Maybe instead of starting with the easy to grab GOPs, we should aim high and look at which clubs have have got promising kids in the positions we need being kept out of the seniors by more established players, then make plays for the kids.

If they don't want to come, make a play for the older players keeping them out. Clubs might be willing to get to the next chapter a year or two earlier.
Finn McCrae is one to consider.

Killing in the filth's VFL team but can't get a look in.

OOC too I believe

Another conundrum for next year.
If we recruit say pick 10 you would expect him to play early Hotton needs a run. Add Coff and McKenzie back to full playing ability as IMHO best 22. If we get Flanders as well that is 5 players from yesterday's side that you have to replace.

Gresh Flanders
Clarke pick 10
Byrnes McKenzie
Stocker Coff
?? Hotton

Then there's Doogs Billings Ross and Membrey to probably slot back in. What about Hayes?

Cordy Doogs
Sharman Membrey
Billings ??
Ross ??
Hayes ??

Things start to get a bit sticky as I find it difficult to see like for like replacements in the team.

Starters for next year player nos 5 7 9 10 12 16 17 19 22 25 26 29 32 35 44 that's 15.
8??

There are 8 names above to make 23.

Can see why we are looking at moving a few old and bold on.

Sadly I think you can remove Dmac from the equation.

As others have stated, if we can add Flanders and Henry, then have Coff & Hayesy fit & firing then that will transform the team.

If that means a few regulars from the past become depth then that's absolutely ideal.

It's even better if Hotton, Heath & Van Es/Adams can all push to senior debuts.

Max hasn't had a good year but there's a good reason for that.

Every team in the comp would give up two firsts for him. The only way you'd do it this year would be if pick one were involved.
And pick 2 and pick 3… in my mind Max King remains the player with the highest ceiling in the AFL.

The question is whether or not we can get him there, which I’m sure many have their doubts about, but we’re taking the piss if we don’t try.

I have hopes for DMac as he is probably my favourite player along with Hunter Clarke.
Sad that we can't get Hunter to have DMacs drive to be the best he can.

Like Hill as a person and as a team mate just hate the way he plays. Crouch does not get enough love on this board will be almost winning B and F if Sincs doesn't get a wriggle on.

With the news that Barrass seems to be off the table, I wonder if Howard to Sydney would make sense. They've currently got pick 22 which seems about right, if maybe slight unders.

It's all about the ruck

Probably the most important position on the field.

So happy we locked in Marshall, when Essendon came sniffing
This is a concern.

Talent shortage?

Some AFL recruiters and list bosses think as few as 50 players could be drafted this year as list sizes and a shallower group of prospects combine to put the squeeze on.

A total of 59 players were selected in last year’s national draft, and 65 the year before that, so it would be a significant drop if that scenario played out.

There are even clubs that think this year’s draft class is barely 40 players deep once academy and father-son prospects are removed from the equation, although others expect about 60 new footballers to enter the system.

Good news for guys like Jones, Bytel & McKenzie who may be borderline.

Also, considering he's under contract and the alternatives are disappearing, has to be a top 20 pick at least for Dougal Howard. Otherwise just keep him.

We wouldn’t trade him unless we got their first round pick. Would be stupid to take anything under

Max King has 128 goals from 68 games at 23 years of age… let’s not get rid of one of the very few proven goal scorers we already have and compound poor list decisions even more. We are wanting young talent, not to get rid of it.

He's been pretty accurate this year. He's obviously worked on his routine.

Mitch Cleary says keep an eye on st kilda in the race for sam Flanders, but also says don’t rule him out staying at the suns.
Nothing like hedging your bets

I'd be wanting massive overs for Howard if we trade him.

There is very few ways trading a 200cm full back doesn't come back to haunt us. That's how it works with at St Kilda. We need to be getting something ridiculous back to warrant it.

Gresh has got to go, irrespective of the Pick available.

He is beyond selfish, doesn't acknowledge or learn his physical limitations and wastes opportunity after opportunity.

We will be far better without him momentum killing us with loopy kicks, poor set shots or burning teammates.

Must go

Don't rule out DMac. Has all the tools to be a player that Ross will love

They must learn that day one of journalism school.

Funnily enough I reckon that’s the only day most attend…
Still… let’s hope he’s correct in the first instance. 🤞🏼🤞🏼

I wouldn't even care if he becomes a solid contributor at another club, good for him, just needs to go.

one young mid and a first... someone like bailey smith and a top 5 pick. Though apparently bailey smith sucks now so idk. But that kind of a deal I think is fair and would actually get us closer to a flag.

Not saying king aint good, he is, but we need mids, we've needed mids for 13 years
