Harry was coming back from ACL too right, and we had Adams go down long term. Not a very re-assuring option to take in terms of replacing one injured player with a recovering one.
Shoulder issue for Harry I believe.

I think the biggest issue for the start of the season is that Adams was out long term, Gardiner battling to get back from shoulder and ankle issues and Lester was coming off a decent Hammy.

So for me, it is completely understandable that we went with Joyce who has AFL experience over a Rookie with no AFL experience at all.

Especially knowing that who ever we went with would be playing AFL early in the season at least until Lester was match fit after the Hammy, which is what happened with Joyce who was serviceable when he played.

We may on the outside think that Harry would be a good pick up, but was he AFL ready at the start of the year? Probably not then, but now he looks more ready.

For his sake, I hope he does get picked up even if not by us.

What did we allegedly promise Dev?

No idea what happens at the end of the season as to whether we have first dibs on him or not.
We do not unless he gets through the National Draft.

He’s ex Gold Coast academy and a mature age prospect.

Are you thinking we would get priority access in the rookie draft as a Queensland zone selection?
Yes.

Was thinking about it today, but can anything be read into the club posting such a prominent and in depth article our website yesterday if we didnt think wed be getting him or havent made a committment to him.

IDK, it just seems unusal to me that we would write such a great article about Harry if we werent invested in him or am I just clutching for straws looking for something that just isnt there?

Did seem strange for a good news story about a guy that could be at another club within two weeks but I really don't see any smooth pathway for him onto the list outside a long term injury in the next two weeks which no one wants.

I guess we could've made some kind of commitment to getting him onto the list but he'd have to potentially pass up opportunity for AFL footy for six months and then get to us through the National Draft. I guess he could've worked out something with a club in which they'll delist him after season's end giving him a pathway to the Lions as a DFA.

Don't see why another club would accomodate that though, I wouldn't be using a list spot on anyone that had no intention of staying onboard. Maybe if I was a finals bound team with heavy key position injuries but otherwise no way.

I don't remember hearing anything, or reading it here.

I'm not clued in with any inner circles. If it's not on here, I probably haven't read it.
1% of happening but maybe Gardiner could retire before the MSD (if he feels like he can’t continue given his injury woes) and then we draft Arnold as a result of his decision.

Again should elaborate that it’s very highly unlikely but just putting it out there as an option.

Option, or favourable possibility?.

Honestly, just thinking of the only option out there unless (god forbid) something bad happens to any of our KPD this week, which I will leave BigFooty for a few weeks if that occurs.

Again, I like Gardiner and he plays well for us (when fit), but surely his injury tolls are starting to make the club worried about his long term future.

Was surprised at the length of contract he was offered.

Agreed, the club I reckon thought he was over his injury worries by then and would be have a full preseason to complete in 2023, hence why the club signed up for a lengthy deal to stop him going back home to Victoria.

Like I said previously that at best, he is a very valuable player for us at our club but I reckon with all these injury problems creeping up to him now, he can’t even get through a proper VFL game, let alone AFL by the sounds of things and it’s just a really sad situation for him

He has been valuable, but is he what we need now? The game evolves.

Who is better as our third tall defender if they are both fully fit and in form Ryan Lester or Darcy Gardiner?

I know who you're voting for 3KZ is Football .

It is a shame there could have been a VFL curtain raiser to the AFL at the Gabba this week between the 2 top teams iso of playing the bottom team out at Voss Oval.

Bit of a quirk in the schedule given we only play teams once or not at all in the VFL. The game against the suns later in the year will probably be a curtain raiser at metricon

That is a good question.
They are very different type of players.

I would think the safe 5 are Andrews, Payne, Starcevich, McKenna, Coleman
So, need two more from Gardiner, Rich, Lester & the multi position players. Those being Wilmot, Answerth, Prior, & Ah Chee the main ones

🤔… Lester. Quicker, smarter and better on the deck.

Went for my mid morning constitutional and there were around 20 players training at Yeronga today, all reserves players, only hung around for 5 minutes, it was a very jovial light hearted session.

I agree these SHOULD be the 5. Suspect Rich for now with the MC is the 6th. And a third tall is the 7th.

I would favour Lester as the third tall. Rich v Prior for 7th.

Incidentally Ah Chee might just force his way in to the side somewhere if his form holds up. Looming as too good to not be playing.

For now, Lester has earnt his spot but i think that will change.
Another two games in the VFL for Gardiner and his fitness level should then be close to what's required.
I much prefer Gardiner to Lester as that 3rd tall.
Depending how Rich comes along Lester may be pushing for his spot.

As long as we have a balance of smalls we should be okay. Starcevich, McKenna, Coleman + one other.

Good to see Darcy G has his second game in a row. At the start of the season I thought we were a bit shallow done back b

ut now we have a surfeit of options.

Joyce looked OK. Lester has been good. Gardner has been very good in the past.

Rich was terrific against the Giants and now we seem to be able to do without him.
