Like last year, half our injury list, is made up of the continuously injured

Williams, Marchbank, Cuners, Gov, Philp, Martin

Some contracted, most aren't

Tough call, but I would move on 3 at a minimum
Cuningham and Marchbank should probably be moved on unless they get a block of games this season and perform very well. Philp would be 50/50 depending on if we need list space. McGovern and Martin should stay on.

McGovern should be offered for trade.
Martin contract renegotiated down (Daisy Thomas) or retired off. I'm sure Visy or other sponsors can find a job for him post footy.

Cunners delisted. Let some other club try to turn him around. Think other AFL examples: Nathan Freeman, Sean Rusling etc. Heaps of talented players cruelled by injury

Marchie delisted see above. Or sent to the rookie list at best.

Philp delisted. Hard luck story, but we can't carry these guys for years and years. List spots at a premium

If we're willing to ship him off, he's going to have very little value in terms of return.

Martin is already on below average money, and his contract was set by the PSD, and it will be in its final year. Be realistic.

Martin’s money was predominantly in the first couple of years, he’s not on much at all now…. possibly less than Dow…

Williams and Martins contract will see them survive and even though he’s frustrating I think McGoverns best is to valuable and will get offered a new much reduced contract and it will be up to him to make a decision, that leaves marchbank, cuners and philp gone for me.
I would like to see philp given a chance with the vfl though similar to Parkes.

Agree 3-4 of these will need to go unfortunately, similar to the last two years, we are effectively 3-5 players down before we take into account other injuries over the season, l believe finding some draft picks for Austin this year will be important in a strong draft.

The talk about Setters and Stocker will go on and on.

We know why Setters left and once again he is not a burst player he is much the same of what we already have.

Stocker isn’t and wasn’t in front of who we have in our backline already.

The only issue is that we should’ve got something more out of them from a trade value…..that’s all.

Maybe could have got slightly more for Setters but I know I wouldn’t trade a third rounder and pay him ~$400k even now so I really couldn’t care less about him.
Stocker I think you have to be in the inner sanctum to understand why the decision was made

Agree that some hard calls need to be made on the perennially injured. If we’re keeping 3 of those, it’d be Cunners, Gov & Williams for me.

I feel though then that the club would need to keep peripheral players that we might otherwise think are possibly gone at the end of the year (i.e. Dow, Kemp, etc) to maintain strong depth.

If it were me....

Keep:

Mcgovern, Williams. I'd give them one more year, atleast they make a difference for the few games they manage to play. Can't get rid of them all at once anyway.

Trade:

Martin, Marchbank. These guy's will have some sort of trade value, better trying to get something for them then nothing.

Delist:

philp, cunners, lob. Its just not working out, thanks for your services.

I’m cool with McGovern as long as the contract has a games clause, a weight clause and isn’t remotely close to the amount his last contract was. If he doesn’t agree to it then we shake hands and move on.

I'm not convinced, the ITK and SEN media rumours, of TDK close to re-signing (on a 2x year deal) are true.

As we've all seen before, an AFL footballers career, can be taken away, in the blink of an eye.
If he's being offered 8x year deals (Sydney) and massive $$$ (St Kilda & Essendon). He'd be insane not to take it.

Suppose, at the end of the day, if he was to leave, at least we'll get decent compensation in a super draft.
He would not be number 1 ruck at StKilda, highly unlikely he would go to Sydney, he will stay, only club with attraction is Geelong.

I was annoyed at the time we let Setterfield and Stocker go for virtually nothing, and I now see them both locked in as top 22, in two top four sides.

I have viewed a ton of people canning Sos recently, but in my opinion, Austin has not handled these two very well.

Not only has he not extracted any value for Stocker, and very little for Setterfield, but in Setterfield's case, he has given a leg up to our arch enemy in a position of need.
You have 2 million tide up in. The half back line between Saad Williams doc stocker was behind them so seen as surplus and trade in fists year on less money with Boyd etc still on list
You also have 1.5 million tide up with inside mids cripps hewitt Kennedy- you can't off load dow and have carrol something has to give .. setters wanted opportunity .. we had no bargaining power ..

What do you think of the idea of putting Cunners and Marchy on the inactive list to allow us to bring 2 of McMahon, Lieu, Cahill or Ronke onto the list through the mid season draft?

IMO being at the club they shouldn’t take too long to integrate into the game plan. Also they wouldn’t have to relocate so probably wouldn’t ask for extended term past the end of the season.

I wouldn't add any of those players to the main list, Ronke would be a watch at best at the moment

Plenty of talented players at the lower levels that would be better options

Little bit worried about Jack Carrols development as an inside midfielder personally I would like to see him developing across halfback first then 3/4 years down the track tried in the midfield, one asset he does have is decent closing speed to play halfback compared to our other inside mids.
That fair, but we don’t exactly have a good track record with that. Let the mids play in the middle. I thought it was part of the reason they gave Ed another contract was to be in the 2s helping them out.

Welll.... It's worth a shot i guess?
I think we’d get less than perhaps you may imagine. It’s hard to see anything of value. Best to let them go when the times up or even facilitate a move but it’s a shame. They were both good at times but horrifically injury prone.

Who have you got your eye on from the lower levels?
