Other clubs succeed with average players. Is Berry better than Hewett or Kennedy? No? Is Harmes better than our midfielders? Tonnes of top 8 teams have s**t players, but the system prevails. Richmond's success was based on a bunch of Reserve Grade hacks with a solid game style.
Yep 👍.

He's a comfortable, multi-millionaire 20 something and it shows. A shocking loss that helps to further derail our season and our captain is having a good laugh about it. Says everything - about him & the club. We have no leaders.
Your right he should pound the ground two fisted like a baby screaming it isn’t fair with tears running down his cheeks that’s leadership

"moneyball".

C'mon, I hardly think most people around here (but not you, I'm sure) have enough faith in stats to buy into a proper moneyball approach. Plus, I don't think there's enough predictability in football (the fact there's an opposition doesn't help) to offer an opportunity to really moneyball it. PLUS plus, like "humblebrag", no one seems to use "moneyball" correctly
It was an analogue as if we used stats then we would be stuffed further. Smarter trades look for that 21 to 23 year age bracket players that xant get a gig at say a good team and get rid of our fringe players who we delist. We cant rebuild as in 4 tob5 years time our top end players will be too old or either gone to tassie undrr free agency. We have 2 to 3 years to up trade to give us a chance

Not sure the meltometer will stand up to this.

Could swear we got done by a 100 points reading some of the comments......
Supporters are understandably upset.

The laughing after the game doesn't bother me really. The 17 touches and basically playing a sub Will Brodie style game does.

Brisbane's side is stacked, anyone who thinks we have as much talent as Brisbane is kind of insane.

Compare the respective forward lines. We have Charlie and Harry, who are comparable to Daniher and Hipwood (probably better, but in same ball park). For the rest we have Motlop, Durdin, Honey and JSOS. They have Charlie Cameron, Bailey and Gunston. They are a fair bit better everything being equal. For us to win, we needed guys like Cripps, Cerra, Walsh, Harry, Saad and Charlie to play out of their skins.
Have a look at our next four games the only game I think we’re a chance in is against the cheats other than that it would be miraculous to win one of the other four

Some stats:
Carlton +57 possessions (395-338)
Carlton +25 contested (155-130)
Carlton +50 uncontested (253-203)
Carlton +4 centre clearances (14-10)
Tied Inside 50s (47-47)

Cripps 159 metres gained.
Hewett 192 metres gained.
Walsh 221 metres gained.
Kennedy 306 metres gained in 1 quarter.

What this shows is that the game plan is slow, chippy, stodgy. We aren’t good enough with ball in hand and by foot to play that control style. We lack any dare. We lack any speed both by foot and speed of ball movement. Unleash the shackles and give this team a chance or it’s going to be a death by 1000 cuts. Absolute no man’s land.

Hey Brodie aint a millionaire and is an average footballer. Dont compare apples to bananas. Lets just say Cripps isnt anywhere where he needs to be tonight. He needs to get some grunt and mongrol back in him

That was crap.
As poor as Fish has been, I feel he would've given more than Honey.
Love Ed, but I just don't see what he brings. Kennedy would've given more, and nearly did in less than a third of the game time Ed played.
Subbing Young off seemed weird.
Our decision making is terrible.
What do we do when Cripps can't impact the game? Similarly with Harry and Charlie?

Our best players are Cerra and Cincotta.
Our players who try the hardest both ways are Hollands and again, Cincotta.
We look better when we take the game on. Playing on, taking the risky kick and moving the ball fast.
We look our worst when we bomb long down the line to contests.
Which one do you think we seem to do more of?
As poor as Fish has been and probably deserved a kick up the ass, this is surely the end of the road for Honey.

He just doesn't have the smarts to make it at AFL level.

If Owies gets through tomorrow he will come back next week, as will Fish if he plays well.

Overall though, we are talking about guys who should be good depth players, we just don't have a good enough overall squad.

Basically we should re-arrange the side to accomodate and build around Dow, for a minimum of the rest of the season at least, according to some.

That isn't our issue. We don't need more unaccountable midfielders, Dow offers more of what we already have, but not as good.

Where we lack, is dynamic play makers, small forwards and half forwards, Dow is none of those things. I am sure Dow will get games, but we'd be better off letting him go and get a more balanced list.

If anyone wants Dow in for Honey or Durdin/Motlop, they should be barred from the forum. It would be a way to completely kill Dow's career, as that isn't what he is good at.

We have a below average ruck as well, but Dow isn't going to change that. Hollands isn't the finished article yet, but Dow isn't going to play wing better. Cincotta is just ok, but Dow isn't going to help there either.

Kennedy is better than Dow, and he isn't even in the 22.
Far out, my irony detector was obviously malfunctioning when I started your post as I was thinking your first line was serious for about half a second, which is way too long.

The only two quibbles - I think there's a case for Dow replacing Honey (more at half forward though) with big stints in the middle, but I honestly (I'm biased) think Fisher should probably be in there instead of Honey. The other is that I think we actually have a much better than average ruck, don't we (maybe aside from tonight)?

I hate to say it but we have to play like the pies if we loose then lets be fun to watch. Not so frigging boring

As I said that is the fact which upset me. We are in a conundrum with Cripps, if he isn't dominating he is a liability. I am not sure we will ever be that good a side with the midfield structured as it is having to accomodate for Cripps.
