Straight swop for Ben kingHoward to Gold Coast rumour on SEN just now.
Essendon may be a big club, but a shite one.Bulldogs, Lions sniff around luckless Saint Nick Coffield
A second club – the Western Bulldogs – has expressed interest in hard-luck St Kilda defender Nick Coffield, one of a number of Saints whose future is in limbo.
Brisbane also inquired about the out-of-contract Coffield, the No.8 pick in the 2017 draft who has not played at AFL level since 2021 due to an ACL setback and then persistent calf issues.
The 23-year-old made it back for four VFL games late in the season, averaging 23 disposals, six marks and eight rebound 50s, and is one of a number of out-of-contract players on the Bulldogs’ radar, including promising Lion Kai Lohmann.
Rivals believe fellow Saints Hunter Clark and the contracted Jack Billings (2025) and Dougal Howard (2024) are also attainable. St Kilda are keen to invest in the draft, but none of this group is likely to score them a high-end selection.
Billings – who coach Ross Lyon views as a forward only – has mild interest elsewhere and would ideally like to move on after playing only three senior games this season, but key defender Howard seems more likely to stay.
Zak Jones, Jimmy Webster, Daniel McKenzie, Liam Stocker and Ryan Byrnes are also without a deal beyond this year. Restricted free agent Jade Gresham’s future is also uncertain, particularly given it is highly unlikely the Saints would receive first-round compensation for him.
Gresham has been linked to Essendon for some time, and The Age confirmed on Monday they are in the hunt for the talented forward. He is keen to play for a big club, according to sources familiar with his intentions.

I actually wonder what it would take to get that. Maybe Howard and next years first?Pick 4 come on down!
3rd round pick & Elijah Hollands in return.Howard to Gold Coast rumour on SEN just now.
We can’tIf we could off load Seb Ross would be good= 50% DE in the final, been wanting too, for awhile.

According to Twomey?, Gresham is already on a large contract. Unless Essendon cough up, over that price,
I think we match & keep him.
And Coffield at 23y.o, will bite us on the ass, if we let him go. He will replace Webster in the short-term.
We aren't getting pick 4. 100% it's Melbourne's if they want it.If we get pick 4?
I'd be picking Connor O'Sullivan, more than promising KPP, & very much needed if we offload Howard, alongside Adams.
Although McKercher seems too good a midfielder to pass on there.
3rd round pick & Elijah Hollands in return.
Gold Coast happy to deal with Saints (good prior relations) in relation to pick 4 if we satisfy their requirement for points - should be manageable with outgoing players (including possibly Coffield).
West Coast will draft Harley Reid but if North don’t draft their WA boy The saints will at pick 4 and then will trade him for Reid along with next years first + other pick swaps in their favour. As west coast require multiple picks for their rebuild.
Saints get Harley Reid.
they already have pick 5We aren't getting pick 4. 100% it's Melbourne's if they want it.
And. With Melbourne where they are now. Do you think they would ratherthey already have pick 5
Howard & later picks then for Hollands, as he was pick 7 in his draft year. Should play better back in Vic.They want their later picks for points. Better to do a SOS special and load up on players.
Unfortunately this isn't the NBA or NFL so draft night trading of players can't take place.Gold Coast happy to deal with Saints (good prior relations) in relation to pick 4 if we satisfy their requirement for points - should be manageable with outgoing players (including possibly Coffield).

Agree, Coffield was pick 8 & only 23 y.o, & missed two seasons through injury. Mad not to keep him, & especially as he has proved to be our best interceptor at times. If they want his type?, give em Paton. So Gresham, Clark, Billings, Coffield, Howard all on the table.
I would rather keep Coffield out of that group.
That's what, three second round picks for the remainder? At best.
Who needs a bunch of second rounders to secure their academy kids? Is that still how it works?
