So you'd do the trade again?
I'd made some amendments to the contract, but yes I would trade for Hannebery again.

Given where we were at the time as a club and the difficulties we had attracting anyone with a profile, the risk of Hanners was worth it. It's unfortunate he didn't play many games but he was bloody good when he got out there. We didn't lose much by doing it so I don't know what there is to be pissed about years later.

Great to see Chris Scott and RTB go on the attack about the handouts given to the Roos

Chris Scott and Ross Lyon nailed it.

North are building one of the most formidable midfields in decades with many top 5 picks over the last 4 years. All because they decided to blow their list up and become very bad.

They should not get any more assistance. Period.

Scott and Lyon didn’t hold back. Laura Kane should take note. The clubs are growing increasingly resentful with all forms of targeted assistance. These include the Northern academies.

God you spout some garbage sometimes, we still have 4 of the five players on the list, Hill was our best in the finals and easily his best year under Ross and Wood played just as well as Acres.
Hannebery was 6 years ago [emoji849].

You really come out with crap sometimes. Set us back years [emoji849]. FMD

It literally did. We are starting another refresh and turned away from that strategy and sacked everyone involved apart from the guy who designed it all who we promoted to one of the most powerful roles in the club. Oh and the other one we made one of our list managers.

Dildo has always used the media to try and pressure other clubs into coughing up more in picks ect

He normally makes it somewhat believable, not this time though.

Why the **** would we basically trade pick 13 and gresh for a busted up Shiel? [emoji23]

How many 30+ year olds get traded for a first rounder?

Gary Ablett jnr wasn't even worth that when going back to Geelong.

Come on man. Don't be ridiculous. Everyone new he was cooked on and off the field, with hindsight no-one is taking him. If we'd been disciplined we would have created our own momentum and attracted good payers into our vortex. We tried to cheat the rebuild model and got found out over and over. We are still paying for it now. Irresponsible and ill disciplined during that whole period. Instead of getting a new recruiter we decided to try to bypass the draft in the middle of a rebuild.

Because hindsight is always used in every trade when done

Would you trade a second for a multiple time AA premiership player? Especially when the club had no leaders and no real midfield

Have a peruse through the archives if you think any of this is hindsight, except for joff, you can't look at his cause he hides his posting history 🫣

Isaac Smith would have been a good stop-gap, we could have offered him 1.5 million / year and hit also the draft.

It was a stuff up because it was the wrong time to top up and sold our future to do it. Finals without being consistently competitive and closer to a flag is a waste of time and actually sets you back losing access to good picks. We are still rebuilding and he's unlikely to be in our next flag side. Making yourself artificially competitive is the worst possible outcome.

Comparing ourselves to some of the other s**t deals doesn't make ours less aggravating.

How is one draft trading our future? We didn't give up multiple years to get him like essendon did for Shiel. You make it sound like we gave up 3 full drafts for him.

The last few years our trade and draft periods have been exceptional for what hand we had.
People claimed we couldn't not get a good free agent - well we beat the Cats in getting Crouch and some of the kids we have brought into the team like Owens , Nas , Windhager , Camaniti , Phillipou are already out performing more senior players in the team.
On top of this we have some very good kids that I'm sure will be pushing for selection next year in Keeler , Hotton , Heath and Van Els.

We are also attracting players like Henry who was a pick 9 in his draft year and was chased hard by Hawthorn and Demons so something has brought drawing power to the club.

We can all dwell in the past , but it's time to look forward because we are heading in the right direction.

That's how you earn respect. By doing good solid work at the draft and nailing your picks. Expecting everyone else to fawn over the past stupidity and pass it off as some kind of positive just perpetuates the arguments. People get shitty with us for being negative and living in the past but the constant rewriting of history and selling it all as a stroke of brilliance triggers some of us.

Buy how can anyone earn respect if you keep moaning about the past???

What perpetuates debates is people not looking to the future, but bringing up misdeeds of people who either aren't at the club or who are in completely different roles....

Bringing up this old trade crap is like talking about a big quady you would of had if it was not for that damn protest in the first leg.

We made finals with the youngest team in the 8 , have some talent that could be outright superstars and we are moving on players to improve the list - and anyone who thinks we would give a first round draft pick for Shiel are on crack.

How we are still paying for that trade now?

Just because a trade didn't work out perfectly, doesn't mean it needs to be dramatised as something that has ruined us.

We didn't even trade a second.
We upgraded our late second for Sydney's pick 28. Then gave our future second.
So that adds up to something less than a second rounder.

Then we stupidly traded pick 28 ( James Jordan anyone )? and got too later picks.
So we could get Nick Hind, who did everything that could have been expected from a player like that , then we traded him away.
We also got Parker, who did everything that could have been expected from a player like that , and we delisted him.

In terms of the playing list, Lyon was asked whether he’d spoken to reported St Kilda trade target Dylan Shiel.

While Lyon didn’t deny that the club was interested in the Don, he refused to admit any talks had happened and pondered where the noise of a potential move had come from.

“Well as a club, we don't sort of conduct our business in the media,” Lyon said.

“There's a lot of noise around it.

“I know he missed the last 10 rounds with quite a few injuries.

“It (the noise) certainly wasn't generated from us.

“So I'm not sure where that's all come from, to be honest.”

Shiel played 12 games in 2023 but was the activated substitute on two occasions. He missed much of the back end of the season with a foot injury.

We gave up most of 2019 and 2020s draft picks to pay for them. It looks like we'll get Byrnes as the only drafted player left from 2 drafts. One where we started at pick 6.

It's taking away the future because while we should have been drafting we had a minor jump and sat us out of the best picks in the next drafts as well. It's pushed us into purgatory instead of taking our medicine when we should have.

We sold off picks for years on older C graders and even chased older guys in the state leagues. Parker, Young, Hind. We picked up guys like Rubbertits, Carlisle, Weller, Austin, Freeman, Hanners, Hill, Howard, Butler, Hickey, Longer, Snags, Campbell, Savage, Brown, Rowe, McKernan, Marsh etc.

Membrey, Steele, Wood, Bruce, Marshall and Wilkie have all worked out well.

The last couple of drafts have been done in a disciplined way and not tried to cheat gravity and look much more like how normal clubs operate. Paying top dollar and trade capital for your middling talent is a great way to stay shit longer. Serong over Hill and Howard looks like a shame in hindsight.

Have been off here for just around 28 hours for 16+ pages.
Has any thing interesting/exciting happened in that time? Did we get Heeney yet?

Honestly can’t be bothered reading back that far.

I guess the plan from the essington PR dildo machine is to push absolutely absurd ideas like pick 13 moving with the hope that they can still then get something ridiculous pushed through like even our second rounder for Shiel.

I'm not helping their cap and ability to add talent without a significant gain to us, I would want to upgrade our first pick AND trigger band one otherwise they can GAGF, we take band 2 or keep a very good player.

How can you earn respect? I just told you how. It's like an AFL official who roots around behind the wife's back and gets caught. Stop whinging about how unfair it is that people see you as a sleaze and do the work to make people forget your past misdeeds.

zheeney is a done deal, hanners wanting to come out of retirement and asking to be captain/coach of tassie… suitable recompense is hard to gauge and causing some distress at this time.

Ian Stewart spotted in a gorgeous dress was spotted holding up the 7/11 on keilor rd Niddrie, no dildos were harmed. A long shot to be the inaugural tassie president at this stage.

Words.
Good for them, but ultimately will change nothing.
And middle of the road teams like us get no rewards at all for not tanking.
Mickey mouse competition, this.

How we are still paying for that trade now?

If you trade out of multiple drafts for mature talent that goes nowhere it all adds up. That second round pick could have netted us a young player that was still listed. We kept trading out picks for players that didn't work out.

Players taken after the pick we gave in 2019 for him were Harry Jones, Comben, Trent Rivers, Keidan Coleman who just won Brisbane a prelim, Nick Bryan, Chad Warner and a heap more that look like talents.

Being ill-disciplined has cost us years.

Chad Warner would have been a great pick. Same with Coleman but then maybe we dont draft Nasiah who is looked just as good.

But it's really not worth the time or energy to be bothered about missing out on the majority of the players you listed.
