Training 2023 Pre-season thread

Pre-season training started again today so I figure it’s as good a time as any to get this thing started.

For all the pre-season talk, training reports, videos, photos and all the talk of who is tearing up the training pitch.

Hoping Cam and Hippy can continue to grow in fitness and confidence after both doing their knees in 2020.

Can’t wait to see all of the new arrivals in Josh Dunkley, Jack Gunston, Connor McKenna, Ashcroft and Fletcher (although delayed with a back issue) and our 3rd Father son in DWJ. And possibly one other Cat B rookie.

I noticed a lot of the boys went away this year with partners during the off season rather than just partying with the boys (not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing, time will tell).

Hoping all the boys come back in good Nik as it is pretty late in the year again and it will be an earlier start to the year next year with an extra round in the Mix.

Excellent vision. Shame about the soundtrack.

Won't lie, this would have been an amazing time for some rob vlogs pre-season footage with all the new additions. Oh well, hopefully the club picks up their video game and gets content out.

Just looking at a few of the club photos and videos.

Dev is noticeably bigger across the chest and shoulders. So to a few of the other players.

Not so much the second year players, they’re still looking lightweight.

Much needed after the regular beatings we copped in contested ball from certain teams...

Be interested to learn how others interpret these comments from Dan McStay after his first session at Collingwood?

Depending on which day of the week it might have been this week there could have been a 15-20 degree difference in temperature given how disgustingly cold it has been here in Melbourne. Has a fairly big effect on what you can do early on in pre-season.

Looking at the Collingwood board, they were doing contested ball drills, 1-on-1s and a match sim. Maybe we don't start doing that until a bit later in the off-season?

I'd consider this an opportunity to gain a considerable advantage over the rest of the competition, rather than a hindrance.

Last preseason, we were doing match sims the day the new draftees arrived.

Ashcroft and Fletcher were involved, because they had already spent a couple of weeks training with the boys, while Wilmot and Lohmann watched on.

Ex-Nightcliff player Zach Derksen who played last season at Wilston Grange has reported signed on for our VFL side. His brother Wade was signed by GWS and Zach reportedly came on well at the end of last season in the QAFL.

Fantastic way for Hugh to spend his off-season, good on him.

The entire list is due back next week, which will see the arrival of prized Hawthorn recruit, Jack Gunston and former Bomber, Conor McKenna.

Looks like we're going to get our first look at Conor in the Lions colours next week. Having a look at the forecast, I don't know how kind the weather is going to be to him.
