Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Treacy, Amiss, Jackson is plenty of tall talent ahead of the ball.

If we lose Darcy we need a journeyman ruckman. 300-400k bang and crash type.

I hope we don’t lose Darcy. We need to hold onto talent, not lose it.

Not sure you need two elite KPFs tbh. Outside of Geelong who actually has two elite KPFs? Maybe Carlton but they’re not even in the eight.

Naughton or McDonald would cost us as much as Luke Jackson did.

I’m not against bringing in players like Brockman for second rounders if they fill a position we need help in. We’ve had our big trade - I’m not sure trading multiple first round picks for players overly regularly is a great idea tbh.
Tigers had for 19, 20 (Tom and jack)

Cats you've mentioned

Eagles in 18 (jk and darling)

Hawks for their threepeat (Gunston and roughy)

Those are the ones where both could be considered "elite" in the last 10 years

People do we seriously think we need to bring in another KPF? Our forwardline has not been the issue this year. Amiss, Jackson and Treacy are a very formidable trio that will cause many problems for the opposition in the future. We should sink all our draft capital into drafting an elite small forward and half forward.

Aaron Naughton would cost nearly twice as much as Luke Jackson currently does.

There is better value out there.
And to be honest, isn’t the same or the much hyped player he is. He’s actually easy to defend against. Just protect the zone in which he wants to jump at the ball, and his weapon is nullified. Jamarra is the better player these days tbh.

We have our forward line and rucks set with Darcy, Jackson, Treacy and Amiss.

I don't see us going for Naughton unless one of the above is leaving.
I can say with 95% certainty we are certainly going for Naughton, too many different people with different sauces have said so. Doesnt mean it's going to get anywhere. Jackson can play anywhere.

Is there any future firsts and seconds we have. Can’t see how it’ll work, unless trade out other commodity- Henry perhaps.

Wouldnt necessarily be this year, I agree we dont have the capital this year, even trading Henry. It would require losing Cox or Darcy which I dont want to do. I also dont think we'll get him and I think he's very money orientated which on history, would not go well for us.

But the club definitely is trying to bring in another KPF, probably so they can play Jackson more in the middle

It seems like the last 8 years has been 2 steps forward 2 steps back.

There is a list of the player still playing at another club in the last 7 years. Best 22

2022 - Logue, Lobb, Acres
2021 - Cerra
2020 - Hogan
2019 - B Hill, Langdon
2018 - Neale
2017 - Weller

We are averaging 1.5 best 22 players leaving each year.
Find it somehow strange and bewildering that the list gets younger every year and Bell and management expects the team to make top 4 finals.

Wilson, Colyer, Hamling, Sturt delisted/moved on, the age profile drops again.
8 years of rebuilding and the team is still younger then it was

Rather go after the WA guys in Van Rooyen or McDonald.
Naughton and Amiss would absolutely not go well together.

Was more talking about now and what we're liking going to need to get past in 3-5 years.

Also think you're being kind of generous to Darling and Gunston. Good players yes but would they succeed as the no. 1 at an AFL club. Guess we'll never really know but my guess is no.

But he brings the ball to ground and competes for everything in the air so would bring our small forwards even more into the play and make them more damaging. Put it this way, would our mids coming out of the centre or back like Young and Clarke prefer kicking to Naughton or a half forward line of Walters, Shultz and Frederick.

Think you're being harsh on them!

Darling kicked 500

Gunston kicked 400 but played in defense over his career as well

Those are great returns for kpfs nowadays

If Liam Henry leaves, which is looking likely. Who the * takes responsiblity?
Acres, Henry, Logue etc etc
Losing too many good players, never going anywhere
Including last year's moves to those in previous years (and a hypothetical Henry move) feels wrong. In the past, we've lost best 22 players that we offered the world to but wanted to leave for various reasons anyways (B Hill, Langdon, Neale, Cerra). The only player who left last year that somewhat fits in that category is Lobb, and honestly good riddance. Everyone else (Acres, Logue, Meek, Tucker) left for opportunities and/or because we didn't value them as much as their current clubs did (and of those, really only acres feels like we misvalued, even though he's still a butcher with the ball).

Henry would be annoying because we committed to him in many facets. Honestly I think he stays, and is just doing his due diligence in waiting until the end of the season. Idk when the deal we offered him was tabled, but him and his manager know that his stock has only risen since the bye. Others have mentioned that over the past month his trade value has risen: of course he's gonna correspondingly want his contract value to rise.

While the best defenders were more concerned about Kennedy.

He hasn't been so good as the main man.

Gunston had Roughead and Hale in the same team for 2/3 premierships. In the third there was an alright forward named Franklin as well.

Even with Hale most oppositions couldn’t put their third tall defender on him without giving up 10cm. Gunston would’ve got the third best tall a lot in those flags tbh.

I have it on good authority he is leaving.
And you fellas saying "average players", look who is spudding it up at Freo last 4 weeks.
Plenty of spud like players in the last 4 losses
