Any chance Cadman debuts as a winger?, or 40 % wing, 45% forward.
If we always have 3 talls, 1 ruckman on the field then assuming Flynn, himmelberg, ricardi, Hogan, Cadman play 85% gametime we only need Cadman to be 25% wing, 60% forward. I am only suggesting this as he was a winger before last season.

Is that the best way to develop him, though? When we clearly want (and need) a KPF?

If Cadman isn't good enough to play as KPF in the seniors then he shouldn't be playing imo, he needs all the reps he can get as a KPF especially for someone so early in their development curve considering his late switch to KPF. Absolutely fine with him playing the overwhelming majority of his games in the 2s this year instead of playing out of position in the 1s. No need to rush him to get him on the team just for the sake of it.

I agree. I was going to not post these thoughts,
I just thought with Kelly,Whitfield out it might be a possibility. But there are other players who can fill in for Kelly/Whitfield. It is a shame they are out, hopefully their concussions are very mild ( if there is such a thing as very mild concussion).

B Hamilton Taylor Idun
HB Ash Buckley Cumming
C Callaghan Green Stone
HF Daniels Himmleberg Peatling
F Greene Hogan Cadman
FOLL- Flynn Ward Coniglio
I/C- Fahey, Briggs, Lloyd, Angwin
Sub- Kennedy

Our bottom six really showed up on Sunday. Let's hope they can do it again against West Coast.

This is a danger game sadly. That's why I've thrown Ward in the middle rather than an inexperienced Stone who can rotate through if need be. Ward can play a similar style to Perryman (defensive).

Rowston is not like for like with Josh Kelly, no one is, but I'd prefer to bring in and inside mid and keep Callaghan's width which was really damaging.

Much like the second half of the Adelaide game I think we can dominate the midfield battle.

Hamilton is stiff

I like your reasonsing. I just dont think Ward is a wing. He needs to be inside if he is in the rotation.

I also think Kennedy is really stiff here

Riccardi and HH would want to be a fair bit better this week. Toby provides more of a contest in the air than those two together.

Riccardi was poor

I saw multiple times that brent daniels was trying to direct him to lead into the best spot. He sooked it up. FOr a player who provides zero defensive pressure he needs to provide more offensively

I had Wehr playing wing over Ward. But I see your point.
Cooper would be a fun. He's a strong runner and I've liked his performances.
Alternatively you could put Ward back forward and chuck Stone as a loping tall wing.
Not sure if anyone else noticed the size differentail between Callaghan and his opposite against Adelaide.
Couple of big boys on the wing.

I think there's real value in allowing Cadman to develop in his real position at a level that is closer to his at this stage and one in which the stakes aren't quite as high and there's less spotlight and pressure on him in order to perform well our of the gate. Letting him play 15+ games in the VFL this year will allow him to try out different things and develop his game, while he may pick up some things from playing at a different position at the AFL level I think there's more development to be had in playing reserves.

Our injury list going into this match - not good at all. Aleer out for 4 weeks, Perryman 4-6 weeks, O’Halloran 3-5 weeks and Preuss 3-4 weeks

Apart from Carlton, we have the worst injuries ( but take out Josh Kelly, Whitfield it looks alot better).

I’d play Kennedy as the wing. He has the running capacity to do it all day and has done so in the past. I see the wing position as a specialist position so I would be critical of who goes there

Stone I see as a forward

I don’t think Kennedy can play wing… his kicking is too much of a liability.

I think they'd trust him to take that role but when you have Cooper coming through I'd be more inclined to go with him.
It'll be interesting to see what Kingsley goes with. It's a tough balance to get right with 3 big outs.
Our Mids and Backs should dominate.
Forwards again will be the ???

It was good that we won against Adelaide. If we had lost playing like we did in the first half, and had this injury list, our mood would be very bleak indeed. As it is, even with the players injured, we should be optimistic about beating West Coast, given the belief and courage shown in the second half.

WCE are coming off a demoralising loss against the consensus wooden spoon fancies and Giants had an inspirational comeback against a rival young up and coming list.
It'll be tough but we should really go in with a mental edge.

his disposal efficiency over recent seasons has fluctuated between 77% & 84%

on sunday it was 83%

I don't understand the constant knocks on his DE
his role is generally to take pretty conservative options, which he does just fine. but soon as he is required to a bit more, not his jam.
On the wing, he is required to take tough kicks going inside 50, I dont think his skillset suits that.
I think the same for XOH, when in tight in the midfield his disposal is fine. If he has to play on the wing, he is not great at that.

We’ve had this discussion in here. He can’t hit someone up on the lead as he runs down a wing. Those kicks are short safe kicks. On a wing you need someone who can hit people up.
