Between Fort, Smith, Payne, etc, it looks like we've moved on to re-signing 2024 uncontracted players for the moment. I'm not sure who's extension I'm looking forward to most - Lyons or Gunston.

Is that even a question? Gunners is back baby

AFL quality ruckman that are OK with playing reserves until they're needed aren't always easy to find, hence the ruck merry-go-round every trade period.
This one is a very strange decision from Fort. He is clearly capable of being the primary ruck, yet has decided it is better to play second banana at Brisbane. McInerney is unlikely to be replaced any time soon unless injury strikes. This has really surprised me.

I wonder if Grundy's sudden availability and Port apparently very interested, was the deciding factor in staying here. Probably better to stay and play second fiddle where you are, then have to pack up and move to another state, to again presumably play reserves. Port was probably looking a far more attractive option until Grundy seemingly became available in that sense.

Port looking likely to add Grundy and Ratugolea which helps to strengthen two of their weakest positions in ruck and KPD(Although I admit many don’t rate Ratugolea all that highly). We’ll need to get creative to try ensure we improve next year as well with Port likely to get stronger.

I would assume we have somebody lined up to potentially come in via trade/free agency.... Tom Doedee the only one I can recall who generated any scuttlebutt re that possibility though.

I think our youngsters will drive us while Zorko, Rich, Lyons and Gunston retiring won't hurt us too much based on this year's output

Even someone like McKenna should benefit from another year in the system (hurry up and re-sign)
I had thought that we would find it very difficult to replace Zorko up until this season, we have been fine without him when he has been injured, Richy will almost certainly retire.

Fages has also shown he is not hesitant to drop older players(Rich/Lyons), I am sure he would do the same with Gunston if needed.

I think that's better phrased as "Fagan has shown he is hesitant to drop older players, but once you're dropped it's very hard to return."

The Doedee link came from Twomey.

Twomey doesn’t run with stuff, unless it’s 99% a certainty.

I think I read something recently that Doedee is now likely to remain at the Crows. I’d love for us to get him though. Quality defender and from all reports another leader/great quality human to add to our playing ranks. Pair him up with Washcroft in the rehab group and unleash both post bye next year!

Yeah he'd be a ripper

Everywhere he goes, he is second banana. He grew up in Brisbane - mayhap he has decided that if this is his lot, he would rather stay in Brisvegas than uproot again.

The money must be satisfactory and he might just really enjoy being at the club. I know the main name thrown around was Port but maybe they have their sights set elsewhere. Can’t think of any other club where there’s not already a much younger ruck being developed or already have a ruck whose solidified their spot.

I’d say Port and Sydney are the only two who fit the bill. Sydney already have Ladhams and Hickey with a young McAndrew so I don’t think they’d be getting a new ruck unless they are a absolute lock for best 22. Port still have Lycett who isn’t having a great year but they’ve done really well with Finlayson helping out a lot (plus Ratagolea next year might pinch hit sometimes).

GWS would’ve been on there before Briggs burst out but even then they also have Flynn and Preuss.

Fort I think is 100% capable but there aren’t that many open spots as is anyway.

ironically enough geelong would be pretty desperate for a first ruck right now

stanley and ceglar are both cooked and i dont think their rookie ruck is ready for the role yet

There was a time when the ruckman was your most important player
True. That is why we spent top picks on Llane Spaandermann, Cameron Wood, Mitch Clark (looked best as ruck at AFL level) and Matthew Leuenberger eith top picks between 2003-2006. Very good strategy and we were richly rewarded.
