He is one season away from being paid over two and a half million over the following four years.

His career is dancing on that knife edge, but I like what he brings so I expect him to have at least a four goal game for Fremantle in 2023.

I think one of Amiss or Treacy should be playing every week. Maybe both when Tabs is injured.

I suppose the issue is finding that spot. Lobb = Jackson spot, Fyfe = Logue spot. I assume injuries will bob up though. I think we need to be giving Treacy at least 10 games to keep him interested or early and sign him up mid season.

We have to keep in mind Tabs is turning 30 this year. We are going all in to a premiership and we have to gamble on Tabs being our no.1 KPF.

Here's a question, are us or even WC ever going to be in a position where we can recruit big names not from WA like Brisbane have been able to? It's pretty insane that over the course of like 5 years, they've been able to bring in Neale, Daniher and Dunkley. Dont forget it wasnt too long ago they had the "go home 5" or whatever it is so are we ever a chance of having that pulling power or is that an East Coast / non football state thing?

Plus Cameron.

I don't think so. A lot of players like not being noticed in NSW and QLD, compared to SA, WA and Victoria.

The best we could do is maybe an SA player, who is leaving a local club like Shaun Burgoyne.

I'd agree, feels like just one of the other disadvantages we have to deal with, fishbowl state with footy mad public. They probably get an added advantage over Sydney where the cost of living is lower is as well. Brisbane seem to get the best of all worlds

I've only seen the headline online and not reead the article, but isn't there something in the West today where Bell says we're now a destination club? I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we landed a medium sized fish

think so, but also think we need to manage a bit of both; it'd be horrible to see Treacy leave before he hits his stride and does so elsewhere.....I'm sure some situations like injuries will open it up (unforch)

Hmmm, I'd have to see it to believe it. Depends on what you mean by medium sized I suppose? I dont think we could get better than a Brodie / Aish from another club which might be a good thing I suppose since you can get a lot of value there.

I'm probably in the minority here but I'd be playing Treacy in the AFL side this year and giving Amiss another year of development at Peel, keeping in mind that he will definitely get AFL games throughout the year due to Tabs/Fyfe availability.

He's still got a slender frame and is a 2nd year key FWD, he has plenty of AFL ahead of him and another year in and out of the AFL side won't hinder him.

Treacy brings great pressure for a key FWD and can also chop out in the ruck. He's also more of a contested marking FWD than Tabs and Amiss and brings a different edge to the FWD line.

My ideal FWD line would be

Freddy Treacy Fyfe
Shultz Tabs Sturt

Switta off the bench, **** knows though Jackson will rotate through there but I have no idea how they plan to use him

I'm with you. And with those other players around him that is an excellent development environment.

I get the Amiss hype and agree he is the better player, but we need both.

Weren't we close to Angus ;-) ?
Nah, seriously, bigger than Brodie/Aish. I'm not saying we'l get a Brownlow medallist, but we could legitimately get a bona fide A grader that wants out of his club for some reason - a Larkey/Balta/Maynard level player. Does Pickett count as non WA? Then Pickett.

I never got around to watching that, surprised there wasnt more talk on "players are expressing interest in playing for us"

That's a pretty nice little tidbit because you wouldnt think that's something he'd lie about

Haha touche, I actually forgot about him but even if we had got him I dont think I could fully count that as the same as Neale, Daniher or Dunkley moving to Brisbane with absolutely no onnection whatsoever.

I reckon we can count Pickett if we somehow make that happen

We did just get JOM who is definitely better than both Brodie and Aish.

Edit* I just went back and read the thread properly - apologies!
