Boston Everitt has been named in the Queensland under 17 side to play on Grand Final day. I see that he hasnt grown much listed as 185cms so I doubt he ends up anywhere near his dads height. I guess that doesnt matter if he can play?

You have to wonder why we didnt go after George Hewett as a free agent 2 years ago? Perhaps we did but I didnt read our club showing interest in him. Carlton had ridiculous midfield depth a bulging cap, yet still brought him in which has proven to be a very good move. Plus look at how Acres is playing like a 800k wingman and Carlton got him for chips. Just more examples of our clubs disatrous midfield list management.

Acres really hurts because we threw him away. If you are trading out and getting something back there is a bit less pain involved but for all the guys like Hickey, Bruce, Acres that are still playing we got absolutely nothing back for all of our investment. Acres was a FRDP and we traded a lot to get Hickey. Bruce the only one that didn't cost more than we sold him for but still got FA back. Then chased a lot of ordinary players like Howard and Hill with lots of capital. Makes me want to spew.

Geelong are a unique beast.

They get the Easter Monday game vs the Hawks but they also enjoy the best home ground advantage in the sport.

You're right in that there will always be players who are looking to max their $$, and we will be in with a shout for those players, but for the majority of players the Saints would be well down the list of Vic clubs to play for.

Clubs offer those intangibles in place of cash because it helps them build stronger teams and keep competitive longer.

If all 10 clubs had the same contract on the table we would be close to last picked because we don't have those intangibles to offer.

I guess we're both entitled to our own opinions, but I would say if you were right, then all the very best talent available as a FA or trade target would just go to Collingwood and the rest of the Melbourne teams should just shut up shop.

Geelong are unique because they've deliberately targeted players that grew up within Geelong or the surf coast region, and I agree intangibles are important, I just don't agree that the intangibles you mentioned are the ones that are important. Geelong offer a lifestyle down there, which I love too, I've got a place in Ocean Grove and I get it, it's a great place to be and the local paper might as well be the Geelong Football Club newsletter because that seems to be it's main focus.

Our Coterie is made up of Finance and Real Estate guys and I'd like to understand how much the club leverages that when it looks at recruiting, in the past when I was a corporate member, the club didn't do a lot, they did some like Carlise went to work in a construction business owned by one of the heavily involved members, but I'd still hazard a guess to say there could be more work to be done in that space.

For a player to take unders and the club still be super attractive I think you need a combination of how close to a premiership is the club (what's the potential of the list), the coaching panel, desirable lifestyle and opportunities outside of football (immediate and future) and even if the club wanted to offer overs, I still think that a number of those boxes need to be checked.

I'm keen to see what happens at the end of this season because I think from a football department point of view, we're in a better position and more desirable than we have been for a number of years and if we can make finals, then that's another tick.

We aren't getting that.

For Howards name to be out there makes me think we have been approached by North Melbourne. It sounds like there is something going on behind the scenes? I gather they are still interested in Clark and should be chasing Howard (if available) as it looks like they will lose McKay FA. I wonder if we have been offered or are chasing a deal for Howard & or Clark?

That said I wonder where Howard's replacement comes from? Adam Tomlinson's name has been mentioned but can he play on the monster forwards. Also there was an Adelaide tall defender mentioned, will make for an interesting trade period.

Howard and Clark for NOrth's McKay compo pick

What deal could North possibly offer?

They certainly won’t part with their their early 1st RDP, so maybe their later 1st pick which is 15/16?

Beyond that their next pick is in the late 30s.

If we were able to get that teens pick then we could bundle it up with our second rounder (for a total of about 1700 points) and maybe the compo pick for Gresham for Gold Coast’s pick 5 plus change?

Purely hypothetical of course.

Swings and roundabouts.
Norff will offer a kings ransom for that No1 pick and WC have what will satisfy us for Clark and Doogs.

If that were to happen, I'd want to come away with Flanders, Ben King and GC's FRDP.
However things have changed with GC slipping down to pick 4 and they're unlikely to want to shift it now.

Hill was ridiculously expensive both in terms of draft picks and salary. Eye watering. At least Hannerbury, a total bust, only cost pick 39 odd.

For 900k you’re getting similar output to what Mason Wood is producing in the wing. The latter would not be on big dollars. I guess one positive is Hill isn’t injury prone, but you should be expecting top 5 best and fairest finishes.

Watching Acres kick on does hurt. Was really starting to show it in the second half of last year too.

Heard a rumour Sydney might be interested in doogs. Makes sense. Missed barrass and McKay

Not sure why we are losing him without an upgrade. He's not great but he's not terrible either. They can have him for Erol Gulden though.

Sticking to the Port/Howard theme, North could trade Port's first pick (part of the JHF deal).

They aren't giving up a first for Howard
