The AFL have said that the compo pick can’t be traded back to Essendon according to the Ralph article.

So that means the only picks that can go Essendons way are 12,32,51

The deal makes even less sense if we start giving Essendon a pick infront of us!
Can you imagine? Ross Lyon has been saying all year
1. We want to hit the draft
2. We want more frdp's

He then signs off on us giving away one of those frds on a 31 y.o injured, sleeps with the lights on disappointing midfielder.

Sounds legit :D:D:D

To be fair to the supporters, that is what they said about Hannebery, Jones and every other old bloke we have thrown good money at for little return.

Come on Ross, please don't go down that well beaten path again.
Jones was 22

Nah we made finals. We aren’t interested in kids according to those Essendon nuffies 😂

Sheil is the piece of the puzzle that will propel us to premiership favoritism - now watch this get quoted on the Injectors board, without this bit of course :D:D

I have decided that since we can't trade the compo [pick back to Essendon, that 31 is too much for Sheil, 51 sounds about right, and they can pay half his salary.

If you are worried.

Has SOS made a trade where he sent a top 15 pick to a club for a 31 year old injury prone player who’s on the decline before?

It isn’t in his M.O

He does however have a history of sending out later picks to see if he can find value in others junk.

Yes I am worried about any deal that involves Essendon, watching Carlilse play his best football at Essendon is another trigger for me.

SOS mighten have done it but St Kilda as a club has done it many times. We are constantly after quick fixes.

We were told we were going back to the draft to develop our own talent, now we are not. Sounds like a contradiction to me. Get game time into the kids, don't bring in outside players who are past their best. The stats all indicate he is NOT the player he once was.

How are we not?

Why are you freaking out over nothing.

The Ralph article last night literally says we cant trade this pick back to essendon and a LATER pick would be used on Shiel

Just kids doesn’t work no matter how talented. If Shiel comes as a throw away and can get his body right then he’s a great fit for a couple of years Imo.

All of SoS’s deals and picks at Carlton.

Not a single deal that resembles a top 15 pick for a 30+ year old on the decline

But we traded for Jack Frost, and Tom Lee like two centuries ago, so I am concerned

Plain and simple ... don't like Essendon and I think Shiel won't be a benefit to our club as a whole. He might be a nice sugar hit till he gets injured again. Then he will take up club resources and focus.
And we have next to no midfielders on our list outside on what played in the elimination final.

1 or 2 years and it’s a great deal - as long as we keep that first round pick

The draft is still the priority, that’s what the Shiel deal is about and you’d have thought the club has identified targets in the draft

Apart from self loathing and self flagellation, I really don't understand why anybody is focusing on Sheil, he is the steak knives to us getting another frdp and we will use a much later pick or a better one with them paying some of his salary.

The gnashing of teeth over something so obvious is either quite funny or a little bit disturbing, not really sure which.

Just on Carlisle.

It's probably not a popular opinion but Jake played some really good footy for us. The problem was we were sh*t.

I remember games where Jake was one of the only things holding us together.

It must have been frustrating as hell to have so many spuds around him that couldn't hit the side of a barn

We have met with Shiel.

Ross knows directly from him what injuries he had etc.

I’m 90-95% certain he ends up a saint
Doesn’t every player coming in have a medical anyway?

People should just chill out. If we get Shiel it should be part of a good deal. I’d be absolutely staggered if we’re chasing Shiel just for his sake.

Clubs don't give away great players FACT.

Essendon finished well below us, they don't have a gun midfield. He is not a gun player, he is not a match winner nor does he have great disposal. He's also getting old.

If they draft him I will accept their decision like I always have to.

Yep, not on your life.

Forget the Shiel Deal, we need to SAVE THE MULLET.

It is still there, but goes next week.

Do we risk a Samson like effect and crash and burn in 2024, or do we run a Counter Campaign to SAVE THE THE MULLET AND OUR 2024 SEASON. Only need $15,000 to buy the mullet to save it. ;)

Shiel the player is irrelevant in the deal. It's about cap space and his (probably) back ended 6 year deal at Essendon.

What are Essendon willing to pay us to take him? AFL won't allow us to trade Shiel and a high pick for a late pick, so the Gresh compo comes into play. The only other alternative is we trade out a younger player with some percieved value.
