I think we win this week, but still get Harley Reid.

Theres enough smoke around the stories that he doesnt want to go to Perth. West coast are pumping up stories surrounding Curtin flying in the WAFL. I think he is their guy.

We will get pick 3 compo for Mckay.

Do you think McKay has hit his ceiling or do you think he has the ability to improve his game if he goes to a club like Sydney?

He has the ability to improve his game in two ways...
  • consistently staying on the field
  • consistently playing within the role that he can play and not needing to do more

He has looked like an AA when he just plays his ideal role, but can look bad outside of that. And I think that north has plans for a more versatile backline.

In my mind, there's no doubt a proper preseason and being in a defence line that isn't under constant siege will make him perform better than he has this year, but its an open question about how high that ceiling is.

Hasn't hit his ceiling in terms of output, but has in terms of the traits he shows. Imo

What that means:
**** all footy IQ, will likely struggle to play in a system where he isn't the focal point

Hands are amongst the safest in the comp, borderline impossible to outbody too. There aren't many players I'd prefer to have patrolling long opposition inside 50s

Average kick that will never reach Darcy Moore level, for example

Reads the ball well and is deceptively quick when getting to a contest, but will sometimes be outmanoeuvred by a smarter player, either in the contest or on the ground

It'll all depend how the coaching staff use him. At times at North he's looked a million bucks, and at other times like someone let the special kid have a run around. Your mob's been a well run club for decades so I wouldn't have too many concerns about his weaknesses

Do you think they Sydney system suits the way that McKay should be used because I personally have my doubts atm.

If you’d asked me six months ago, I would have been pretty confident he could play a modified version of Paddy or Aliir’s role. The last six months have been pretty frustrating, there have been games where he seemed to not understand Clarko’s defensive plan at all, and his attention seemed to waver at critical moments in the game. Then again, he’s been one of our best on a couple of recent occasions too. Genuinely bewildering.
I think zoomba23 captured it pretty well: the more licence he’s given to roam, intercept and dominate, the better he looks.

So many options for PSD pick 1

I kinda want gerogiadies with that so we screw the tarps over

But Henry for free would be nice also
Coincidentally, Harley Reid and Georgiades matched up earlier in the year and had a bit of trash talk, back and forth.

My hopes aren't too high for getting either but Henry and Georgiades would be great additions.

I have thought this for weeks now, regarding Reid & I do actually think we win the game of footy this weekend too.

We’ve always had the upper hand of West Coast finished bottom. The pressure is on them to pick Reid as he is ‘generational’ or whatever, but if they trade out of pick 1 then we get Curtin at 2 anyway.

I’ll be cheering us for the win this weekend. I think we are in a great spot regardless of the outcome.

Heck, we may win in Tassie & then 4 hours later West Coast beat Adelaide in Perth anyway.

HAWKS ENTER CHASE FOR BIG ROO

HAWTHORN has entered the race for star key defender Ben McKay, as the market for the North Melbourne free agent continues to swell.

The Hawks are chasing key defensive depth during the upcoming trade and free agency window and have identified McKay as a target, with AFL.com.au also revealing the club's interest in Cats defender Esava Ratugolea.

Hawthorn has a need for mature-aged key defenders that it can pair alongside captain James Sicily to fast-track the team's rebuild, having already enjoyed an impressive seven-win campaign under coach Sam Mitchell this season.

Essendon, Sydney and Port Adelaide are also eyeing potential moves for McKay, who is one of the last remaining restricted free agents on the market.

North Melbourne also remains hopeful of retaining McKay, with the club's list manager Brady Rawlings telling Gettable earlier this month that the Kangaroos would consider forcing a trade if they didn't receive first-round compensation for his exit.

McKay's potential departure could help North Melbourne lands picks No.1 and No.2 at the upcoming national draft, should it receive tier one compensation in return. The club is currently last on the AFL ladder with one game to play in the year.

McKay, who stands at 202cm, has established himself as one of the League's best lockdown and intercept defenders across his 70-game and eight-year North Melbourne career. The Kangaroos have the ability to match any rival bid for him, given his status as a restricted free agent. – Riley Beveridge

PICK PURCHASING ON CLUB RADARS

CASHED up clubs such as Hawthorn, Essendon and North Melbourne will be keenly eyeing the AFL's decision on introducing pick purchasing after the League asked clubs for feedback on the plan.

AFL.com.au revealed last week the AFL had sent a survey to clubs on the future of list management and player movement, with the League interested in clubs' views on a range of new rules and tweaks.

Included in that was 'pick purchasing', which AFL.com.au revealed was part of the plans allowing a club to trade a draft pick in exchange for salary cap space.

With strong support, some of the measures put forward by the AFL could be considered for this upcoming off-season's trade and free agency period.

Clubs such as the Hawks, Bombers and Kangaroos will be in strong positions to benefit from pick purchasing if a form of it does come in for 2023 given the clubs' big salary cap space.

Wouldn't have thought he suits the hawks.... they already have Sicily who likes to roam around and intercept.... they need someone to stick on their man one on one... buckets to me is better when he is given more freedom

It would be almost negligent now for West Coast not to take Curtin.

Its on them to work out what the picks are that they need to land him.

Its a really tricky spot as Curtin likely doesnt get past us at pick 2. if we end up with that.

Fair play to the big guy. He sure is getting a lot of interest for someone whose target salary has been widely pilloried.

I said in another thread, thankfully the people assessing him are club level recruiters and not BF posters.

Disagree, how can it be negligent if he has gone before their pick.... they shouldn't sell the farm to move up to get pick one...they are in need of multiple young kids... to me it would be more negligent to put all eggs in one basket to get Curtin. Pick him at two if he is avail if not back your system and culture and pick other players that will stay and enjoy being part of their club

I’ve been told that we haven’t really engaged much with his management. This goes the other way too, with his management not really proactively engaging with us.

Sydney & Essendon are the two front runners. But I’ve heard that two other Melbourne based clubs have the salary cap space and are interested. Richmond & Hawks…
