I think Brisbane will start the year off on fire and fade late. Same as Melbourne.
Sydney will miss the finals.
Richmond will be their abouts.
We will come late maybe finish 3rd-5th depending on luck and injuries.
If the hunger is still there we will go extremely close.

I think we win it again, we have the same team minus selwood and these are not guys that roll over we've been competitive for 10 years and been burned each time until we final broke through, we have the best forward line in the game our defense is solid and while missing some we've shown we can cover well, midfield knows how to get it done, we've got tanner Atkins Bowes and Holmes all to play mid, we've seen how damaging Atkins and Holmes can be and if they step it up this year we're really going to look scary. It ours to lose is my guess, 16 straight played one hell of an intense final against Collingwood and stoped their golden run and then crushed the grand final like it was nothing. I think our full strength team is best in the league, and Melbourne second if they can get back to playing their best.

Premier: Bris
GF: Melb vs Bris
Others in top 4: Rich, Geel
Rest of the 8: Coll, Syd, Carl, Port
Frustrated 6: Ess, GCS, GWS, Freo, StK, Dogs
Bottom 4: Haw, WCE, Nth, Adel

Kenny to scrape port into finals and then walk away. Their next coach will make them dangerous.

Hawthorn to not even hide the tanking on their way to pick 1.

Freo, Dogs, and the Suns will be chances of making the 8 in the final rounds.

Brisbane are mentally soft.
No doubt they make at least a PF with their list but they wont win it.
I think we could win it again but it depends on hunger and our injury list.
If we dont win it my tip would be melb but honestly there are no standout teams which is why we are a chance to go B2B.

1. Brisbane
2. Melbourne
3. Geelong
4. Carlton
5. Sydney
6. West Coast
7. Collingwood
8. Richmond

Premiers: Geelong

Runners up: Carlton

Norm Smith: Max Holmes

Coleman Medal: Harry Mckay

Brownlow Medal: Jack Steele (no one taking votes off him in his team, Saints won't win that many games but Brownlow Medalists have come from outside the top 8 before).

I think Carlton are on the rise in a big way - they're ready to explode. West Coast are my Collingwood of 2022. Bulldogs and Freo the best of the rest and knocking down the door of the top 8. The MCG factor is why Pies and Tigers make the 8. They're just hard to beat there and will win enough games to drop into the 8. Semi / prelim is as far as either will go IMO.

Could have said the same thing about us at the start of 2022. Brisbane were banged up going into finals

We had at least made a GF with a worse list in 2020 and twice the obstacle to a flag was simply an excellent Richmond that overwhelmed us in second halves. Brisbane straight setted twice with all home finals (sizable favourites in the semis), lost a home prelimas warm favourites to a Geelong side that hadn't won a prelim in the last 5 attempts and then last year finally had a respectable run but the prelim was a massacre. Of course they can turn it around but they overall should've copped more heat than that Geelong side did. Their finals run last year masked the fact that their H&A finish itself was quite a choke job.

Jason Akermanis - when giving his selections for season 2023 - he said how could you pick the winner in 2022 ( thats how difficult these selections are ) and most Geel supporters would have agreed with that - i wouldnt have backed the Cats at 100-1 preseason last year for the flag

He also said he thought Melb after what happened in 21 would win 3-4 flags - now that it is the question - was last season a glitch for them - but to be perfectly fair after winning the 1st 10 games - they were pretty woeful at the end - their performances against the Swans and Bris in the finals in Victoria after leading early was atrocious - dare i say the old Melb

Its only practise matches - but their form has been good - and their performance in 21 was sensational - so im going with Melb as premiers

Who they will beat in the GF - i will go with either Richmond or Geelong - Tigers looked to have recruited well - and the Cats i think will be up the pointy end of the ladder again

My smoky to make the 8 - at an attractive price is Essendon - Brad Scott in his 10 years at Nth Melb - he didnt really have much talent to work with - and i think he ended up with basically a 50/50 win/loss record - well if the Dons can win half their games - and pinch a couple of victories here and their - then they could sneak into the 8

The issue with Melbourne which we somehow overlooked for 1.5 seasons was that they were managing with an average forward line. Those forwards to their credit stepped up big time for the 2021 finals series. It finally caught up to them when those forward players (not Fritsch but some of the more mediocre ones) reverted to the norm and perhaps their midfield/defence lines went from super dominant to just very strong.

The Grundy/Gawn combination and having McDonald back may help there - not that the latter is fantastic but at least their structure is better with him in. What I'd say they also need is inconsistent Kozi Pickett having a really strong year and maybe an X factor in Petracca spending some time forward and excelling.

Fritsch is A grade. Gawn/Grundy splitting their time there could give them an edge. Pickett has potential.

The rest of them? Brown, Shache, McDonald, Spargo, Neale-Bullen, Sparrow. Not sure how many goals or how much creativity you get from them.

Difficult to judge us.
Henry, Hawkins, Duncan, Neale, maybe Holmes- are important outs for our early games.(+/- Cameron.)
Selwood of course is an unprecedented loss.
Early losses, if they occur, may help us with reality and hunger checks, or could unsettle our confidence and invincibility factor.

Like most suggest, Lions , Demons, Tigers, Pies, Freo, Blues, Swans should make top 8, but there is always a shock in and out.

Top 8:
Demons
Cats
Power
Tigers
Swans
Freo
Lions
Bombers

Premiers: Djilang
Runners up: Narrm

Demons to get back to their best but to rely heavily on their stars through the h&a and run out of puff just enough for us to pip them at the post on GF day.
Tigers to return to the top 4. End their season with Dimma blaming their PF loss on some "gross injustice".
Port the surprise-packets.
Lions and Swans to fall a bit off the pace.
Bombers to make the 8, breaking pies, blues, bulldog and suns hearts in the final round of the h&a.
GF to be played by two oldest clubs under their Indigenous Australian place names.

But one win on the MCG in God knows how many years.

IF ...... someone can guarantee me that all our talls stay fit ... Hawkins, Cameron, Blitz, Stanley, Ceglar, Sdek and maybe Sav .....

then we can win it again.

My fear is our most vulnerable chink in our chain ...had a dream run year in 22. Stanley, Hawkins and Blitz are probably due to have injury affected years and its our weak link. So its going to be tough.

As it stands right now ... How much are the bookies paying for a Brisbane Geelong GF. ?

Really smart, I fully agree if Jezz and Hawks can go around like last year and our defending talls can break even with the best oppositions, then we have every hope of a repeat. But as you say we had a charmed run last year with that group staying healthy. Our reserve talls are fully untested so we can only hope we get more of the same.

If we have a good injury run and enough hunger, than we should at least make the granny.

It'll be interesting to see how we evolve. Looking at the Lions preseason game, I think teams would have looked at Pies/Tigers vs us over the offseason and seen we're weak to speed on the ball so I want to see how we counter it.

I haven't looked forward to the season this much in along time. We were monkeying last week against Brizzy and they still only beat us by what was it 46 points?

You can't read anything into preseason, but a club who were clearly taking things much more seriously than we were should have killed us. They are not as good as people are jumping on.

The worry for me is Melbourne. I think their Gawn, Grundy thing is in part specifically designed to negate our strategy of using Blitz around the ground, and Hawkins forward. With Gawn also replicating it somewhat in their own forwardline.

So I think it'll be a Geelong, Melbourne, Sydney, Tigers top 4. Brizzy will make the 8 but go out either week 2 or Prelim again.
