You would have to think we are looking more and more like a destination club now.

Should be some very interesting trades about to happen.
Indeed. Club has said they want to hit the draft albeit pretty compromised and the players were linked with

Just a hunch.
GC with a new coach it'll be the Steven May situation all over again, plus they have a bevy of talls coming in this draft and not enough points to secure them.
Flanders will only get them a 2nd despite recent form.

I think Hardwick's arriving will have the opposite affect - players will be harder to get out of GCS. The only thing in our favour is the quality their academy kids this year 4 of which could play next year. They have a pretty good collection of draft points already, but I guess it depends on what they want to do in next years draft etc. They obviously have some huge depth also as there reserves VFL has been dominant all year.

But when you look what they will get in at the draft - a genuine beast of a full forward (Walter), a talented aerobic marking ruckman (Read), a small forward midfielder (Rogers) and a running quality back flanker (Graham), then another small forward/midfielder (Will Rowland). So thats 5 they will need to make room for if they intend to take them all which they should. Ive said it before but Walter is a more agile version of Jonathon Brown, he will be a super star.

The most recent media news is Flanders is likely to stay, so I guess it will depend on much work we (Gubby) did earlier in the year on Flanders and what we are prepared to pay him over above the GCS. Unlike Flanders, Ben King is contracted next year and I doubt they would like to lose him now. Perhaps thats where the Membrey trade talks come into play I dont know?

Mabor Chol might be a player who is looking for more opportunity but if I remember correctly he has family up there and requested a trade to Gold Coast.

I'm all aboard the Zaine Train. He suits our defence so well, and I feel that he's very well liked by his team mates. Not a world beater by any means, but solid and a good kick. Howard, on the other hand, seems the objectively better player, but less suited to the way we play
With this is mind, I reckon a 3 way trade with us, GC and Sydney could work quite well if Sydney are looking for a Key Defender and miss out on McKay. Something like:

Stk Out:

Howard, Pick 13, Pick 32

Stk In:

Pick 4

Sydney Out:

Pick 22, Pick 41

Sydney In:

Howard

GC Out:

Pick 4 (2034 points)

GC In:

Pick 13, Pick 22, Pick 32, Pick 41 (3053 Points, or Pick 18 surplus)

GC could then either on trade pick 13, or even take our future first instead. We could use pick 4 to draft a high quality pure mid to go with the young hybrids we already have.
I think we're handing over too much here.
Ideally we aim to end up with 2x First Round picks for Toce to spin some magic.

I think parish might be what we need... not a fan of tbe thumb but geeze it might be a case of best available for what we need

Hmm na, too similar to crouch IMO, great accumulator but disposal isn’t that great at times. Watching the bombers this year, his kicking is some of the worst I’ve ever seen.

If you think our foot skills throughout the year were bad his will make you pull all of your hair out. Might make RTB go bald too [emoji43]‍[emoji94]

Speaking of amazing player named Zaine, Zaine Duursma is pretty much what we need if he becomes a mid, damaging goal kicking mid/fwd. Could be a solid replacement for gresh.

I’m no expert but I’ve watched a few of the metro, country, allies etc games and Duursma will be the best player from the draft, 10x better than his brother. Kids a freak.

We would need to get something else back. We are trading a mid first, a mid second and a KPD for pick 4.

Don’t discount the allure of Ross Lyon, even if Saints missed the finals. Players would give heavy consideration to who is coaching the side, along with money and chances of success.

Ratten never had this going for him. On the flip side, GCS could end up a destination club with Hardwick, looming finals success and location.

Geelong have the location and coach, but it looks like father time is quickly approaching that list.

Steele has been butchering it all year and Parish is a level above him in terms of winning the ball, so I’m sure if we can put up with Steele we can put up with a better version of him as well. We’ve got some good young kids but I don’t think we have time to wait for them to fully develop with Steele, Crouch, Sinclair, Wilkie etc not exactly young. We need to go after some established mids asap.

Would want more than just pick 4 for Howard, better to keep pick 13, and use Howard and another pick to upgrade to 1st round

That’s why we should consider getting Matt Crouch and then young kids, give them enough time and support to develop..

We should get Matt Crouch. Still got 4 years of good footy left. Free agent, will cost a packet of chips. Solid Ross replacement.
Not the same type of player as Ross , Ross gives us plenty of run and carry when fit

The reduction in my game anxiety from not having him there is profound and Cordy is orders on magnitude a smarter footballer.
I don't think I've said one bad word about Doogs ever, but l hope to never see him in StKilda colours again.
Only comparable game anxiety is when Gresham has ball in hand and is looking to kick it

Same, I've come around to thinking that he'd be a good pickup or us. On the proviso we continue to develop and give midfield time to our talented kids - Owens, Windy and Pou

I'm heading back towards Crouch as an extractor for free and low wage and he'll be ready to retire just as our current crop are ready.

I don't think people realise how clean Steele is for an inside mid, he's above average. If you find him frustrating you'll hate Parish.

Steele was very good last night, he's an absolute workhorse and the work those older guys are doing is helping the kids run free. He's playing selfless footy which got the Cats a premiership last year. Hardly any of their mids had huge stat numbers but they worked hard for each other and freed each other up.

It looked like Lyon had asked the seniors to be a bit more impactful last night and most stepped up. The kids were much less influence than usual but most old guys had a major impact.

That's way too much for us to give up. Doug can get us a first on his own. No need to give up another first with him.
