I doubt we sold him much hope, he got himself a 2 year deal instead of being delisted, would be pretty happy about that I reckon

Didn’t we beat 2-3 other clubs in the race for Corbett? Don’t think there was ever much of a chance of him being delisted tbh.

Pretty sure Corbett chose us because of perceived opportunity.

Yeah it seemed like it. A lot of talk that he would take over Logue's role as a forward. But I just can't see a way that he fits into that forward line. We lost two in Lobb and Logue, but have added Fyfe and Jackson, and then Treacy/Sturt/Amiss next in line. Regardless of KPF or medium fwd, I just don't see where he can come in.

CODE Sports’ Eliza Reilly was at Fremantle training as they prepare for their round one match against St Kilda.
Here are the key talking points just over a week away from their season opener.

All on track

A selection headache awaits Fremantle in round one as several stars returned to the training track on Wednesday.
Michael Frederick received a loud cheer from his teammates after recovering from a quad injury and rejoining the main group. The speedy forward wore a red cap to remind his teammates to take things easy but Frederick otherwise moved freely except for a few kicks on his non-preferred foot.
Michael Walters ramped up his running as he continues to manage an achilles issue. The veteran missed both pre-season clashes against Adelaide and Port Adelaide but the club are yet to rule him out of round one. The 32-year-old put his achilles to the test throughout a solid session and was spotted running with intensity, changing direction and taking shots at goal.
Luke Ryan (back), Luke Jackson (head knock) and Corey Wagner (hamstring) were also back in full training meaning the entire squad made an appearance on Wednesday.

Fyfe scales back

Nat Fyfe was on light duties at training as Fremantle look to manage his workload in the lead-up to round one.
There’s plenty of excitement building about what Fyfe can produce as a forward this year after kicking nine goals in his past three games. But the two-time Brownlow medallist was restricted to some light run-throughs and laps on Wednesday.
It’s all part of the bigger picture with the 31-year-old set to be fit and firing come round one against St Kilda. Fyfe did spend some time again refining his set shot routine.
Small forwards Travis Colyer and Walters were the only other Dockers on light duties.

Final touches

A one-apiece pre-season ledger hasn’t stopped Fremantle from making improvements in the final phases before round one.
Some line work towards the end of training gave some subtle clues as to what refinements the Dockers will make in the next week and half before tackling St Kilda.
Fremantle’s defenders focused on match-ups in pairs and contested marking. There was also an emphasis on clearing the ball quickly once it hit the ground.
While Fremantle’s midfielders and forwards teamed up to worked on inside-50 entries. The Dockers lost the stat 58-45 in their final pre-season hitout against Port. Starting with a ball-up on the wing, Fremantle appeared to look to move the ball to a more central position before releasing it inside 50.

Code Sports needs to offer a team-based subscription - they're clearly out ahead in terms of their detail and depth of analysis. $10 a month just feels steep when I don't want to read the other stuff they're producing and most of it gets posted on here anyway...

Great work, Eliza Reilly. Hope The West is not plagiarising your research. This morning's sports seems to be a re-hash of your article.

He would have been delisted by GC if he had no suitors
Possibly. It’s essentially why we were not keen on inc. him into a F2 for Sharp trade. GC just wanted a F2 and initially tried to get Sharp and Corbett thrown in to get that F2. Freo we’re having none of that. F3 for Sharp and F4 for Corbett. We had plenty of both F3’s and F4’s. We had to part ways with a F4 for Corbett because as you say he was a chance of being delisted and there were a couple of other clubs interested. In the end GC held firm on F2 for Sharp and we didn’t budge on F3 and went off prioritising other deals involving JOM, Lobb and Meek. Sharp if he is salty whatever and should he go to WCE also whatever but GC will be lucky to get a late 3rd or F3 at this point.
