Never had an opinion on Hunter Clark but I’ve come around to trading him, reason being we need collateral he would net us a 2nd rounder.

Let Gresham go seen enough to say we can cover him once again collateral with the herbs & spices formula it could be anything from 15-30 odd who knows but another 2nd rounder.

Gives us a minimum 2 more 2nd rounder to on trade to Freo & GC.

Also would be looking at Melican from Sydney looked ok this year & would be minimum chips.

I'm pretty worried by the time that we eventually/ever draft some talented midfielders and work on that department - it's going to be the same time we say goodbye to our key players i.e Steele, Sincs, Hill, Wilkie, Wood and we'll be stuck in the same cycle of mediocrity. A horrible position to be in.

good observation. thats the issue we are running into.

It is a chance but I will back RTB to turn things around before we lose too many to retirement. If we lose Gresham, Clark & Billings this year I a hoping SOS & Allan can turn our hand into Flanders, Henry & Dow or similiar. Stealing Darcy Parish as a free agent from the Dopers would be the perfect result. Hopefully somewhere we can also grab a ruckman eg Nick Bryan, Sam Hayes or Matt Flynn. Although I remain confident Max Heath will become a very good AFL ruckman and leader at the club.

I'm a lot more optimistic about our list but perhaps it is delusion.

KPFs - Hammer, Max and Coops all very young. Not sure if Coops makes it but that's a decent tall setup if all three get to where we see their ceiling. Hayes and Keeler to push for spots too (Keeler maybe a little way away). Then smalls - Higgins only 24.

KPDs - Presumably Wilkie plays longer due to being a late draft, could see him playing well up to ~33 or so; so six years from now. Battle still only 24. Hopefully we can get some serviceability from Doogs for a couple of years until we can see Van Es works out or not.

Ruck - Big Ro has at minimum 4 more good years, maybe a little more. Moose tracking to hit his straps at just the right time.

You can always trade aggressively for mids. Personally I hope we go hard for Parish, I used to think of him as a bit soft but his CP numbers are way up these last few years.

We bought up shit overpriced **** ups because the club had a plan to target free agency and no-one wanted to come. Hard to get the mids that won't come.

Yesterday was a reality check for where our list is and it’s not good, bottom 3 midfielder we go backwards before we move forward again

How many times this year have we kicked 10 goals or less in a game it’s a horrible brand of football that is no fun to watch and can’t be much better to play

From my standpoint it hurts even more than last year if that is even possible. Spend all year in the 8 until the last week or two.

When you look at our fixture we've had it pretty good but still look to have shot ourselves in the foot.

If we have to go backwards then I'd rather do it quickly. Can't continue to half-ass it and try for in the middle. Do it now before Tassie gets in. Because the draft will be more compromised than it is now.

Look to the draft. Unlikely to get many players trade wise that will improve our list.
TDK - not coming
Whitfield - looks like staying
Haynes - is a potential high draft pick worth having an injury prone player take up a spot?
McKay - probably Bombers.

We'll be lucky to get a 2nd rounder for Clark if he still wants out.
Can't see Gresham's compo pick being any better than end of 1st round and that's being generous.

I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to trade out Membrey. But we'd be selling low so again is a 2nd round pick better than the output we could get with Membrey?

And what would we actually get for Howard? And is it a matter of robbing Peter to pay Paul. I have no idea. I just hope those in charge do. The correct choices over the last 18 months is vital.

I agree. I think the club just decided to dogmatically trade regardless (because of fear of bottoming out) and that led to.... Hill. And Hanners. And Jones.

I think we need one A grade mid around ~25 years old (i.e. will be old enough to have great output once Windy, Pou and Owens really hit their stride in ~3 years) and can sell them on the youth we have coming through. To me that's Parish with what's on the market and he'll only cost us money.

I hope we go to the draft with the rest of our picks.

So we overprice opposition players & we undervalue our own luckily we’re not doing the trades.

Clark definitely a 2nd rounder & Greshs value is only devalued by Saint supporters no one else he is a player that 90% of clubs would value.

Apart from what those 2 players have done it’s the unknown potential that other clubs feel they can unlock.

His value is based on his output. And he hasn't had a lot of consistency. We aren't talking about a Lynch. We are more talking of a Crouch scenario. Would I love a 1st rounder for him? Hell yes. But I don't see it happening.

It’s also based on wages he is in our top 10 paid players & what his new club pays also if it is less then our offer we match & trade still netting a high 2nd rounder

Yes but there have been plenty saying 1st rounder from Gresh.

I don't see it.

I see us getting the 2nd rounder. And if that happens there will be a number of disappointed people.

End of 2nd round is looking likely.

I can't see any club offering Gresh more than a couple of years and I can't see any club offering him much more than $500k a year.

If that’s all the marketplace offers him then he will re-sign with us.

The media have mentioned several times that Hawks are quite keen. And they have a ton of salary cap space.

Also wouldnt effect there draft hand to offer he some coin enough to trigger a good compo for us.

Sam Mitchell will turn Gresh into top 5 most lethal small forward

He probably suits how they play better. He looks lost under Lyon. He has had all the instinct taken away in Lyon's dour grind.

I expect him to be a gun at another club but if he's a liability at St Kilda then we might as well chase a player that we can se.

If you could turn him into Flanders or Henry you'd be at least getting something usable.

I dare say Flanders will attract better looking clubs than ours by seasons end, hopefully we pull this off. Get Dow too, get anyone!
Getting “anyone” is what’s got us into trouble in the past.

Need to be a little more discerning than that.
