Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

I cannot overstate how much we need to draft a high pick small forward. We need one this season but don't have the capital. Surely if there is one we like we trade our future first to get into this draft. Pick up Brockman as well and we will be setup for the future.

Yeah they cut us up with handball.

It's extremely common for teams to move the ball up the field through their tall marking targets when they have their options closed down because that one on one can't be zoned off or out worked, if the tall is good, the mark is taken and the game moves 50m toward goal.

Carlton just did it then with Curnow on the wing. WC did it all the time with one of Kennedy and Darling marking on the wing and then the other inside fifty.

I think you do if you want a fast, ready to go, goal kicker - but if you can afford to wait you can get that player later with baggage.

All I want is a small forward that actually kicks goals on the regular. Don't care what we have to spend to get one in either.

So we going to ignore that Switta is not a small forward, Walters is getting old and Schultz is only as good as his hard work? We need more speedy natural goal kickers. The draft is a lottery but you are more likely to win in the first round.

And the way to achieve that is for Josh Treacy to train with the mids over preseason, not to play as a mid, but so he can work his ring off getting up the field - dragging a defender with him and marking on the wing before belting back towards forward fifty.

Yep. And that's where pies are strong ATM..quick transition from back half...sure our forwards would do just fine if they had this. Instead our backs are slow as molasses..let's them set up their defense's then bomb it on their heads

As harsh as it is you’ve got to look at goals kicked as a KPI for a small forward. On that metric, our smalls aren’t that good, regardless of pressure applied.

Brisbanes smalls of Cameron, Bailey, McCarthy, Gunston, and Raynor have kicked 120 goals, freos smalls of Walters, Freddy, Switta, banfield, and Shultz have kicked 80.

If the option was there to replace Shultz, Freddy, banfield or Switta with someone better - I would take it.

The Pies were quite vulnerably out of position at the stoppage if the ball came out clean against them. That's why when we were dominant it looked good.

It's simple footy and easier said than done but if you win the contest and don't turn it over you'll beat the Pies.

We turn it over and roll over in the contest for periods.

We need class around the goals. Plain and simple. I don’t care if they’re Big or Small but we need more. Jye and Sonny are the only two we have.

For once I agree with you. Case in point 2nd quarter. No forward line can score from that

You have to be looking for midfielders every year and players that might be able to play midfield don't (or shouldn't) count.

I agree the midfield is the main problem at the moment but I am also pretty sure that even if they were firing, the forwards wouldn't be kicking 20 goals per week.

I guess the difference is at least we have Ras and Johnno who might help long term with that whereas up forward we have nobody of any note not already playing and Sonny due for retirement within a few years.

We need to take the best available non-defender, non-vanilla midfielder (i.e. have some burst or goal kicking ability, gun kick etc) this year and keep our first and 2nd rounder. I can't take another year of being dog**** having traded our picks.

Pickett also plays midfield minutes, our coaches don’t have multiple setups.
Apparently during the preseason we practice Plan A.
But what if it’s not on our terms? It’s just not fair.
