Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Easier to lure players as the biggest club in the league in central Victoria vs the smaller Perth team on the other side of the country. We’ll never be able to recruit players the way they do.
That’s why we have to work hard on our own backyard.
We also have had a few AFL players wanting to come home.
The non WA boys we have given a chance too have stayed loyal later in
the draft or rookied.
Biggest mistakes are probably Darling, Yeo, McGovern.
I’m biased against VIC Metro boys in general.

That **** is ancient history though. Most of the decision makers from then aren't even at the club.

We're doing great lately with targeting actually gettable players that improve us.

There is a reason why we are so young though.
Add Naughton, and the fiasco of buying in forwards that were flawed.
How many times can a club shoot itself in the foot?
Walls is very good, it’s about the only thing that gives me hope.
Bell on the other hand is too clever.

It's not because of Yeo et al though.

Naughton wasn't a fisasco.

We haven't shot ourselves in the foot since 2018 with Hogan and Lobb.

I'd move on, getting hung up on Ross era or before makes no sense anymore.

The great Jeff Farmer??

Peter Moore is 66 years of age. His 27 year old son Darcy Moore lead Collingwood to a flag today. Which of our ex 100 game 66 year old players have had a son?

Yessir, seen Collard live and that's what he reminds me of but he's got more mongrel in him. Obviously he probably won't reach Farmer's ceiling but they play a similar style. I don't see the comparisons to Bolton because Collard doesn't get much of the ball. He just hunts the defenders down and kicks goals from silly angles.

Yes all things remaining equal, we’re not there yet.

But not all things remain equal. We have a lot of improvement within the group we have & our time will come with the majority of this group. They are young, motivated & have some great young leaders wanting to create history. These days will burn deep with Serong, Brayshaw, Young & Amiss with understanding that they create their own destiny.

Our time is coming.

Is Shaun Mannagh someone we would look at?
From Werribee VFL only 26.
40 Goals

We seem to have a good track record for VFL players - Ryan, Schultz, Switta , Wagner , Stanley

Did we apply for draft pick compensation this year? We haven’t won a premiership in 30 years. Players we have developed at our academy have gone to other clubs. We haven't received the same father son benefits as Collingwood and Brisbane.

There's no hurt is asking, is there?

It shouldn't be a ridiculous suggestion, since North have proven if you stuff up the operations of your club badly enough and keep putting your hand out you will get rewarded with free picks, but it is, it will never happen for us since we tend to mix just the right amount of competence with incompetence to stay off the bottom of the ladder. And even if we did turn into as big of a disaster as North, the AFL would probably change the rules again anyway.

But no, if the question was asked we'd get laughed at, father/sons, flags, academy stuff is not part of their made up criteria.

We haven’t won a wooden spoon or even finished bottom two in 22 years.

Not to mention we’re financially stable without much on field success - we’re exactly where the AFL wants us to be off field. West Coast will struggle for priority picks for the same reason even if they win another spoon next year.

We’d get laughed out of the building by the AFL if we even even tried.
