Refreshing to see a realistic and pragmatic WCE fan when it comes to pick 1.

That bzparkes dude in the drafts and trading thread is absolutely delusional.
Is that the one who thinks if you trade two first round picks it values Reid at the later one, not the whole package?

Hawks will probably trade their F1 for GC pick, too. Flanders, Haynes, Riccardi. Draft Duursma and Caddy.

If we had Clarko, LDU and Wardlaw healthy all year then we're probably in there position on about 6 wins and looking like a better destination.

On the long list of father sons that didn’t qualify after they changed the rules.
It's a great system, Paul Spargo's 81 games for us didn't give us F/S rights to Charlie, but the Swans get academy access to Nick Blakey, because apparently despite his dad's 224 games for us (as well 135 for the Roys) without the Swans academy he could well have been lost to the game!

He is generally delusional on everything

See the North priority pick thread on the main board

Just drowns you out with incessant posting of pure garbage

Haynes to Hawks doesn't really make sense though.

Some Hawks posters just want it to happen because they're arrogant and delusional and they're convinced GWS will hand over a first round pick with him.

Likewise, anyone can see our F1 is more enticing than the Hawks'. Why would you take the F1 of a team that's been playing well when you could have the F1 of a team who's finished in the bottom 2 for the past 4 years?

If we're not offering our F1 then it isn't there to take.

And I think the Haynes stuff is discussed by some ITKs, including non-hawks.

easy to get players to commit when you look decent on field and can compete with the clubs higher on the ladder.
They had the year that I wanted us to have and hoped would set us up as a destination this trade week.

Unfortunately our season was pretty significantly impacted by their racism scandal and some key injuries.

I think with LDU, Wardlaw and Clarko having healthy years we would have beaten hawks, swans, bombers, saints and eagles. We'd be on 7 wins with 2-3 more possible to close out the year.

It's the quality of their mature agers than anything else.
We don't have the sicily types that make others excited to play with. We don't have the mature agers pushing training standards and hawks team is a lot better across the board in terms of talent.

We're only as good as our bottom end at the end of the day and unfortunately that's where a few of our mature age players sit.

It's the opposite of where we should be.

And pretty importantly, balance.

They have their impressive young KPPs already in and gaining experience. Their general defenders and forwards look good, and while I think our midfield pips theirs, they have some impressive kids coming through.

GWS have blown their Salary Cap again with the HH contract.

That's all this is about.

Now GWS have to shift $$$ off the books and the highest earner, that is least desired to be kept, is Nick Haynes.

Mate he's on $1 mil per year for the rest of his contract. Why would any club take that huge salary without getting a 1st round draft pick back. They won't.

Hawks getting the Haynes salary dump, Riccardi and Flanders ... * them

I doubt they will get all 3.

Haynes is up to GWS to approve the pick going to another club.

Riccardi may well stay and as far as I know hasn't nominated a club, so is still very much on the table - if he leaves.

Flanders was done and dusted last season - it was up to Sam if he wanted to come to Hawthorn or stay and fight at GC.

He stayed.

I honestly think this was a 100% done deal this year too - but then we sacked Dew, and if Dimma comes in, Flanders may well decide to stay again.

Hawthorn are losing Brockman back West, and you'd think Sam Frost would be on the table too. Morris,Greene, Jeka even Kosi are OOC.

DGB can't get a game.

As for CJ - 3 months ago I'd have said 100% no, but Scrimshaw seems to have finally done what Mitchell wanted him to do, and sealed his spot in the best 22 - and Weddle, well CJ isn't pushing Weddle out in a month of Sundays.

Problem is - he's a marketers wet-dream and sells a lot of shirts.

Be one helluva deal to prise him out - but it's gotta be worth having the convo.

I still reckon Chris Burgess solves a heap of your forward structure issue.

Well take our situation, for example.
If we lose Mckay but draft Curtin or O'Sullivan, we need a solid tall defender to cover for 2-3 years.
So Haynes would be perfect for that timeline.
As you say, the back-ended salary figure is ridiculous. But he is an AA, its only for 12 months, and we'll be pissing away money this year if we can't reach the minimum TPP spend anyway.
If, for instance, they attached Riccardi to him, its getting pretty close to a worthwhile means of servicing our immediate needs.
That's just one example for why they won't have to attach a first rounder to offload the Haynes contract.
