Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Just be thankful we didn’t hand over the North Melbourne second round pick for Jeremy sharp.
We ought to be death riding North this season as fans as it’s our first pick in the draft as things stand
They were never traded that for sharp that’s why it never got done.

Think they’ll definitely go back in for him this year tho

Maybe we could rehabilitate Tarryn Thomas when he gets delisted by North.
Bring him over and let him be mentored by Walters. High risk high reward style?

If you're willing to take him and his $700,000 contract for next season on I think you could get North to pay you to do it.

They should, but I think the mental illness card will come out.
He seems like an absolute flog but maybe we could get him to grow up a bit, he would add some nice X factor to what is probably the blandest list in the competition right now at Fremantle.
We have very few players that get you out of your seat with excitement.
A bit like Geelong with Tyson Stengle - with no first round picks it’s taking a risk on flawed mavericks like this that are the best chance of a result.

C'mon, we're not talking about a party animal that likes to get on the gear and is a bit wayward. This is DV territory that should be a complete no-no. May as well get Elijah Taylor.

Yeah you guys are right the DV issue is hard to look past. Don’t know much about Elijah Taylor but if he’s kept his head down in the last 2 years and got back on the straight and narrow there is something to be said for giving him a second chance if he earned it.
Rehabilitation has got to provide rewards if someone earns it I guess… interesting debate inthe AFL context.

Even losing Tucker was a stuff up last year - he would have been a very serviceable wing option compared to what we currently have available to us so far this season.

I don't think gifting games to a state league player in Darcy Tucker, making our team actively worse, would have been a good idea.

There is a shitload of revisionist history going on on this board right now. Do people really think the key to us being a good team vs a bad team is Blake Acres and Rory Lobb? If Acres and Lobb had gone down with injury last year would we seriously have been a significantly worse team? Of course not.

The issue at the moment clearly isn't even personnel - footy has a bit of "je ne sais quoi" about it and currently the team synergy is a bit off. I honestly think it's very fixable, but we'd better get on the right wavelength sooner rather than later or else the season will slip away. Whether the buck stops with the coach or not is a matter for personal opinion but as Ross used to say, things are never as good or as bad as they seem

Is the assumption that it hasn't activated until the club reports it?

I believe AFL contract trigger clauses in regards to extensions are triggered by the player with the only involvement of the club in terms of selection for number of games played if that is what leads to the clause triggering.

I believe both Conca and Matera had trigger clauses in their contracts for extensions if they played a specific number of games in their time, and their non-selection could have something to do with that..
I don't know how it works, all I know is that as it stands he is an unrestricted free agent on the AFL's list

I agree on the Tucker thing but we definitely win the North game with Lobb and possibly the Saint Kilda game as well. We can hate on the guy all we like but he'd have taken 2 or 3 marks in the forward 50 in each of those games given how much we are getting in there.

I'm hoping the cull last year is a blessing in disguise. Yes Lobb, Tucker, Logue and Acres would make us more competitive now but I'm not convinced they would have brought us closer to a premiership. They were flaky as f*%k. And apart from Logue, were all at the back ends of their career.

This year we need to test our depth and young players and see whether Sturt, Henry, Worner, Erasmus, Johnson, Treacy etc are good enough. They may not have got that opportunity otherwise.

Although the start to the season is a complete clusterfu*^, there is opportunity to turn it into a positive. We have glaring issues with our ball movement and forward line. If finals are out of contention, I hope we change things up and start looking to the future. We've still got a very young and quality list. I'm hoping we can launch in 2024 if it doesn't click this year.

Collingwood fans probably thought it was the end of the world in 2021 when they traded out a future first (pick 2) and got rid of Trealor, Stephenson and Phillips for peanuts. Yes, they got Daicos but their success is pretty much driven by the same list.

Pies were kissed on the dick when they blew pick 2 by getting Naicos though

How many of our flawed mavericks worked out? We would have to take his drivers license off him for a start.

I think our first round pick, which will go to the Dees will be Duursma.
Watching him dominate is going to be a bitter pill to swallow.
Freo have to take credit, and the two premierships before 2025 for Melbourne
Only proves that they were saved be the bell.

Our recruiting since ~2010 and list management since 2015 has been the worst in our history. Even pre-1999 was only five years of bad drafts. So many burned picks, mistaken big name trades and questionable releases of players. Makes what happened under Schwab look measured and reasonable in comparison.

Is Phil Smart still around? Can we get him back?
