See it a little differently, take Liam Jones for example. Had all the attributes to be a dominant forward but wasn’t cutting it. Sent down back and dominated in VFL and forced his way back into the team.
Fisher given the opportunity could force his way to the front of the queue. Still under contract I wouldn’t trade him for the sake of it, especially if we use his cap hit on a player like Gresham. Don’t see the valve.
Fair call.
The major difference is that we had a void at FB, which LJ stepped into & thrived.
Fish started the year playing in a position of need, bottled it & has now played a quality game playing in a position we have coverage - IMO he's reduced our need for him but potentially increased his value at the trade table, if he can keep it up.
Given he wouldn't be on base salary, I question the value in keeping a player of questionable fit, especially as salary & list spots grow tighter.

The question is more; Why would Dow want to stay at Carlton? He's not in our best midfield mix when they are all healthy and he'll likely spend the majority of his career in the VFL with us.

Commend him for plugging away in the 2s working on his deficiencies but he's not getting a midfield role ahead of Cripps Walsh or Cerra and Hewett/Kennedy compliment that group better than he does.

Best move for him is going somewhere he's confident he'd be in the starting mix for at least the next few years.
Well the answer is, because there’s many opportunities to play, even if he is the 6th best option, due to injury.

Those five players have only played in 6 games this year together, and won’t for the remainder of the home and away season.

And guess what else? Of those 6 games we only won 1…. to west coast…

There’s so much to discuss in this thread, but just one point for now.
Dow must be re-signed !!
If money is tight and a possible acquisition in Gresham has to be shelved, then so be it.
Whilst always scouting for recruits, it’s the drafted, home grown talent that makes up the bulk of a contending team.
Watching TDK, Hollands and Dow lay it all on the line against Melbourne last night was a timely reminder … 💪

It is Carlton’s best interests to sign dowie up, I’m just not sure it is his best interest.

He would play every week in some teams but at our club, if most of our midfield is up and running he potentially could miss.

He offers some extra dimension to our set up, so it is a very complex decision.

It may well be out of the club’s hand, but we all wish him the very best whatever he decides.

In my mind he makes a fantastic sub, in our best 23.

I think Dow lives with a few of the boys and to the eye he seems as invested in Carlton as you could possibly be.
He’s never dropped his bottom lip and literally just kept hammering away at the door.
There’s clearly something special building inside the walls at Princes Park and those lucky enough to have been involved in something like this know it’s something that you just don’t wanna walk away from …

I hope we keep him. And let’s be honest when have we ever had our best 18 on the park let alone 23

Been thinking about Zachy.
Do we consider trading him?
Does he come back in at the expense of Cincotta or Boyd or Kempy? Straight back in?
Who goes out?
Will he be a depth player? Good problem to have?
What do you think?

Keep. Can never have too many good players.

Mm. Well I think we should keep Dow and SOS for same reason.
I guess I wonder about the amount of money there and the fact our defence is so capable now anyway. Having said that, Zac is such class and speed. And we haven't seen him with our fabulous system in place yet.
So...hmmmm.

I ran this by a few posters privately but I wouldn't be shocked if he got repositioned into this manic forward pressure and hard chasing and running game style

We don't need him down back anymore and he's not a genuine mid so playing him forward of the ball could become his go.

Lots will depend on how much he's willing to work for it.

The injury history and the contract make him virtually unreadable unless we take on a portion of it (too much) and I think he can still play a bigger role for us than that.

Keep. Very good footballer. Strong at the contest and versatile.

Plus I sit near people who like to call him useless. I like to clap loudly when he does good. They certainly don't.

I would love to see Williams tried out at HFF next year. I reckon he would do very well.

His best at GWS was unbelievable. I was so excited to get him.
Then he turns up to his first (or second? ) preseason fat.

Been just average even when fit.
If he can do a McGovern and get fit he’s a weapon but …..
For what we’d get for him v what he “could” be I’d be keeping him.

Quality is always good to keep. I like your take, moving him so Cinc and other up'n comers keep playing is an option I like. Just keep upgrading where we can, knowing we have quality depth for backup.

Agree - I reckon the more manic quicker style football we are now playing would really suit Williams coming off half-back as I reckon, like an NFL style receiver, we are opening up more gaps for him to use his run and break the lines.

For who though?
