Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

There is some crazy s**t happening with KPDs this year. Essendon and North have nothing. Is it crazy to believe they’d offer Hamling 500k for 3 years to get him to move? Aren’t paying anyone else
I don't think it's that crazy in context. Liam Jones was out of the game for a year, 31, and he still managed to get a three year deal on enough money to get free agent compensation.

Listening to SEN trade bell sounds like freo had a look at jade gresham, that’s kind of player they need

If Fremantle want to bring in a free agent and Cox/Darcy/Schultz isn't extended beyond 2024 then this might be the year to do it - but it would probably mean we don't have the money to extend those three existing players.

It's also possible that the offer for a player like Cox is too high to beat and he will absolutely go end of 2024 but there is zero interest from Adelaide or Port to pay the price in trade Freo would want this off season - so all parties know the outcome leading to the club buying the free agent with that money and no outcomes were impacted by adding the player now.

I would prefer keeping Cox next year, even if we are to lose him end of 2024, because I want to be as competitive as possible next year and Davies with an extra year of development will be better.

Yes I think if we have a FA target next year then Cox leaving as one isn't a big deal (in terms of picks). Struggle to think who that would be. All the obvious candidates are trades I think.

Having said that, if he's gone for sure (which I'm not convinced he is) then I think you can let him go, keep Hammer and try and expose Davies and/or Draper as much as possible next year. Don't reckon our demographics will have us in flag contention next year with or without Cox and Hammer is a pretty decent replacement.

Supposed crows board ITK saying Cox is almost a certainty to end up there this year or next. Do we have any progress on a contract for him?
Only reason Cox would go would be if he has had a massive change of heart about his place in the team. One of the only reasons that could be him not happy about shifting forward/becoming a swingman again.

With Cox it's one sides ITK vs another side's ITK. I'm less concerned about this one than other previous BF rumours.

Would be a disaster to lose Cox but if it’s on the cards I’d be hitting up the Hawks for Denver Granger-Barass as well as putting a stupid offer in front of Sam Taylor at GWS I think both out of contract end of next year.

If it's on the cards then we should probably, in all honesty, sell up a bit and look to mini rebuild as we'd have lost too many key pieces from the initial rebuild to realistically target 2025-2027 as our window. Trade Darcy, maybe Ryan (although I'd prefer him there as experience), perhaps Schultz. Go for more first rounders and fix our holes with long term options whilst keeping a hand in future drafts.

We won't be winning a flag any time soon if another key piece decides to leave.

Reports at the time said that he tore up his contract, and went to GWS on a fresh contract — the implication being that if he wanted to continue at AFL he had to take a massive pay cut.
My memory was that GWS took on his 1 year (and very high salary) in full for 2021. I just read an article about the confirmation that he would be traded from Freo to GWS and that article indicated that Freo may have to pay some of the year remaining salary. In the end they opted for lower draft pick knowing it would be used for matching (we had both Walker and Western).

See this article below which confirms Hogan was re-signed for a further year at the end of 2021 (which was the final year of his three year deal with Freo), and yes there were games based incentives for an extension with the Freo contract for 2021 which could trigger a further year.

Seriously though, Cox going this year would really make it hard to progress next year.
Didn't notice any difference when Hamling was in and Cox out. If anything we looked a bit better. Not saying Hamling is a better player, just that the mix looked better. .

Yeah I got that feel as well. Pearce/Hamling looked stronger defensively than Cox/Pearce. I don't think we lost anything ball movement wise either.

Fair enough. I was positive I'd seen at the time a quote either from Hogan or from his manager saying he was going to GWS on a new contract, but I can't track anything down, so I'll go with this version.

If Cox tells club - this year and Im off to Adelaide. We would have to trade him and demand a ransom payment.

If not we back ourselves in to re-sign.

With Hamling if Cox is traded we would surely have to offer 2 year contract. If Cox stays you would think Hamling goes and we would be some chance to band 4 but that is it. That is a handy pick 44 compo.

Mini rebuild????? Its what we have been doing for most of our history, bar a few years. Time to stop the rebuilds and step up and compete.

My point being that losing Cox on top of everything would be pretty devastating to our ability to do just that.

Cox is not going anywhere. Trust me.

He injured himself last pre-season while attempting to master skateboarding history. Brennan Cox wants to *in nail a 900 (made famous by Tony Hawk) by the 2025 Wagin Woolarama.

Sources close to him have confided in me he would not disrupt such attempts by frivolously moving to a new city. He refuses to leave his stable and supportive environment until he's mastered the 900, bringing joy to all. Sources claim his driven tenacity and athletic traits have grown considerably since wanting such a dream. There are even murmurs Cox’s skateboarding Everest proportion dream is far greater than a vast majority his AFL dreams. Outside of a Fremantle Dockers premiership or Luke Ryan winning a Norm Smith, Cox considers other hypothetical blissful moments as less meaningful accomplishment.

Cox’s camp believes his white whale can, and will, be achieved. Furthermore, they explicitly state Fremantle are the only place for this to occur. This feat cannot be done outside of Cockburn. After long, exhausting, and excruciating contract talks, Brennan has agreed to sign on with Fremantle. Accepting a significant pay cut, Cox was afforded many alternative luxuries. One such caveat being Peter Bell to accept and approve immediate plans for a foam pit to be installed on the far side of Cockburn Oval.

Previously so little has been done with the space, as they waited for the correct opportunity to utilise it. Fremantle had originally planned to create a cryogenic science lab as a way to harness innovational genetic abilities of former Stalwarts such as David Mundy, Stephen Hill, Nick Suban, Matthew Pavlich and Ryan Nyhuis. Additionally, Cox has refused any and all waterslide privileges until he at least nails a 720 (or a 480 on an actual half-pipe).

Former Fremantle 2013 Grand Final player (and owner of amazing hair whilst playing), Paul Duffield, has assisted Fremantle throughout the contract negotiations with the pavement-shredding defender. Superleg Duffield has swapped his 95% disposal efficiency to 95% good bloke status by allowing his property (a close proximity to Darkin) as a considerable bargaining chip. The south mid-west location of Darkin owns claim to one of the greatest half-pipes humanity ever witnessed. The Darkin legend, known locally for his record of kicking 45 goals from halfback in a game has used his community pull to give Cox a few private sessions during school holidays. Much to the chagrin of the greater Darkin community. After tense negotiations and free Cockburn waterslide/ vanilla slice passes to all Darkin locals, the community fully support the decision.

Cox hopes to pull the 900 off for the first time at the 2024/5 Wagin Woolarama wearing his Fremantle premiership medallion and Luke Ryan’s 2024 Norm Smith Medal.
