Why the hell would Steele want to go to North? He's contracted so he'd have to want to go somewhere. Plus they wouldn't give pick 2 and 3 for him anyway.

I’d trade Steele for the right price. A bundle of high quality draft picks, or a 22 or younger star mid, or a mix of the two.

Honestly, I don’t rate Steele as much as I used to. He’s a gun don’t get me wrong, but I’m much more invested in our players King’s age and younger now.

He hasn’t won my heart as captain of the club either, idk, suppose I’m indifferent, and I think we’ll drop off next year anyway. For the right price, it might be a necessary evil to have the resources to build a list around our young core.

Can’t see it happening, but there have been rumblings for a while now.

Steele a great accumulator but has lost a yard in his run. He’s also on the wrong side of the age in the group moving forward. Does make sense for the right price.

IMO, if we do move on Steele it has to be for Reid. He has all the traits of a kid we need and in the right age bracket.

It’s could be a possibility we are moving on Steele, just a few things I’m picking up from Ross…. Rome wasn’t built I a day!
Tells me we are throwing the kitchen sink in this draft period. There is also not a lot of hype around next years draft so I’m tipping futures to be thrown in. I get a feeling that Ross will go hard, develop 2024 and have a fair tilt 2025 onwards.

The "frees up" argument is usually pretty bad. We saw it with Sinclair on Saturday. He was OK in the midfield but he's not an AA level midfielder, while he is an AA level half-back. So what's the point of "freeing him up" from a position where he's elite to move him to somewhere he isn't?

Same with Marshall. He got in the AA squad as first ruck, but playing as second ruck/tall forward he was nowhere near it. So why would we "free him up" from the position where he was approaching A grade?

Our worst patch of footy for the year were the weeks Sinclair had to play midfield, he has far more impact on games from half back.

Great takes. We finally have players who are possibly the top 1 or 2 players in that position and we want to replace them there with some no names

We should look to Cogs at GWS for an example. Was their best player almost exactly like Steele got the captaincy but struggled. His game dropped off too and the leadership was nothing special. Cogs even got dropped I remember how depressed he looked in the AFL doco. Lost the captaincy and now he's a gun again. Team is flying.

I can't put my finger on it, but Ross and Steele don't seem to mesh. It goes back to preseason and the leaked audio from the coach's box.

Ross has always had a super strong relationship with past captains, and it's just not there with Steele at all.

I got laughed out the door in May for suggesting Steele should be shopped around.

To me he doesn’t exude leadership material. Maybe those who have gone before him have set my expectations high, but he doesn’t do it for me. I do accept he has been great during a period where we didn’t have many leaders around, but I think it’s different now.

For mine, if he netted us 2 quality picks, you take it.
